How cool to have an actual member of Celtic Frost join you, not to mention an industry legend like Brian Slagel. Thanks for putting all these great shows together Pete.
Hey!! Rewatching this video now, I didn’t realize Reed said “Nice to meet you Elliott” because of a glitch or lag on my computer when he said it. It was so nice to meet you too, Reed!!!
Top 13 Celtic Frost: A unique and unconventional band like Celtic Frost deserves a Top 13 to me … 13 - Os Abysmi Vel Daath - so doomy, nihilistic and awesome 12 - Caress Into Oblivion - love the dynamic changes 11 - Cherry Orchard - the female vocals somehow work great and the whole thing is such an ear worm I’ve got to give Tom Warrior credit (even if he hates Cold Lake now) 10 - Circle of the Tyrants - a great Motorhead-style rapid fire metal anthem 9 - Triptych suite (Totengott/Synagoga Satanae/Winter) - so scary, primal and esoteric. Nothing else like it. 8 - Mesmerized - great gothic tone and guitars, music reminds me of a great White Zombie song 7 - Ground - evil and angry anthem, heavy as hell 6 - (Once) They Were Eagles - Simple but effective chorus and I completely love the drums. 5 - Dawn of Meggido - doomy and imperial, mixes their punk-like tendencies with their experimental side nicely 4 - Dethroned Emperor - love the Am I Evil-like riff and the weird ass pronunciations of the song title, so Memorable and killer 3 - Procreation of the Wicked - Whether it’s this version or the Sepultura cover, always a good heavy jam 2 - Wine in My Hand (Third from the Sun) - Great riffs and a wicked groovy heavy stomp, kind of a Pantera feel, this to me is the real standout from Vanity/Nemesis 1 - Visions of Mortality - love the rollicking heavy gallop of this song, so infectious and rocking. Stephen Priestly kills it! Stephen and Reed St Mark the unsung heroes of CF!
I got to meet Reed at a show last year with Celtic Frost tribute band Cult of Frost. He played a few songs with them. Awesome guy who spared some moments to chat with fans. I also hear that he lives somewhere in the Va Beach area not far from where the show was...
1. Visions of Mortality 2. Dethroned Emperor 3. Into the Crypts of Rays 4. Circle of the Tyrants 5. Necromentical Screams 6. I Won't Dance 7. Mesmerized 8. Morbid Tales 9. Sorrows of the Moon 10. Nocturnal Fear
A pioneer. One of the greatest drummers from that period and a gentleman. Only ever wish he had recorded more music with Celtic Frost, such a shame. Still just glad that he seems healthy and in a good place!!
When I was a nerdy teenager, I came up with a formula to decide what the best Celtic Frost songs were, based off of Tom's "Non Sequiturs" (for lack of a better term). What ended up being #1 happened to also be my favorite of theirs (and still is). Not my real top 10, but here's the top 10 based on the formula (though I didn't check the last album): 1: Fainted Eyes 2: Return to the Eve (Party Mix) 3: The Usurper 4: Visual Aggression 5: Inner Sanctum 6: Nocturnal Fear 7: Eternal Summer 8: Suicidal Winds 9: Mexican Radio 10: Circle of the Tyrants
Good to hear everyone’s input on their favorite tracks as well as Reed’s insights. Only song that would have made my list that wasn’t mentioned by anyone is Mesmerized.
I very much enjoyed this show. I’m a big fan of their music and Reed’s drumming especially. I have the heptagram which appears on the Morbid Tales cover tattooed on my arm, so I’m quite dedicated! Great that you could get him on to do this.
Am I the only one that felt Reed was way too Fabio handsome to be in Celtic Frost back in the day 😂😂😂😂 anyway cool AF to have Reed on the show !! 1Necromantical Screams 2 Circle of the Tyrants 3 Procreation of the Wicked 4 A Dying God Coming Into Human Flesh 5 Babylon Fell 6 Dawn of Migiddo 7 Mesmerized 8 Cherry Orchards 9 Wine in My Hand 10 Into Crypts of Rays
I am glad found this live session with Reed St. Mark. Tom always joined to great drummers since Hellhammer era til Triptykon actually. I just desliked CF glam phase. Cheers from Brazil.
For anyone from the U.K., SELtic is the Glasgow football club in Scotland. KELtic means ‘of the Celts’. So I would imagine unless Celtic Park gets unnaturally cold, it would be KELTIC FROST.
