They changed it because "Let It Go" was too beautiful to be a villain song. So they turned Elsa into an emotionally abused anti-hero and made Hans the crappy jerk we all know and is the current enemy of all female Disney fans.
Finally a video recognizing Merida's importance! Frozen stole all the glory (still trying to understand why, btw) but Merida was the first to deal with her problems without the help or aiming for a guy!
She was the first Disney Princess to not have a love interest, yes. But that is really not fair towards most of the earlier princesses, who never had just aiming for a guy as their only goal. Even if we go back to Snow White, she took her job as a housekeeper seriously until Florian arrived and helped the dwarves just as much as they helped her. It is true that Cinderella only had marriage as an honorable escape from her abusive stepmother, but it wasn’t her fault that the society around her worked that way. Ariel and Belle and Jasmine all had dreams of independence and adventures and didn't talk about romance before they met their love interests. Pocahontas became an ambassador, Mulan saved China and Tiana opened her own restaurant.
You also forgot these facts: The only princesses with BOTH of their parents alive are: Aurora, Mulan, Merida, Rapunzel, and Moana. Most of the other princesses either have only one parent alive or both biological parents are dead, like with Snow White and Cinderella Merida is the only Disney princess with an accent. Before her time, every Disney princess didn't have any sort of distinct accent until Brave hit theaters and audiences heard Merida's Scottish one. The only Disney princesses that know how to use a weapon are Mulan (sword) and Merida (bow and arrow). Rapunzel doesn't really count since a frying pan is technically not a weapon. Jasmine, Mulan (if you count the sequel movie), Pocahontas, and Rapunzel are the only princesses that married men not from any royalty. Anna doesn't count because she and Kristoff did not get married The only princesses that don't come from any royalty are Cinderella, Mulan, Belle, and Tiana Even though not technically a Disney princess or from any Disney princess film, Kida from the movie Atlantis is considered by many fans to be a princess due to her being the leader of Atlantis's daughter and her having many characteristics that Disney princesses are suppose to display like bravery, courage, and kindness The only princesses that are shown to know how to ride a horse are Mulan, Belle, Rapunzel (as seen in the animated series), Merida, and Anna

The women who voiced Jasmine and Mulan didn't know how to sing, so the princesses had a separate singing voice. Both of them (the singing voices) turned out to be done by the same person, Lea Salogna. 2. Ilene Woods, who voiced Cinderella, accidentally auditioned. 3. Mary Costa, who voiced Aurora, auditioned for Aurora only because she wanted to meet Walt Disney 4. Cinderella and Aurora had the same model. 5. Snow White was originally a blonde. 6. The looks of Aladdin are based off Jasmine. 7. Reese Witherspoon was to voice Rapunzel but dropped the offer. She was also to voice Merida, but she dropped that, too!
Pocahontas was also the only Disney princess to have a terrible real-life backstory changed for profit, being a sex slave at such a young age and being forced to move to England where she later died because she was unimmune to the disease. I wonder how many people don't know the real story behind Pocahontas. Also, John Smith was also ten years her senior when she was 14.

And there's actually a historical basis for this. Both sides deliberately caused avalanches in the Alps during WWI in order to take out enemy troops. And the look Mulan gave after the avalanche started was awesome!
Another thing some people don't know is that Giselle (from Enchanted) was declared a Disney Princess but it was later decided that because her movie wasn't fully animated, she shouldn't be a Disney Princess anymore.

I thought her hair was red because she it represents the Red Sea. Triton has seven daughters, which in theory, represent the Seven Seas. I think thats another reason why Ariel has red hair.
Actual criteria to be a Disney princess: Must meet one of the three requirements: -Born Royal -Marry Royal -Perform an act of heroism Must also meet ALL of the following requirements: 1) must be a primary role in a Disney movie 2) Cannot be introduced in a sequel 3) Must be human Marketing and box office success do play a massive role (look up "5 Snubbed Disney Princesses" and other Disney Princess videos by the SuperCarlinBrothers for more info), but these requirements are the current blueprint for the line-up.
And here is a couple more: Merida originally did have a love interest during pre-production. It was young macguffin. Anna, Elsa, and Moana will not be joining the disney princess line up, they're expected to hold up their own franchise instead. Merida is the only one to have brothers. Ariel is the only princess with a child. Cinderella is NOT a blond, in the original movie her hair has a red tint to it. On that note Cinderella's ballgown isn't blue, it's silver.

Ok, so you're kind of wrong here. While yes the movies are meant to be somewhat romance driven, they aren't entirely. They are primarily based around the main character's longing to be free or escape an oppressive family member. Almost all Disney princesses are horribly abused aside from Anna, Aurora, Moana, Bell, Tiana, and Ariel. The six who aren't abused are either overly sheltered, or oppressed in some form by an outside source. None of them are meant to be sexualized, or sexual in any way. Yes, romance is part of the movies but it's not the entire movie. And none of the princesses are under age. They are of legal ages for their time periods.
Another fact: they made another official requirement so that Mulan could be a Disney Princess. Before, you had to be either royal or marry royalty, and then have a financially well movie. But because they wanted to make Mulan an official Disney Princess, they made the rule that in order to also be a princess, you had to perform an act or heroism.
At this point, it's pretty much Disney LAW: Someone HAS to die. It doesn't matter if it was a hero, a neutral character, or a villain, SOMEONE HAS TO DIE!

