I wouldn't really count Lightning's "victory" against Revolver as legitimate. It was supposed to end in a draw, but Lightning cheated to give himself one life point left. Not with a card, but with a completely unrelated factor (Jin's data). It's like Joey vs Marik. Yeah, Marik "won" but we all know what really happened. Edit: No, I am not saying Joey is > Marik. That's not the reason I'm comparing the duels. The point of the comparison is that both duels' conclusion ended with an outside factor rather than the duel itself.
Yeah, plus let's not forget that at one point Revolver was 1 attack away from surely winning the duel (end of episode 97, I think), but didn't attack due to Jin being held as an hostage

He cheated twice technically. He used Jin as a hostage when Revolver was about to attack for game. Then when Revolver got a draw he cheated to keep 1LP.

I think it's pretty clear that Revolver's ruthlessness became to fall because he was willing to turn a new leaf but I agree that he was a beast during season 1

I really think Bohman is underrated. I always appreciate a villain that gets stronger over time rather then makes there debut as a powerful opponent. I also like the symbolism of him becoming this perfect being. I hope someday his deck gets printed.
I find Bohman to be like Primo but more annoying due to wanting to defeat the protagonist, it almost feels like an obsession. Still can't get over how *Chimera Hydradrive Dragrid* was a poorly designed Link Monster.
I was so confident Ai would be in the top 5. And Revolver is only 5th? Lightning would’ve been my 6th. I was so confident on my Top 5: Playmaker, Soulburner, Revolver, Ai then Bohman. Damn that top 5 is a bit conflicting. I can’t agree with Lightning above Revolver since Lightning completely cheated in that duel and cheesed a win so Lightning doesn’t deserve to be in Top 5. I’m confident both Ai and Revolver could beat Bohman - I know this post is based off duels we saw but I doubt Bohman’s attribute strategy would work against Revolver perhaps Ai. Ai, in my opinion, Ai is the strongest Ignis. Like you said, having been at Playmaker’s side, that experience gives him a really good edge. Hopefully, we’ll get Sevens though it’ll probably be a while later until Dylan recovers from his surgery.

By the end of the show, there’s barely a case for Nail to be top 5, especially compared to Asana, Luke, Roa, Otes and Yugoha
I think I would go: Lightning < Revolver < Bohman Since Revolver was just equal to Lightning in that duel (they would be around the same ranking), but Lightning also believed Bohman to be stronger than him (and Revolver by extension). I think Yusaku was the only character (at that point in the show) who could have beaten Bohman. Soulburner and (maybe) AI surpassed Bohman later, but Revolver’s peak was likely that duel with Lightning, which puts him below Bohman.
Soulburner is really strong Also I kinda like specter two true he didn't many many wins but he was great at getting into people's heads he even made lightning angry

However, the only characters I flip will be between revolver and lightning because Revolver was going to beat lightning during their dual however lightning use Jin as a hostage and playmaker Convincing him not to attack with his borrload xyz dragon and another point, the dual would have ended it as a draw If lightning didn't convert Jin memories into one life point causing him to win that duel.
Kinda hard for Playmaker to not be #1 when the circumstances of the story basically didn’t allow him to ever realistically lose without heavy consequences. If he lost even once to anyone he dueled, it’s basically Armageddon for everyone.
Same could be said for Yusei tbh; every time him and Playmaker dueled, the stakes were high so they had to win or things would have gotten pretty ugly. If they had a duel with no such high stakes, then they could have afford a defeat.
Blue angel would be the strongest if the anime didn't hate how op burn decks are. Imagine the negate 2000 damage trap card and her deck? Duels would end faster than my interest in the Crow clone

Lightning did NOT beat Revolver. Lightnight only beat Revolver if Kaiba beat Yugi in their second duel. Lightning at least lost to Boman because he absorbed that 1 LP.
Yeah, I'm salty that Lightning declared victory from a DRAW and somehow that counts as a WIN. I'm well within my right to feel that way because that's not what dueling is all about.
Based on feats, overall dueling ability and intention by the writers, Revolver should easily be top 3. His loss to lightning is not even a loss. He lost to playmaker who is number 1 but also drew with him twice. Bohman on the other hand only managed one draw against him. His loss to soulburner was more for closure for soulburner's character but it's still a loss so it's taken into account. But yeah, overall definitely top 3, most likely 3rd. Also Ai should be above both lightning and bohman at his strongest since he has the data of all the other ignis and pushed playmaker during their final duel so probably 4rth spot for him although in a duel between him and soulburner during the end Ai would probably win but that's besides the point
playmaker dueled revolver in season 1 and bohman in season 2 with bohman growing as a duelist as the season kept going unlike revolver who was already as good in the beginning of s1 as in the end of it. Unless there is some unreleased footage about revolver sharpening his duel skills. Playmaker only defeated bohman because Ai, hanoi, akira and ghost girl (and ropoppi) sacrificed themselves to the neuron link could be stopped. Without it he would have clearly lost

