tornado shows great passion and emotion in it but lucretia has so much arpeggios in it. most guitarists when they play arpeggios in a song dont show emotion but marty tells a story when he does it
The ONLY thing that sux about the solo in Tornado of Souls, is that it ends… Flawless masterpiece. It build so nicely with perfect phrasing and soulful bending, then to an absolutely meaningful barrage of shredful licks. Marty rules!!!
@@baroqueguitarist5673 I think we're talking about Marty solos here. Hangar has like 10 Marty solos...if we're talking Hangar, I like #5 and #6, which is sort of the obvious choice in my opinion.

Marty has his own style... you will immediately know its marty playing... i feel lost...such feel...such technique... best guitarist for me...complete package
When you hear Marty... you can always hear him coming a mile away. his style and melodic choices are so distinct.. they scream "that's Marty" he writes the best melodies. His harmonies with Becker were legendary as well.
Tornado of Souls solo should be broadcast to the outer space and aliens in other galaxies when they hear it will start head banging their oversized heads.
I agree if we are ever invaded by aliens play this solo and their oversized heads will start headbanging and they will break their own necks! Invasion averted hehe

I grew up with Marty in Laurel md.....watched him play literally in a wooden barn with the group deuce..........it was an incredible experience watching him play at 14 years old to 18
I'm really sick of this "most underrated guitarist ever" comments. This comment is on EVERY guitar video I've ever watched. I know it's all personal opinion. I'm not talking about Marty either everyone knows he's amazing. The greats don't care about the opinion polls they just play cos they love it. Music isn't a competition yet so many pitting them against each other. Just enjoy them all. Rant over.
Thomasgipsy Shawn lane was as accomplished as a pianist too. he was simply a prodigal musician period. amazing on guitar too.. and its not his speed i find impressive..
There are great solos in Wall of sound that could easily go to top 10, (especially the main anthem of whiteworm) you should have an updated version. Cheers!!!

I think the solo for "Killing Road" should be a little further up the list.. That solo is so BADASS! ;) Actually, the one for "Foreclosure of a Dream" is pretty awesome,although short :)
being a musician is a thing, being an awesome guitarist is an other thing. marty is one of the best guitarist in the world (not the best) but he is such a wonderful musician. just listen to these solos and feel what he felt while he's composing. i love you mr friedman
He might be the best electric guitarist, but he admits he's not a great acoustic guitarist. Most of my generation learned on an acoustic and then went to electric. People now go directly to electric often that are self tuning. So much easier
Most people don't know this but one of the key factors that makes Marty's sound unique is his strange right hand. The flexed curvature is basically a modified form of the rare Gypsy Jazz style picking, which was invented to create a louder, more aggressive pick attack. He leverages a massive downward pickslant and uses circular thumb picking to get around the string change issue (for example when the pick is below the string and he needs to move to the string above). You can't reach as much consistent speed output with Gypsy style picking as you can with traditional picking but you get MUCH more power. Think of it like the difference between an AK47 and a metronome. AK47 shoots extra fast and clean in short bursts but then soon gets out of control if you keep shooting without rest, but the sound is dynamic and powerful while a metronome maintains consistent high speed, but the sound is rather weak and mechanical.
Tornado of Souls is my favorite metal solo but I think Friedmans best solo overall is in Tears of An Angel Skip to 3:34 on the song if its 5:08 minutes long.
dozo89 Imo, his best sounding solos are the ones that make your heart race. Tornado of Souls is the best metal solo but not Marty's best, My list of his absolute best would be 7. Colorea Mi Vida 6. Amazing Grace 5. Devil Take Tomorrow 4. Be 3. LoveSorrow... and for first place I can't decide whether its Asu e No Sanka or Tears of An Angel they're both the best pieces of emotional soloing in history!
+tito quispe alarcon I personally think if you're going to compare Megadeth solos, anything in Countdown To Extinction is better than Killing just listen to Skin o My teeth solo for example much better than Killing Road
Great list and agree with the #1 spot! Though I wouldn't put 3 solos from RIP right on top. Some of the ones you could have considered - --Skin O My Teeth --Trust --Dragon Mistress --Glowing Path --Blood of Heroes
Too many good ones to choose. I would have gone for Five Magics, Skin O' My Teeth, Family Tree and possibly I Thought I Knew It All and just maybe Trust. Certainly not gonna argue with #1 - God level.
Considered in my Top Twelve best guitarists of the modern era, musical and technical talents both included. For me the best Marty Friedman solo with Megadeth is The Killing Road, with others on Youthanasia following. Desert Island and Lucretia sound awesome too. He has a gorgeous restlessness and tension, always wishing to break out of the scale and the rhythms hes in and always happy to syncopate the accents and runs. Its his melodic maturity and experimentation that keeps him above the 'competition', if such there be. Being fast is one thing, being fast and clever is quite another. Never a dull moment with Marty :-)
No complaints with this list, love Marty's eastern influence in his solos. Only negative is I wish Chris Poland played with Megadeth longer, love what he did in his brief stint.

Tornado of Souls is almost the perfect solo. It incorporates almost everything apart from tapping, which you could probably shoehorn in if you were playing it yourself. Best solo of all time!
since Marty developed his style from his own heart, soul, and mind, it came out unique and original not bland and similar to any other guitarist. He figured out scales and licks from his own mind. Not text books and stupid arrogant guitar teachers.
Todd Fury Jason didn't teach Marty a single thing, BECAUSE of Jason and his situation makes Marty think differently when writing as in he gets much more inspired. It was actually Marty who taught Jason a lot and helped him get out of the box his style if playing was stuck in.

Symphony of destruction can't touch "Forbidden City" on the album Dragon's Kiss. Forbidden City is possibly his best work.Might give it a listen before you create a "best of" list like this......
I thought I was the only one that loved it for a while lol :S kinda surprised to see all the love for it, I think it's just about the sentiment and momentum of it not about omg guize I can shredz; that's just me though.