I love Celtic Frost. Verygood video Pete. I pretty much agree with all you all's top ten list. CELTIC FROST one of my most favorite metal groups from way back. Some of the most heaviest music I've ever heard when MORBID TALES came out. And so original. Nobody sounded like Celtic Frost. \m/
It ended up being my #1 ... I was a little surprised there wasn't more variation among the 5 guys with a band like Celtic Frost that did so many different things.
Awesome show! 1. The Usurper(Tragic Serenades) 2. Return to the Eve(Tragic Serenades) 3. Dethroned Emperor 4. Os Abysmi Vel Daath 5. Babylon Fell(Jade Serpent) 6. I Won't Dance( The Elders Orient) 7. A Descent to Babylon (Babylon Asleep) 8. Domain of Decay 9. Into the Crypts of Rays 10. Idols of Chagrin. Worked on this for a week = almost impossible.

Ground I'm in the minority but I love the Cold Lake album, but not as a Celtic Frost album if that makes any sense.

A great drummer, a great technique. One of my favorite musicians and I listen to all music: Rock, Heavy, Italian Music, Folk, Jazz and classical music. Yeaaah! Bye From italy
Tough for me to choose only 10 Frost songs. I love almost everything they've done, but I'll try > 1) Ground 2) Necromantical Screams 3) Os Abysmi vel Daath 4) Procreation of the Wicked 5) Dawn of Meggido 6) Mesmerized 7) North Winds 8) Circle of the Tyrants 9) Into the Crypt of Rays 10) Cherry Orchards (Yes, I love it. Tom's makeup notwithstanding, maybe the greatest glam metal song ever!) I only saw them twice. The first time was opening up for Exodus at Fender's Ballroom in Long Beach with Reed on drums (he and the Frost sounded killer!) in 1987, and then 20 years later in 2007 at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood. They opened up for Type O Negative. Blew me away! RIP Martin Ain and Pete Steele.
Great show guys saw these and Kreator on the ITP tour in Cardiff where some madman launched himself of the top of a PA, and landed on the top of this guy by me ( not a pretty sight)..songwise, where is Inner Sanctum guys???
Cool video. People if they haven’t should listen to High on Fires covers of Into Crypts of Rays and The Usurper. Very excellent covers. Matt Pike said High on Fire was basically Celtic Frost worship.
I remember an old (I think) album review in Kerrang! from the '80s, believe it was by Mick Wall, mentioning that Tom insisted it was pronounced Seltic or preferred it that way.
@@lucasbeer353 And it should be "Keltic", because it refers to the people of the Celts (pronounced Kelts). The ancestors of many Irish, Scottish and Welsh and other contemporary people in Europe.
Great video! Really put me in the mood for a Celtic Frost marathon! Am I the only one who loves Obscured? I guess it's more in line with the Apollyon Son project, given its Industrialised Bowie drowned in eerie atmospherics kinda vibe, and not an atypical Frost track (if there's such a thing), but I love it....
Unless I missed something, was really the only person who listed procreation of the wicked? Such a great tune. Also glad to hear all the love for into the crypts of Ray
First Mercyful Fate and now Celtic Frost!!! Awesome stretch of underrated 80's "alternate" thrash....May I suggest Metal Church next???? Loved the reaction on everyone's face when Pete threw out the Cold Lake joke. I know everyone wanted to crack up but it was like with an actual member of CF there they didn't want to disrespect him even though he wasn't part of that album.... I have to admit I haven't given Monotheist a fair shot yet so none of those songs made it, but they probably would had I listened to it with an open mind... On to my Top 10: 10) Cherry orchards (Just kidding - if only for the comic effect of the video) Real 10) Idols of chagrin 9) Suicidal winds 8) My inner sanctum 7) Morbid tales 6) I won't dance 5) Jewel throne 4) Circle of the tyrants 3) Dethroned emperor 2) Babylon fell 1) Into the crypts of rays
1 Nocturnal Fear 2 Visions Of Mortality 3 The Usurper 4 Morbid Tales 5 Into The Crypts Of Rays 6 Circle Of The Tyrants 7 Jewel Throne 8 Dethroned Emperor 9 (Beyond The) North Winds 10 Inner Sanctum HM Dawn Of Megiddo
SELTIC is actually the original pronunciation of the word itself (not talking about the band). It was later adapted by another group of ppl who pronounced it KELTIC.
