While I'm with you that I like the design, His biggest issue seemed to be the color scheme. Which is a reasonable point to bring up: Why is this giant robot in the jungle painted bright white?

I actually really like the unicorn especially in unicorn mode, it was one first gundams I saw and what got me interested in the series along with the transient (another almost completely white gundam)
I am kind of saddened to see Unicorn Gundam on this list. Oh well everybody can have their opinions. I do have to agree with third place, those three mobile suits are god awful.

Honestly. The unicorn and ez8 part is reasonable. I like the unicorn because of its meaning to the universe. It’s essentially a killing machine not meant to be a killing machine. and the ez8 probably could’ve used a bit more blue

Personally one Gundam I think is ugly would be Strike freedom. I know all the hate it gets but my problem with it is how flashy the suit is. Like who’s attention are you trying to grab? Still it’s great to hear back from you.
What? Ez8 is so good looking I really like how the entire design seems like somekind of cop suit, it reminds me of patlabor as well as the entire suit design is very believable for a mass production unit
Its fine, if it was in an urban environment. The Labors from Patlabor were designed to work there. But you don't wear green camo to an arctic environment, if you catch my drift.
To be honest, I am more of a minimalist myself. Which is why most of the suits I like and/or make are all very slim and generally only have one large cannon or weapon of sort.
hey prof i like the S Gundam's design as its ugly yet functional unlike the Xi and Penelope Gundam that are about to get animations for you to destroy. and arios is nowhere near as bad as other transforming gundams AKA G Arcane. the unicorn series i give exception as i like mechs that sometimes dont show what it is.
Yea, g arcane transformation is simple. But arios uglier than g arcane. This vid is about ugly moblie suit, not about transformation. Even arios wing proportion is kinda non functional. Literally small wing span over long weird plane. And that long shoulder tho

Barry Bend which why the zero two is actually rather logically designed. Carrying a huge payload that will need to launch great distances it needs the additional thrusters to compensate for the additional weight and get some semblance of speed. The shield is also necessary as the heavy shield allows the pilot to protect itself from more incoming attacks since it is slower.
I understand your point, but I think you should have titled this "Ugliest Gundam Animr artwork" On several occasions, you pointed out the proportion etc, well, I agree since most older gundam series had average at best artwork, but in their model kit form, a lot of these look immaculate.
Interesting list. I do agree with the Ez-8; it looks like an unpainted GM to me. I was surprised by the Unicorn though. I do admit when the series first came out I did think it was stupid, especially with the single horn but it eventually grew on me and it's one of my favorite Gundams. Though that may stem from how much I like Unicorn as a series. What's your opinion on the Banshee then?
My top 5 (no particular order) would be the ZZ Gundam, Gundam Gusion (1st variation), Gundam Kimaris, Gundam G-Self and ∀ Gundam. Though thinking about it, the ZZ Gundam is the absolute worst. It's like they took everything likeable away from the Zeta for a tank. And the separate compartments are so inconvenient. I just hate it.
I watch these videos because this guy is a great narrator and is fun to listen to; not to mention all the editing great work with the clips... Having said that, I almost never agree with his opinion. Aegis, Arios and Unicorn are some of my all time favorite gundams.

I understand your taste, but personally I find the deep striker too be a beautiful mecha, if not a beautiful mess, I get that you don’t like over designed stuff but I think it can work if the parts feel like they all have a function.
Yikes, such harshness towards #4. While it is my least favorite of that group of suits, I still like it. The transformed state is also pretty sleek IMO. #1 was a hilarious pick tho. I agree, it's bulky as sin. XD
Interesting take on the Unicorn itself. Tho I do like the Banshee and the Phenex way more more than the original and I do get where you are getting at.
Whenever I see a transforming mech in a Gundam anime, I'm disappointed because the ones in Macross spoiled me. I remember showing my brother the Forbidden Gundam because of how dumb it looks.