I'd go with Playmaker Ai Varis Bohman Soulburner Lightning The Gore Spectre Skye Zaizen Roboppi I don't think we have enough information on Roboppi to put them any higher. As you said, Varis lost something after season 1 and I think with that edge he would have surpassed Lightning (who he drew with) and possibly even Soulburner.
1. Playmaker 2. Revolver 3. Ai 4. Soulburner 5 Bohman Revolver Vs Soulburner was such a punted game. Revolver was pushing Soulburner to overcome his issues not to win. Not to mention Soulburner had to top deck one of the most anime of anime cards to win despite Revolver not going all out. Lightning cheated twice against Revolver as well. 1 when using Jin as a hostage to prevent Revolver for attacking for game. 2. when hacking the duel to leave himself with 1LP instead of drawing with Revolver.
I feel like the rankings should be based off ability and not results and I'd definitely put Revolver ahead of lightning or even Bohman. Revolver absolutely defeated lightning it wasn't even close which proves his ability rather then off of a technicality which wasn't even a loss it woulda been a draw.

Yeah no, Ai is definitely the #2 duelist in the show, especially when you consider his 'best/prime'; if you look at his strongest formation in his final duel with Playmaker, _no one else_ is fully breaking that, not even Soulburner. I know you said Ai's resume wasn't great, but don't forget Pandor was literally created to counter Ai (even down to using Topologina) & there were multiple copies sharing data & helping his opponent's make countering plays accordingly, and Ai still won despite all that; Pandor even acknowledged Ai's incredible ability to adapt & avoid danger. Even before taking over a SOLtis, Ai was underrated because he was also the show's primary comic relief, for example, Bohman had been analysing & learning from Playmaker's data which was methodical & logical, and as such was prepared to counter it; he openly admitted during R3 that he wasn't prepared for Ai's emotions & instincts, which made Ai more dangerous than the other Ignis because those traits couldn't be accounted for & he was the only Ignis to have them. As an Ignis, Ai was the one modelled after the strongest Lost Incident victim (Playmaker) & it shows - he was on track to cleanly defeat Playmaker in the finale (and I'm not talking about the original ending) - and the only reason he lost was because he played TA.I Strike; Playmaker himself admitted that he had nothing & so would have lost if Ai had instead just gone to crash Dark Templar (which couldn't be mutually destroyed) into Decode Talker. Regarding Ai's clones losing, don't forget the clones weren't programmed to try & win, but to stall for time to keep the power trio occupied. Realistically, the Top 5 looks like: #1) Playmaker #2) Ai #3) Bohman #4) Revolver/Soulburner #5) Soulburner/Revolver
Bohman wouldn’t be ahead of soulburner and he’s definitely not ahead of revolver your overrating AI yes he was strong and he’s top 3 in my book but he was watching what everyone was doing the whole time it’s a reason why they were looking for him so he had all that time to come up with a great plan AI was great but Pandor was the only duelist he beat that meant something especially at that time before his match against playmaker himself
@@raphaelwilkes97 Bohman at his best could use a skill (in a Master Duel) every turn. If you don't consider that being strong then yeah by all means drop him, but I still think he's a solid #3. I get that Ai was watching people the whole time but that doesn't take away from his dueling prowess (especially against unknown opponents or opponents he'd only watched once or twice), and the reason his roster isn't great is because his plan wasn't contingent on beating everyone so he wasn't actively going after them (most duels he had were people approaching him trying to stop him).

I think I would put Specter ahead of Go; yes Go beat an Ignis but Specter dueled quite well against probably the strongest Ignis. He also has had a lot of experience I’m sure with watching Revolver. I think an honorable mention can go to Blood Shepard. He also dueled decently against Lighting, but it is foreshadowed that maybe he could’ve beaten Soulburner if their duel continued. And perhaps even Windy can have an hindrance mention. Yes, he lost twice and dueled twice only. But he was very close to beating Revolver, and if he used his negate hand trap earlier he would’ve beaten Soulburner. Unfortunately we could only get so many duels with Ai, but I do honestly think he would’ve only lost to Playmaker. I don’t think there is anyway Ai losses to Revolver if they duel. Maybe Ai could be lighting, which might be controversial. But I do say this since the show seems to indicate that when these characters use Fusion, XYZ, or Synchro that it is harder for the Ignis to beat. The Ignis seem to counter links quite well, but anytime someone has used another method vs an Ignis it lost. Except Revolver. But when an Ignis has mastered those summons also I think they could beat another Ignis.

