I'm 58 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, we are finding it impossible to replace it. We can get by, but cant seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 40years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for

Mary, I still work and am quickly losing my savings because my paycheck and my husband's social security is not enough, especially with $8.00 a gallon for heating oil for where we live (on an island off the coast of Maine). Thankfully we have a woodstove as back up. Food prices are so high and no matter how much I cut back on food I am still spending over budget. Just this week I created a new budget plan for groceries and am hoping to reign in the cost. I do cook and bake from scratch most of the time so that helps. We try hard to not waste food. More tough times ahead, for sure.

After freezing my flour for a few days, I remove it and let it come to room temperature and then I vacuum seal it in my foodsaver bag, but I leave it in the original bag. Not sure why anyone would remove it from the original bag just to put it in another brown bag. Then again. My bags are already 5lbs, not the giant bags. Then those bags go into a bucket

I love the tip of how to store flour to keep it safe! Great tip! When I bring flour into my home I always pop it in the freezer for at least 24 hours or until I need to open a new package. This kills the eggs of the mites that are in all grains and keeps them from hatching and making a mini colony in your flour or grain. Hope this helps one of your viewers. ❤

Wanted to share my canned chicken story. I had never bought canned chicken until 2020 at the start of the pandemic. My mother raised us to keep certain staples on hand but she preferred canned fish like salmon, sardines and herring. So in 2020 I decided to add canned chicken but never used them. Then just about two weeks ago, concerned about the used by date and not wanting to waste them I decided to try my instant pot chicken and rice using the canned chicken. It turned out really good, I was surprised. It has opened up my thinking to try other things. Thank you so much for your videos and the useful information you provide.

I loved Sardines, growing up... I'm very picky now regarding " brands" because of how much things have changed . I still like them, even as a quick lunch ,with a salad, crackers, sardine filets on the side. What a lot of people don't understand is they have a lot of Omega-3s and depending on where they're caught (wild caught). some of them have more Omega-3s than even salmon. I always keep canned chicken on hand, for using in recipes, as Miss Mary mentioned. I use wild caught canned Albacore Tuna, as well. I don't have a way to garden , or I would grow my own spinach, radishes, etc. Thank you for taking us with you, Miss Mary ! 🙂😊💕

About herbs....just plant an herb garden and you will have an unlimited supply. Many are snow hearty and grow like weeds. I also have several gallons of vodka that I use for making extracts. Many of the herbs can also be used in teas and medicinal concoctions. Many herb mixes are very heavy on the salt which can be avoided by making your own.

Stocked on local honey as well, I buy a gallon jar, used to cost $46, now IF they even have the gallon jars they are $54! I love those huge bags of baking soda!!! As for broth: Better than bullion is the way to go if you do not make your own - my kids use it and it was just $2 off on my last visit, yes, I got 5 jars. Avacado oil is cheaper to make than it is to buy. It takes 24 to 26 avacados, to make a gallon + of a avacado oil. Choose the large avacados when they are .78c each at Walmart. Let them nicely ripen, but not super ripe. Thuroughly mash and spread out very thinly. When the paste turns gray, s rape together, stir thoroughly, spread again. Repeat this process until all of the avacado paste has turned very dark gray to black, evenly, throughout. Scoop it all together, then scoop, in batches, into a few layers of cheese cloth. Pull the cloth up around the paste, twist until its tightly wrapped. Then squeaze and continue twisting, over a large bowl or receptacle. The oil will come out, and a lot of it. Keep doing this until you get no more liquid out. Then, filter the liquid, (oil) through clean, layered cheese cloth, until clean. That's it. You have beautiful avacado oil. This does take most of a day, because of the "pulling" process. (Speading mixing respreading until it's very dark.) This is a cold press process.