not sure about the order. My ten CF songs 1. Into The Crypt Of Rays 2. Visions Of Mortality 3. Circle Of The Tyrants 4. The Usurper 5. Jewel Throne 6. Eternal Summer 7. Morbid Tales 8. Necromantical Screams 9. Visual Aggression 10. Babylon Fell (Jade Serpent)
1. Return to the eve 2. Dethroned Emperor 3. Visions of Mortality 4. Circle of the Tyrants 5. Dawn of Megiddo 6. The Ursurper 7. Necromantical Screams 8. Babylon Fell 9. Inner Sanctum 10. Mezmerize
Hola soy jordi tengo 49 y con 17 años escuche el "emperor return" en foto disco de un amigo, y desde entonces me quede fascinado con el sonido. Saludos
Hey Brian, you should put a bug in your buddies ear that works at super 7 about creating a reaction figure of cliff burton..I collect these figures and always thought cliff would be a great tribute piece..🤘
There should be lots more views of this video. Gotta love Cold Lake. Tom G was the only one out there to combine Death Metal and Glam :D Cant get any more creative than that.
Well, it was pretty couragous putting things together that don't fit together, but I wouldn't call it creative. That album and their whole new image ended the first part of their career. Fortunately they went back to thrashy doom stuff and darker lyrics.
@@dr.phibesinred6066 Yeah, most of my friends hated it. Like you said, took alot of guts to pull that off. Definitely shows Tom G wasnt gonna let anything get in the way of his experimenting. 1st time I listened to it, I knew it's a 1 off thing.
Jewel Throne The Usurper Eternal Summer Into The Crypts Of Ray's Dethroned Emperor Dawn Of Meggido Procreation (Of The Wicked) Circle Of The Tyrants Wings Of Solitude I Won't Dance (The Elder's Orient)
"What ever happened to Celtic Frost? Is it true that they got lost in the pandemonium Never to be seen again Tom Warrior fell from a tree in cherry orchard Martin Ain drowned in a cold lake Reed St. Mark went to Mega Therion and remains there 'till this day Tom Warrior is waiting for the emperor's return Martin Ain's trapped in the circle of tyrants Reed St. mark was blinded in the crypt of rays where he remains 'till this day"
I love all the stuff to morbid tales to Nemesis of power . I wouldnt call monotheist a shit album , but the way with drums and over gloomy down tuned stuff , its a bit hermetic on long term and lacks dynamics . Stephen and Reed as Swing , style and arrangements ( Old school drummers that think like songwriters ) , it gave really something in the songs and in the sound , unique and the moods and original fills and Feel and spaces . Groove , swing .ITP is my favorite , and along Deep Purple , certains experimentation on my live drums solo while i was still searching myself in previous bands , my mediteranean influences, Black sabbath , Louie bellson , Joe morrelo , Tear for fears mahavishnu orchestra , I have to admit that ITP and Reed , influenced quite my arrangements as an arranger , drummer , on the First Extravasion Album " Origins of magma " , especially in the last song of the record , which is my favorite " LA NUIT", if you want to check it out ... And ive always liked Cold lake . Drop the image , its quite a Nwobhm / Power metal album version Of CF . I think its a transition album a bit less inspired , But its still a good heavy record . In fact ITP , CD and VN to me are Connected in 3 things : Among the pushing boundaries , An Overlooked Prince influence around the same era . A growing continuity of the musician ship Kind of dominant thing about pre extreme / thrash type of more nuanced HM riffs . Demos of Cold lake are really great , Heavier , more dynamics , more conviction . The only thing that fucked up CD was the production , if it was as demos .. would be different . And the image . But in a way i accept CD package because after ITP , even without losing much of his original european roots gritt , it took it extreme in back it now , as derision type of expression , hilarious tongue in cheek presentation , ultimate Troll level to piss the trve narrow extreme fans that even call sell out a back to the pre extreme style. I find this hilarious . But i think if the vocals were more convincing and The dynamics were as the demos and the image was more british metal as most of riffs , it would be not as misinterpreted and bashed. If the album necromonicon had seen the light of day with Reed with songs like Barreal of fear and Jihad , Ron song .. we missed a great another innovative album . Even it was mean to be the last album then . There s a funk metal album with ex Prince guitar player , that Tom talked about between 1987 -1992 . Never happened . In my knowledge . I wish Nemesis of Power which i love , could be an album too . Even few riffs were picked for monotheist . Ive met Stephen priestly when my ex band recorded an album in swiztzeland at Pfaffikon , we spend new year s eve 2019 at the Kater bar . Great and one of the nicest guy ive met . I would like meet Reed . But you left Europe since long .
For me the last album is complete crap. No songs, only noise! But I love all from Morbid tales to Vanity/Nemesis. Yes, Cold Lake too. Nice to see Reed.
