Hello John, thank you for your advice. My name is Jean-Francois I live in Canada Quebec. Thanks to your precious advice I have increased my speed from 77 mph to 83 mph. Even at 40, I can still be competitive with today's young people. Thanks again a thousand times
I've been watching your videos before our season started. I've taken your drills and run them with my team weekly. My team finished regular season 11-4 first place and #1 seed in our tournament. Great videos I appreciate all your help.
Ive made a list of several of the things my 11 year old grandson can improve on from your video to help his velocity so we are going to get to work on them right away. thanks
When it comes to this well thought out video my advice to young pitchers comes from the 80's movie, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High": "Learn it, know it, live it."
Keep up the good work and the videos, I have watched them multiple times and they have really helped me to improve my all around game and hopefully one day you will know my name
Great video! Have you ever thought about making a Top 10 tips on how to improve ball placement/accuracy? I feel like for some of the younger kids, learning how to place the ball consistently is very important rather than having good velocity.
I am working on translation of 9 pitching velocity killers to Korean and another upgrade has come up just now lol Anyway this is sooooooo valuable as always
Awesome! Yeh I tried making the translations available to everyone. Is that what you are talking about? Where you are able to translate this video somehow on my channel? Thank you.
yep, that's exactly what I am doing. I've done by 3/9 and now I'm working 4th. I guess I need to make a request to you to register my work after all is done.
Off topic,,, I watch your victory soles video, and I bought them for my 12yr old son and he was cracking up at how springy & jumpy & faster he felt on the field.
This is for a video for a closer when your a starter you wanna focus on break and control and alittle speed that’s the way I think. Edit:for the people asking no MLB pitchers don’t throw full speed they throw what helps them control and have a sense where the ball will land like control
Do you recommend building muscle during the offseason. Because I'm in high school and during the summer I want to gain muscle but I do not know if that's going to hurt my pitching
Hey John Madden/YouGoPro Baseball its May 19, 2017, and on Sunday, May 21st I have my last Baseball tryout and I'm using wood bats this year and I have a big blister on the bottom section of my pointer finger do you know a way to get rid of them fast because I got the blister May 17th, 2017 and it's not going away. BTW love your videos man keep up the good work.
Ok, I've asked before, so here goes again. I'm 70 years, old/ young whatever, and am the starting pitcher for my team 55+ division. HOW often should I practice throwing/pitching per day or week? I've been doing about 90 per session and most games I pitch 70-130 PC per game for a 3-7 inning, depending on back up position players help. I've pitched as much as 157 for a 9 inning game but next day it was difficult to throw 30-60 feet until later in the game playing 2nd base.
hey I'm a fifteen years old and over the winter break I got a lot more strength and I lost control of my pitching it was so bad I walked 6 people in a game thanks
do you think i could still be a good pitcher im 5'8 and 14 years old and ill probably grow to be 5'10 max. i'm 145 pounds pretty much all muscle. My fastball now is 70-71 miles per hour and i have movement on it
Coach Madden, I'm a high school first baseman and right handed pitcher. It seems that my velocity on the mound at times can be in the upper 70s/low 80s, and as well where it can be in the lower 70s/mid 70s (as so at first base). This past week, I went to a DII baseball camp and the head coach said that I need to really work on arm strength if I want to have a shot to play college ball (either to pitch or play first base). My question to you, is what are good drills/exercises I can do to increase my arm strength?
What type of pitches would be effective for setting up the hitter or even attacking him HIGH in the zone. I rarerly pitch more than 40 trows.I usually attack in-out + adding and subtracting speed with overhand and 3/4 fastballs, 12-6 and 11-5 curves and Split changeup with the odd slider or 2-seamer, knucleball, forkball if they foul everything. I want to start attacking high-low.
Hi John, i always wondered, do mlb pitchers throw as hard as they can, because i throw usually around 80-90% to get the ball where i want it to be. The faster i try the more inaccurate it gets. Greetz from germany
If you throw 100 percent all the time…you’ll never have to worry about varying arm speed(after warming up properly). Vida blue told me that. I wholeheartedly agree. I also believe it promotes gaining the ability to surprise yourself with 110 percent and grips create change in velocity, and arm safety. Having said that that, pitching is all about deception and creating fear in the batters box. Batters used to think I wasn’t right in the head by the end of the game. You gotta have a little bit of crazy in you on the mound, at least it helps
When you say blocking off in number two, do I lose velocity when I sort of pull my glove in my chest? I still stop my rotation, but is it better to stop at the elbow like you did.
Hey John, Im throwing a curveball along with my sinker, but I don't have good command on the curve even tho Im griping it right, can u make a video on how to have better command on your breaking ball, thanks.
It doesn't have much to do with the grip. I'd love to answer this in detail in an Office Hours episode. Would you like to send this question in as a cell phone video to my email and then I'll answer it on RU-vid? Thanks yougoprobaseball at gmail
I’m at a D2 college called IUP in PA, I plan on walking on next year and i’m pretty confident i can do it, i threw a bullpen for the first time in a while a couple weeks ago and maxed out at 87, last year i was only hitting 83 if i was lucky. I mainly throw a 2 seam because i do get good movement on it because i’m a 3/4 arm slot guy, along with that i throw a slider, curve, and circle change. Any advice on how to keep my velo at the spot it is now and maybe even gain? Any advice would help a lot, thank you in advance!
I've always pitched slightly 3/4s but more overhead than sidearm because that's how I was taught, but I noticed when I throw the ball otherwise in fielding I usually have a lower arm angle. I want to try throwing low sidearm and submarine to see if I'd like it better, but I don't know the correct way to do it and no matter how much I watch slow motion submarine pitchers I can't seem to figure out the correct form. Any suggestions?
Hey, you said that you're better off sprinting than doing long distance runs, but I actually do cross country, and I run 3 miles a day, and then I practice pitching. I throw 72 MPH and I'm 14 years old. I don't know if what you said is very true.
