1. Green Beans are rich in soluble fiber. Soluble fiber may help lower LDL or so-called bad cholesterol as well as total cholesterol levels.
2. Avocado contains mono-unsaturated fat which may aid in protecting your cells and keeping them functioning optimally. This can help protect cholesterol from damage.
3. Ginger is rich in antioxidants and studies have shown it can aid in lowering harmful cholesterol and increase good cholesterol.
4. Spinach acts as a bile acid sequestrant. In simple terms this means it aids in binding up bile acids. Bile acids are made by the liver from cholesterol, if they are bound up cholesterol is then used to make more. This reduces the amount of cholesterol in the blood.
5. Onion contains a compound called quercetin. This has been found to help lower cholesterol in rodents fed a high-fat diet.
6. Cauliflower is an excellent source of dietary fiber, which is great for keeping cholesterol healthy
7. Okra has a thick gel-like substance called mucilage which can bind to cholesterol during digestion. This results in cholesterol being excreted in stools rather than absorbed into your body.
8. Aubergine/Eggplant contains an antioxidant called chlorogenic acid, this is believed to help reduce unhealthy levels of LDL cholesterol.
9. Cabbage contains plant sterols. These are the fats that help block cholesterol from absorbing in the intestines.
10. Kale: This vegetable is packed with antioxidants which are beneficial for repairing oxidative damage. Antioxidants are especially vital for keeping your cholesterol healthy and preventing heart disease.

A very useful summary of the SPECIFIC benefits of the vegetables you mentioned. We often hear that 'this vegetable or that vegetable is good for you' but don't really know why.... this video helps fill in a few gaps! Thanks & keep up the good work.

Dear Heart Disease Code. Is it healthy to cook Okra with bicarbonate of soda. In my country we use soda to cook it, putting tomatoes and spices.

There's nothing wrong with cholesterol. Sugar is the most damaging thing in the human body and it can certainly damage cholesterol.

Correct cholesterol in itself is essential for the body, however sugar and other inflammatory foods can damage it which is when it becomes problematic in most cases. We explain this in the video. well, fortunately I learned I have high-ish cholesterol at the end of the summer...So kind of perfect timing for stews, roasted veggies, etc.

It's more about creating health cholesterol, as someone can have low cholesterol but it can be very unhealthy. We have a video coming out on this topic in a couple of weeks, which will give more clarity