Had it been successful, she'd have been the first of the progressive princesses during the renaissance. Requirements to be in the Disney Princess lineup are as follows. They must meet one of the first three: must be born into royalty must marry into royalty must preform an act of heroism (invented for Mulan) Second, she must be human or MOSTLY human. Which is why Ariel and Tiana make the cut but Nala doesn't. Third, the character in question must be a main protagonist in the first film, not a sequel. Fourth, must be animated which is why Princess Giselle was removed from the lineup. Amy Adams IS Princess Giselle and they can't fake her part in the theme parks. Fifth, box office returns. If the film makes money, exceptions will be made. So despite meeting all the other requirements, she gets gypped. Sixth, and this can be arbitrary, political correctness. Disney Princesses are chosen as role models for their time. If Princess and the Frog had failed in the box office, or Tiana hadn't become a princess or married Prince Naveen or performed any acts of heroism, she STILL would have been made a part of the lineup. Because it would have been suicide to the company to exclude the first black female protagonist in a Disney animated feature. In short, it's more complicated than most people realize.

Meagan Shupe Ok going by the "official" line up Anna and Elsa aren't Disney princesses. Megara isn't a princess, even though she married the prince of the gods. And she only isn't because she was in a boys movie, although Aladdin was a boys movie and Jasmine is a princess. Also Pocahontas would be a Disney Princess even though she isn't a princess, but the chiefs daughter.
King Triton is the son of Poseidon, who is Zeus' brother, which makes him and Hercules first cousins. Since Ariel is Triton daughter, she is actually Hercules second cousin/niece.

I don't think that Poacahontas had two love interests in the Disney version She didn't want to marry him but that doesn't mean she didn't care about him at the moment when he was hurt
During the time these events take place people weren't living as long as we are now so it was even more important to get married at puberty and start producing heirs.
Anna and Elsa aren't official Disney princesses because essentially they were too successful. They fit all the official criteria to become princesses, however Frozen was much more successful than anyone anticipated, so it basically became its own franchise. Since they already belong to a franchise, they can't be apart of the Disney princesses. So they probably won't ever be added to the lineup, but you never know.
Alright, the comments seem really confused about what exactly is and isn't a Disney princess. As stated in the video, it is a marketing franchise that one doesn't necessarily have to be a princess to be on, although (not stated in the video) that works in reverse. Being royalty does not make you a "Disney Princess." There is an official list on Disney.com. You can check it out here: princess.disney.com or you can just take my word that the official Disney Princesses are Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel and Merida. Many characters thought to be on this list just aren't for multiple reasons. Moana is not a Disney princess, she's too new and just hasn't been made one officially yet. Elena isn't one, despite her coronation at Disneyland, she hasn't been on the list, probably due to her being from a TV show. Anna and Elsa are not on the list, due to their film becoming its own marketed franchise. Before you guys ask, they are definitely talking about "Disney Princesses" as the franchise, because if not, they wouldn't have included the fact about how tinkerbell used to be one and isn't anymore, and they wouldn't include exactly all the princesses they did (besides Elsa and Anna, they messed up there) when they listed their ages. I’m calling bull on the Merida-no-love-interest thing being the first princess to do so. Jasmine spearheaded that when she blatantly refused to be forced into marriage when her sultan father wanted her to and even ran away to stop any forcible unions.
I'm a huge Disney fan but they don't have the balls to do another Pocahontas film in the day and age of "snowflakes, sjw etc". It's a dark story and they didn't even touch upon the true story in the film then so no way would they do it now. Also whoever said it should be live action needs a slap and whoever said angelina Jolie could play Pocahontas seriously needs to lie down, have a nap and rethink their life.
Lol this is a decent list except for number one. Most of their ages are fanmade, since the Princesses' ages are never mentioned in their stories (except for Aurora, Ariel, and Rapunzel). Imo, the other age ranges might be: Snow White: 15-20 Cinderella: 15-25 Belle: 15-25 Jasmine: 14-25 Pocahontas: 18-30 Mulan: 18-25 Tiana: 17-25 Merida: 13-17
I had slightly hopes up for the first fact on Disney princesses ages since actually Kida is the oldest of them all and the first queen of Disney princesses but everyone always seem to forget her. :/

Disney Princesses are a franchise, you can't be a disney princess officially unless you are part of the franchise. Take Alice, Wendy, and, surprisingly, Elsa and Anna
Most of the ages aren't mentioned in their stories. So, they don't know. Other than Aurora, Ariel, and Rapunzel, (16, 16, and 18 respectively), none of the Princesses' ages are ever brought up in the stories, so technically, whereever you find the other ages online is using fanmade info, especially wikis.
Ariel, Jasmine, Aurora, Rapunzel, and Merida's ages were confirmed in their films. Tiana's was confirmed in a tie in book. Belle's age was confirmed in pre-production and it's likely it stayed the same. Cinderella, Snow White, Pocahontas, and Mulan's ages were not confirmed in anyway.
I must admit I really liked this list. Even though I hated that Disney greatly falsified Pocahontas' story it was nice to see what the story represented.
I feel like pocahontas can be understood for what I think it is. a nice disney film based very very loosely on a real life person. I think you can watch and like pocahontas whilst understanding how the real life sad story. as long as people understand that it's fictional and historically inaccurate
I love Merida. The fact that she wants to stay single makes her my favourite. Maybe there could be a sequel one day where she meets somebofy worthy of her. I'd like them to be a commoner rather than a Prince.
I would have made ariels fin and tail blue instead of green. I think it would have looked better to have red hair and a navy or light blue tail ❤️ she looks like a Christmas mermaid with a green tail 🤣 and jasmine looks way older than 15.
