Interesting thought: If mittens are banned based upon having 1, 2, or 3 separations, what would the ruling be if the rider only has 3 fingers (Maybe from an incident with a Spinergy wheel) and got a glover to make a glove with 3 separations to fit?

The F1 fact is wrong to start off with. Even the wealthiest of teams are struggling to reach the minimum weight especially with the new hybrid engines. There are many sports that is split in to different classes/leagues, which let's be honest, is divided by wealth. So who says that cycling would be restricted to the wealthiest? Why can't there be different classes? Eg. Bike weight classes? It only makes sense! It includes everyone and develops the sport and technology. Or were you one of them that didn't want the invention of the bicycle in the first place because the peasants couldn't afford them and was excluded?

When skin suits were first used in the early 80's I have a vague recollection that they broke some sort of BCF rule because two separate items of clothing were specified in the hand book, although if you wore a vest underneath you were fine! White socks only (if worn) ... coloured socks were banned as was any obvious branding on your kit. In Northern Ireland we weren't allowed to start a race without a bell attached to the bike ... one of the local stalwarts (Billy Reilly!) used to sell 'disposable' bells if you had forgotten. Simply put barriers should be along the roads for the entire length of any categorised climbs. The spectators need to be kept back for their own safety and the safety of the riders and the safety of the race officials and the safety of police riding along with the race. Spectators have conclusively shown that they cannot be trusted on the categorised climbs, so they should be restricted there.

UCI should introduce a budget cap so that more bicycle brands can have a chance to race their frames. There are great manufactures out there and it will allow everyone to make use of their strengths. I think no more than two teams should ride the same brand. The Giro, Tour and Vuelta are turning in to a Wall-Mart with Specialized bikes vs Specialized. There are way better bikes out there that don't have the same budgets for lawyers and exposure ; ) .

It doesn't make sense to ban various equipment for causing injuries, but restrict saddle tilt so that everyone has to maintain an unsafe position at the spine. Prolonged spinal flexion is the perfect recipe for disc herniations and slipped discs. There are scientific journals showing that low back pain is the number one injury in World Pro cycling, and it could have been prevented by removing the saddle tilt ban. Andrew Talansky probably wouldn't have needed to bail last year's TDF due to low back pain if they could have gotten his lumbar spine in neutral. Sucks that something that promotes safe biomechanics is banned as providing an unfair advantage.

What else to ban? Hmmmm. Well, the racing took on a different vibe once radios, and in particular the sorts of tactical information often shared via the airwaves, became common place. I do believe the racing was more challenging for the riders when tactics were either hashed out on the road or discussed through an open car window. I understand their safety benefits though. Perhaps use them for safety alerts exclusively. Call me a luddite, but radios kind of sterilized the sport.

Maxz I have been saying that for years. Keep light carbons for indoor racing and outside 30 lbs bikes weather carbon or Alloy. This would make all Pro Cyclists rethink the training on a 6 kg bike as that would not do jack shit for their legs. There is no hell in change that any of the current pros would ever ride a 30 lbs road bike period. UCI needs to end this crap make all bikes 30 lbs and those who do not have the legs GTFO it's that simple also eliminate all TUE.

Not sure what you are talking about, Danfuerth Gillis? 7 kg or 15 kg bikes for everyone would make things... the same for everyone, but slower for everybody. Your make their life harder for the sake of it is not a very good reasoning, at all. Besides, all the sponsorship would be out because nobody would be buying the pros bikes. Congratulations, you just made outdoors pro-cycling disappear.

Ban the weight ban! It's been out of date longer than it was in date (if that's a term). Their job is to keep up to date on things, so why are they dragging their heels on the weight!? It'd be awesome seeing guys climbing on 5lb bikes. Although it does do a handy job at keeping the field level in terms of bike weight
@JmanEspresso
@JmanEspresso 9 лет назад
***** ehh, wouldnt matter in terms of keeping the field level. Lift the wieght ban, and in two three years time, all the top bikes will be at a certain wieght give or take some grams. They'll figure out just how light they can go before it hits the breaking point, and everyone will follow suit. Hope they do though, cuz right now, the UBER light bikes are basically made for the consumer. IF they could make those bike for the pros, we consumers would see a huge market spike of innovation. with how far weve come, I dont think we'll ever again see a period of time where anything but the rider himself/herself, makes the most difference in what determines a champion.

There has to be a set weight that makes it a competition of the rider more than the bike it makes it *level* playing ground so now the issue is train harder for climbs reduce ones body weight while maintaining strength and stamina. It's not nascar a competition of machines it's a truly athletic sport now banning a position in the bike "superman" that's ridiculous. Lift that Asap. I'd sooner see doping than lifting the weight ban. Oh wait we did see doping. 7 wins is 7 wins.

The motorcycles really piss me off. Not just the danger and accidents, but they are annoying to see in the background when your watching a group of cyclists. Get some drones. You can even put things on the riders to make the drones auto follow and record them its fucking 2016. You dont have to endanger people for a camera man.. Seeing the support cars is also annoying, but at least they mostly stay in the way back.

You left out recumbent bicycles. They were banned in the 1930s (I think) because recumbents are faster than their equivalent upright bikes. Case in point: I ride a recumbent mountain bike (heavy bugger, about 45 lbs) at the same speeds or faster than I can get to on my road bike.
@michaelbacon7149
@michaelbacon7149 9 лет назад
I hear this claim all the time, but I always pass recumbents on my road bike. I think it's cause most people who ride recumbents aren't doing it for the speed, but for the comfort, or uniqueness am I right? Most of the people on recumbents I see are also older, no offense.
@AlexandarHullRichter
@AlexandarHullRichter 9 лет назад
Michael Bacon Might have something to do with where you ride. I'm in California, and that's typical, but I've read a number of times that it's the opposite in Europe. In any case, you can't compare your bike to one someone else is riding because the rider might be completely different. For all you know, those recumbent riders you keep passing couldn't hope to keep up with you on bikes identical to yours, or it could be that they aren't riding for speed, like you said. What I know is that I'm as fast on my recumbent mountain bike as I am on my much lighter road bike. A definate advantage to the recumbent is that I'm more comfortable handling it at speed. My recumbent is better balanced than a road bike, and my center of gravity is a little lover, so it handles better; its wheelbase is a little shorter than a road bike with the front wheel mounted behind the front of the frame, so its more nimble; and the bike can't physically wobble under me, so it's more stable through corners.

@benbraceletspurple9108
@benbraceletspurple9108 9 лет назад
Depends on hills, and the specific bike. The world human land speed records are held on recumbent bikes. The flat speed record on a normal road bike is not even 70 mph. On uphills, turns, and drafting, recumbents lose their speed.

Right back to 1934, when they banned Francis Faure's Mochet frame, after he defeated every first-class track cyclist in Europe. He was a 'second class' rider, and had, so they said, 'no right' to beat them! The decision froze the shape of the bicycle frame to that of the 1885 Starley 'safety' bicycle, effectively ending racing as a contributor to bicycle development.

Despite the fact that my man Greg LeMond helped usher in this era, my answer is still: radios. For me, it's so much more fun to watch (and yes I'm that old) when there is the element of the riders on the road having to read the race and make their own decisions in real time.
