Which brand is your favorite under $300? And let me know which brand(s) I’m missing.

Like the Loake brand I've turned my Son on to your Channel. He's now a Freshman at Morehouse. I figure the earlier he learns about style and quality now. He should come into his own by 30 35. Hopefully sooner.

That's great, Ryan! I appreciate the referral. Between 30 to 35 is a good age to start really getting into Classic Menswear. I started around that age myself but didn't really fully grasp the concept until I was about 37 38. So he definitely has time.

Meermin is the best bang for buck value shoes out there. They are comparable to Carmina and the only difference is that Meermin outsource most of their labor to cut cost and they're very honest about such fact. I was anticipating Meermin to appear on your list. The fact that you made it number 1 makes me know that you really know what you're talking about, brother. Respect.

Hey Vladimir my man! A bit retrospect here and I want to let you know I bought 2 pairs of Lof & Tung loafers as you suggested here. Haha, I am super super happy with them and did my very first video on them. Great color, great smooth leather and great finish overall. Thank you again for introducing such a nice brand. I've already told my best friend to get a pair of oxford from Lof and Tung, for his coming work at Budapest Central Bank this fall.

But of course they will not tell me that. I was being naive. I've been to NYC for like 30 times in the past 10 years, visiting friends, taking flights, getting interviewed by some securities firm. Hopefully next time I am there, we can meet if this whole COVID panic is over. Really want to meet with you face to face.

I'd put Carlos Santos on this list. I know they're on your other list, but they should move like 5 spaces on list for their handgrade line and the patina service should be on this list because it's well under $300. The CS chelsea boot for under $300 is the most beautiful boot I've seen. I got an oxford in wine shadow and it's awesome.
@thscful
@thscful 2 года назад
do you find a major diff between the handgrade and non-handgrade line? If so, where is the diff most noticeable? I find their handgrade line colour options are quite limited.
@CJ2345ish
@CJ2345ish 2 года назад
@@thscful This comment is a little dated because the patina program was nearly $260 when I made this comment, but it's like $325 now I think and I do own a pair of shoes from both. The patina program is nice because of how custom it is and what you can really get if you want. However, I do really like the handgrade line more. I think the handgrade line has better leather that creases better and the color fades better. I love my patina program oxfords because they look beautiful and they break in well, but the leather I don't think polishes as well, ages as well, or breaks in as well as the handgrade line. Also, the extra details on a handgrade shoe make up some of the difference. It does have a closed channel sole and nicely finished sole too. I think both are well worth the money, but no question the handgrade is a better shoe imo. I do agree handgrade line does have more limited styles and that does impact what you can get, but the styles are beautiful still. I would recommend patina program if none of the styles are "I need it" in your view

Great video and reasonable list. Spanish brands are amongst the best in the World. I can guarantee. Both: 1. From best price/quality ratio (bang for your buck: Cobbler Union, Crownhill, Tallsem, Lottusse, Meermin, Berwick, Yanko, TLB Mallorca, Carmina, etc.) 2. To the most exclusive and expensive ones (Manolo Blahnik, Magrit, Pura López, Ballerinas, etc.) Plus many highly rated & priced foreign brands (mostly English) do actually order their production in Spain.

As a French I'll obviously recommend you guys to buy from Septième Largeur. But not only because I am French. Throughout the years and my sartorial process, I have bought many shoes, especially from Meermin, Loake and Septième Largeur. And there's one thing for sure : none come close to Septième Largeur when it comes to quality. Yet in terms of price-quality ratio, Meermin is the best to start : cheap and good-quality. After a while though, you might feel you need to take it to the next level, and here comes Septième Largeur... Cheers and btw, it's really cool to hear you man, your Harlem or whatever ghetto accent is genuinely cool to hear (for a French at least haha).

Solid. Most of the presented offerings do not have 3E widths. I went to each page as those shoes looked really nice. Meermin does, however, they have not expanded it beyond 4 shoes and now only two styles are available from them for me. If possible could you do a shoe video for the 10-15% of the shoe lovers who have limited choices due to foot width? I'm a huge fan of closed lacing systems but that is also a challenge to achieve closure without going bespoke. Other than the few offerings from Meermin I have only found Allen Edmonds offering 3E widths across almost all of their shoes. But AE does not make the best looking shoes yet they are in my rotation do limited choices.