An ugly gundam redesign for me would be the Nix Providence. All the dragoons are placed in weird areas and the backpack is placed on the shoulder making so unbalanced.
Honestly this is a very good list I was a little bit worried doing you were going to put some of my favorites there. I almost thought you want to put Zeta or Barberitos in it. Hell I'm almost surprised that you didn't put in Turn A based solely on his design. Happy you didn't though because that's one of my most favorite Gundams
I can't in good conscience put the Turn A on there because its one of my favorite designs for being so out there. But yeah, Zeta isn't bad, Barbatos is pretty good, all told. Now the rest of them...
@@ProfessorOtakuD2 I love quick and fast mobile suit and when I see Kimaris Trooper all I could think about is cavalry. Although I don't like his lance, neither do I like Barbatos's mace and Rebake's scissor(?). It is true that weapon in IBO are complete and utter ridiculous but putting his weapon aside Kimaris Trooper just looked glorious with his simple transformation. Nothing too complicated, no sudden hyperspace jet, just simple booster extension to make him hover for better ground mobility. But I do respect your boldness for stating your opinion with this video, I have my own opinion and you have your's.

And I'll see to your preferences but I still stand by what I said in that many of those Gundams were pretty well-designed it's just that they needed a different color scheme to bring out their best features. I mean the Unicorn Gundam in my opinion is pretty bland looking in solid white but if you add a speck of color here and there then it looks magnificent. Plus the Unicorn Gundam does come in different colors for the cycle frame ranging from gold to Pink to green to blue. And I will look up your videos.

Its inspired from the Lady and the Unicorn tapestry, a piece of art that captures the 5 senses of humans, and the 6th, the ability of understanding. And depicts a white unicorn, Which is represented by Newtypes and the titular mobile suit. I'm not gonna go into it, but I suggest to take a closer look into the show if you think its pushed only for its strength. If you're gonna talk about other things besides looks in a video about looks, then Its pushed not for being powerful alone, but as a symbol of peace. From sound design, its thrusters sound effects are higher pitched sounds that sound like a magical creature and its movements are always silky smooth even when cutting through enemies especially in the earlier episodes, giving it a out of this world vibe. You never see this thing even walk beyond it's one first step, they treat it so sacret that the first time Marida sees it, its gently floating out from the smoke. If you think that doesnt give it more personality that any other gundam then I question your reaonable thinking. The comment of it being used straight out of the drawing board is dumb, it doesnt take a model kit builder to tell it takes alot of well engineering to design it. Both forms have really clear, strong and identifiable silhouettes. The point of it being a big obvious targent is a non-issue because literally every gundam is a big target with all their colors. I dont even know what you're talking about with the kibble thing, theres literally no kibble on the unicorn. The only reasonsble criticism you give is that its glow contrasts badly with the white, which is truthfully understandable despite its red not being that far from another gundams. An easy way to tell contrast is to gray scale an image to see if the values of white and black are identifiable, in this case the unicorn does a decent job in that. If the unicorns design doesnt even interest you then it's not its designs fault, you claim it's boring but it gives you an inspired origin, a unique transformation, themed personality and treatment in sound design and movement. You claim it's just an opinion yet you rag on the designers approach as if its fact. If you're gonna more into just the aesthetics of a suit and into its treatment and you dont even bother to comprehend design intention then, it puts your ability as a critic into question.
All this nattering doesn't address the fact that I think it's UGLY. Its got its reasons, obviously. I just don't like its aesthetic appearance. You got so worked up over thinking that I didn't 'get it' that you failed to realize the context of 'I don't care for the way its designed'. I agreed with nearly everything, but then you pulled up the GP02A....Bruh WHAT!!! That suit was legit! Thought I do have to agree that after it shot its one nuke it was pointless. There should have either been multiple nuke options or another big cannon.

The EZ-8 is a giant white fire-draw that got slagged together with spare parts to try and get Shiro killed because he was a liability to the Fed operations in the area.
My list is obviously different, but the GP-02 is too "easy" to pick on, it was SUPPOSED to be ugly, its supposed to be a corruption of the heroic RX-78 and the whole series is about the corruption of the Federation that leads to the fascist Titans corps rising. Of course its still possible to just personally dislike it too.
I mean, I dislike it because I hate nukes and I think it looks like a big fat clunker, regardless of the visual meaning behind it. But yes, you are correct on that too.
I agree whit the unicorn gundam being in this list because to me the UG normal mode should look like a actual gundam insted of somthing that i will mistakenly thought it was a grunt unit. This is why i spoiled myself and just watch the final two episodes of that anime

I'll concede to Kimaris. Even the kibble comment because it's entirely nonfunctional or even cool. The extra extentions are mods for different scenerios but fuck me if literally other frames in the same series get by without the same cumbersome mods. The color is also horrendous
At least when the Valkyries transform, its usually just a quick flip open or inwards. There's not a huge to-do about it, ya know? They're simple enough designs that I don't feel like its taking years on end to get through their sequence.