Bruh revolver straight up beat lighting twice he dead ass had lightning dead to rights and the only reason he lost was A because of the plot and B he wanted to save the guys brother
People complain about Yusaku but they forget he was tortured and forced to duel. It makes sense he’s such a good duelist because if he messed up he was electrocuted. That would mess you up and it obviously did as we saw with his revenge plot against Hanoi. If I was in his position I’d practice like nobodys business to get to that level just to never feel that level of vulnerability and weakness again. Which is why he needed his connections with A.I. and the cast to open up a bit more.
I would put the top 5 as: 1. Playmaker 2. Revolver 3. Soulburner 4. Ai 5. Bowman Playmaker is #1 for obvious reasons. I put Revolver at number 2 because he let Soulburner win….he intentionally banished Borreload and Borreload Savage when he could have kept them on the field along with Zeroboros. Soulburner is right behind him because I think he could defeat Ai. Ai is strong, but with the clone argument I do think the previous 3 could beat him. I also think the Link 6 access makes him stronger than Bowman
Revolver didn't let Soulburner win. 1st of all Zeroboros is a mandatory effect to banish if you intentially special summon to a zone it points to. Secondly it was his only way to out violet chimera because of the equip spell it had. Revolver is a good duelist but that loss was legitamate.
Varis (AKA Revolver) to me has to be the strongest duellist from VRAINS. Not only does he have powerful monsters, most of them being Rank 4 Link monsters (which he I think he has more of than anyone else), but also he is always one or two steps ahead of his opponents.
I agree that Revolver maybe should be higher. However, while he may be 2 steps ahead of his opponent, Playmaker has a better style: figuring out the opponent first, than being 4 steps ahead of him the entire time after that. Sure, there are quite a lot of "I need this 1 card to win" moments, but that's because writers need to make duels exciting. Aside from those 1 in a duel moments, he is always ahead after the early game it feels
I was heartbroken when you gave Ai the 6th spot, in my opinion Ai is the strongest duelist in vrains and here's why, in the final duel he could have easily defeated playmaker if he didn't activated tai strike which we all know playmaker is the strongest in vrains at that time so if Ai won he's stronger than playmaker, also in that duel playmaker would had struggled if he didn't had revolvers dragon, since that dragon isn't playmakers card I found it cheating a little bit and with the help of that dragon it lead to playmakers victory, I understand why u gave Ai a lower spot cause he's only had 5 duels but since he had the opportunity to defeat playmaker in my opinion he's the strongest duelist, when I saw Ai human form for the first time I was like omg he's so cool looking I don't care what deck he uses I'm gonna use it and suprise to myself it's my strongest deck and the first deck that I actually love and cared for cause I loved the character and understands the lore of the @ignister deck
Roboppi should be higher up in this list considering they were owning Soulburner in that duel. If they didn't malfunction they would had won that duel regardless, even AI was afraid was afraid og how advance they were becoming.
I think Bohman should not be in top 10, because: 1)He used Skill in Master Duel, which is considered cheating. 2)Use dumb luck to win, or even force a good luck. That's my opinion.

Yeah AI at 6 I really disagree with lol AI was was unstoppable in the last season, beating most of of cast. Sometimes so quickly, they didn’t even show the duel lol I’d honestly have him at 2.
For last 5 before Aoi, I would say it Shepard at 11, Ghost Gal at 12, Windy at 13, Earth at 14, and Faust for 15 (I didn’t really know who eles to put here at 15 so he was honestly my best bet but there’s probably someone better that I’m not remembering or something) Edit: for 15 probably Akira, Pandor, Queen are also some good picks
I'll be honest I would almost put Soulburner in front of Playmaker because Soulburner never dueled playmaker and Soulburner is one of the only duelists of the main cast that Playmaker never dueled so you could make the argument that they didn't think Playmaker could win.
They did duel in duel links (wich has the Canon continuation of vrains) and soulburner won. But on the other hand, in duel links revolver said that he let soulburner have closure, and beat him afterwards. So in reality those 3 are relative to each other.
This is a good list! I think Aoi and Ai are way to low. I think Aoi by the end of the show is above Roboppi just with her showing against Bohman (I think Aoi is a strong seventh). and I think Ai and Bohman are 3 and 2 respectively just because of their showing against Playmaker (the Ai clones can be explained by Ai purposefully just using them as distractions). But I do think Soulburner above Lightning and Revolver. This is still a really good list! VRAINS is hard to rank because the characters have such big power increases and their dueling prowess is tied to their mental state which makes it hard to tell
I feel the only reason Ai lost against Revolver, Playmajer and Soulburner was because hecwas just stalling for time, and he was planning to lose to Playmaker later. Hell its implied Ai threw the final fight.
I do agree with you there. If you were in Ai's position, if you win the duel, you will basically kill your friend along with yourself. And you are already set on commiting suicide yourself only because you don't want your said friend to die because of you. It just defeats the entire purpose of going through all of this by winning.
This man putted Joey > Yami Marik because as a duelist without tricks Joey beats Yami Marik, but also putted Lightning above Revolver. Even after his death the goat of Vrains keeps getting robbed, that's plain sad lol
I think the fact you put Bohman above lightning because he absorbed lightning before the last duel is a solid argument to put Ai above lightning too, as the latter did absorb all the ignis after defeating Bohman before season 3. In fact, had Playmaker not been given borrelload savage dragon by revolver and had Ai Not activated his last card in their final showdown, he would have won that duel (just as playmaker stated himself) . I mean, the fact the originally conceived ending of Vrains being about Yusaku LOSING to Ai and dooming the future of humankind puts things into perspective I think: either one of the could have easily won that duel at the end, and Yusaku really only won because he was lucky. The two of them being perfect equals makes perfect sense to me