Nothing will beat meermin for value : quality +looks and style !! I own 7 pairs from them,and I've friends who own highe end brands like Carmina mistake them for being do the same brand/level. The only one down side is their infamously thick leather which takes very long to break in,and just very occasionally QC that's a little shoddy. I've got seconds with barely any flaws for below 150

Hey Jeremy! I’ve had good luck with all my pairs as well. I have 3, one MTO from their Master line and 2 from the Classic line.

Carmina is not a high-end brand at all. Carmina and Meermin are in the same category. John Lobb, Edward Green, Gaziano & Girling, Stefano Bemer, George Cleverly, Berluti, J. M. Weston, Corthay, Paolo Scafora, Saint Crispin's, Enzo Bonafe, etc are high-end brands. Even Allen Edmonds, which is the flagship for high-end quality shoes for most of Americans, is not considered as a high-end brand at all over here in Europe - and even far from! Therefore, be assured your Meermin shoes and your friends' Carmina shoes are in the same club. Hope this helps!
@jeremyemilio9378
@jeremyemilio9378 4 года назад
@@AA-uf3bl stop putting words into mouth.I didn't say they are.I just said my friends who own Carminas mistook my Meermins for carminas. Also carminas are definitely much better than Meermin. Any worthy shoe enthusiast worth their salt would know that as an absolute fact. Also on a side note,the notation "high end" is all relative. To a single father with 3 kids to feed and mortgages to pay,that's starting his first job in the office,Allen Edmonds might be the most expensive that he can afford and thus high end for him and to him. To Billionaires,even the world's best bespoke makers might feel like spending money at a dollar store to them In the end its all about who's high "end" are you basing your parameters on? A beggar?A minimum wage worker? A skilled carpenter? Your typical white collar worker? Or a CEO worth billions?

Spot on on those recommendation. I live in Europe and I have most of the shoes on most of the brands you've mentioned. I ended up with multiple pairs of Loake and Meermin. Few more brands to add to the list; Barker, Grenson, Cheaney, etc.

@@v_r_ Maybe MyUs.com could do a UK-US delivery or any other site. By the way, I wanted to buy Becket Simonon, Cobbler Union or Thursday but won't send to EU. Or if it would then the taxes are astronomical. With the taxes and all then it's better off getting Carmina instead.

Great video! I'm always on the lookout for new brands to consider. One brand that I have discovered a few months ago is Orban's. They are a french company with only one physical store and a website. Their shoes offer the best bang for your buck in my opinion. $150 USD shipped and goodyear welted is hard to beat. Quality wise they are close to Meermin. Cheers!

Thanks for putting me on to a new brand, I can’t say that I’ve heard that name before. I just checked out their IG and they look legit. Can you compare their sizing to any other known brand(s)?
@biscuitnoir1
@biscuitnoir1 4 года назад
@@v_r_ let's say they run a little smaller than Spier & Mackay. My S&M pair is a 7.5 UK and the Orban's one is a 8 UK. Quality wise Orban's uses leather sourced from French tanneries and suede from Britain. Interestingly the man behind the brand is the same person who created Septieme Largeur. Lastly the pictures on their IG and website don't do them justice. They look way better in person. I suggest googling Orban's reviews. There is a good one on Style Forum.

I’ve had three pairs of Meermin shoes, unfortunately I really don’t like them after 3 years of wear. The leather is so stiff that it feels like each pair could never be broken in. The brogue punches are never perfectly symmetrical or aligned.
@v_r_
@v_r_ 4 года назад
The quality control can definitely use some help. My older Meermin shoes broke in nicely but I understand what you mean. As far as the toe cap not aligning, that can be annoying. But to tell you the truth, I’ve seen brands costing 3 times the costs of Meermin with the same issue sometimes. What other brands are you trying now?
@zschambill
@zschambill 4 года назад
Vladimir Riché I’m sticking to Allen Edmonds now, their 65 last fits my feet the best compared to lasts from other brands I’ve tried or owned. Occasionally I wear Italian shoes (Gucci loafer and a brand called Campanile). While I enjoy the soft leather normally used on Italian shoes, I find the thin soles on them lack support and hence canny really provide me with all day comfort while walking in them. So, AE for price, quality and comfort balance.

Your shoe indications are very solid but, after wearing Carlos Santos, you will feel pressed to don't look back at less quality shoes.