Imo, doesnt matter if we saw a lot of ai or not, he is top 4 with sb, pm and revolver, he and his deck have both the skill and power to back it up. While bohman, not only lost a lot, he had to cheat to beat most of the characters (using "luck" without having to have luck, since he could just decide the outcome by controlling the cyber world) and his deck sucks ass, without he controlling the outcome of his luck he would just lose due to his deck being complete trash. And Lightning would not beat revolver had he not used his host as a hostage, and even with that he only managed to draw with revolver.

Good list overall! These are actually very hard to rank them since really, there’s not enough duels to compare the strength between certain duelists. For my list: (Honorable mentions: Ghost girl, Pandor, Windy) 10. Akira/Aoi (I give Akira some credits due to his combos being quite deadly to deal with) 9. Spectre 8. Roboppi 7. Go 6. Lightning 5. Bohman 4. Revolver 3. Soulburner (I know he lost to Bohman but at the very top power, I think he can exceed Bohman) 2. Ai (the guy is literally the final boss version of Bohman) 1. Playmaker (he literally has everything for a comeback lmao)
You do need to take into account Lightning and Bohman were cheaters! Revolver would’ve beaten Lightning if the latter didn’t use Jin as a hostage. And with Bohman’s last few duels, he was manipulating his dice rolls to his advantage when he synced with Link Vrains.
Ehh, I would have put Revolver ahead of Lightning.... because Lightning only beat him because of not 1, but TWO sets of out-of-duel shenanigans. The first was holding Jin's data hostage to force Revolver to end his turn instead of make a winning play, and with that extra turn he got, all he could do from that alone was alter the circumstances to end the duel in a draw... prompting shenanigan number 2, converting some of Jin's data into LP (which just feels like flat out cheating, since there is no way he could have just gained LP there in terms of game mechanics) to give himself just enough to survive the otherwise double KO.
Lets be honest, the draws PM got don't count as him "losing", just count as him "not defeating his opponents" since it was always the opponent the one that was forced into a draw. PM was always superior to Revolver and Bohman to a point where I reached the final duels of their arcs and didn't feel any kind of tension because they keep reminding you thatr PM was stronger than them, even if they can cause trouble for him. And maybe I'm worng but I remember Lightning basically cheating to not lose against Revolver, so he shouldn't be over Revolver
My top 5 would be 1. Playmaker 2. Ai 3. Revolver 4. Lighting 5. Soulburner I disagree with putting Ai so low on the list, he created a Link 6 and would have beaten Playmaker if he hadn't played Ta.i strike. I’d honestly put Revolver and Ai above Lightning-considering that we see Revolver and Blood Shepherd duel with the former beating the latter in only 3 turns, and Ai defeating Spectre off screen. And taking into a count how Lightning had to cheat twice in order to defeat Revolver, I just genuinely don’t see Lightning making it to the top 5
I would probably drop Lightning and Bohman 2 spots. Maybe Robbopi as well. As for entire franchise I would like to see Yusei VS Playmaker as I feel like Yusei edges out Playmaker just barely because of more wins against big challengers.
So random comment, wasn’t the ignis war arc technically a mini tournament arc, and the finals was bowman vs playmaker? I don’t know why but it feels like that to me, only those who won went to fight others who won and whoever lost was eliminated.

Though fun fact, Yuto and Yugo JP VA stopped kinda after ARC V series because they were married to their spouses. I have no evidence to support the first. Thats what i heard but regarding Yuto/Yugo, i saw it in the wiki 8:54: I'm just going to say that Lightning literally cheated against Revolver to win on two occasions. The first was holding Jin hostage which actually saved him from losing. The second was the consciousness convert to extra LP. That's like a down ranking right there. Though I'll still agree that lightning is still a strong duelist.
