On the metallic pleated skirt issue, I would go with the same color as the metal most prevalent in your jewelry collection. If you prefer gold, and it favors your complexion better, go for the gold skirt because, chances are, you have a warm skintone. If you look better in silver jewelry and you wear cool toned colors in your clothes, opt for the silver skirt. As far as wide-legged jeans and trousers go, I find them very flattering when worn with a slim silhouette on top, and I own several pairs.
I love pleated skirts I’ve been wearing them for years. I feel the they’re a timeless classic! I have mine in black almost a leather like material. Always looks chic whether with a sweater in the fall or winter or a silk tank in the summer, always flattering and classic. They work with my loafers or my high heel pointed toe boots or sneakers for a casual look. As far as the colour choice I’d go with gold, so much warmer and I think for your skin tone it would be perfection! ❤😊
Love wide-legged pants, been wearing them for years already. I'm tall, have long legs, and 11 inch difference between waist and hips, so for me it is the ultimate cut. Plus it has that 40's Katherine Hepburn feel. I was worried that the fashion deities would make them go away this year so I'm glad I can still purchase them!

I’m 64 and I just bought a pair of black wide leg jeans. I showed my husband, and he told me they were dragging on the ground. I tried them on with my slippers. I was wondering if I looked huge in them. He’s smart enough to not mention that. I just got my haircut short the other day. So I don’t normally wear big earrings. I have some gold studs in. I did have some small diamonds in my second hole. I had my granddaughter help me put them in. I hadn’t worn any earrings in the second hole for a while. She got them right in. I might try something a little bigger. I have a lot of earrings.
Praying for a swift return to health for you Leonie, and that all of it was removed We haven’t had nearly enough summer this year - it took a long time to warm up, and now, beginning of August, it’s autumnal weather again. Just about ok for bare legs, long maxi and sneakers. Plus the long trench coat to protect from downpours. I took a while to convince and now I’m so happy to have it. That and my plain leather sneakers are my two faves that I initially heard about on your channel. The black maxi will go beautifully with a white button down or long sleeve striped t-shirt. I’m now wearing it with a striped sleeveless tee. Love your channel.
I love wide leg trousers for work. So comfortable! I've got winter weight, spring weight and linen ones for summer. I get plenty of compliments on them as well
Cupro is pronounced Cup Row in the videos I have seen. It is a called a semi-synthetic. Like rayon, it starts with plant matter, but the chemicals used to make are into fabric are toxic. Copper, caustic soda, and Ammonia. It could be produced in a closed system, but I haven't been able to verify that it is being done that way.
I’m sorry to hear about your skin cancer. We have this in my family, too (squamous type). I always tried to stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen and/protective clothing after I got a terrible sunburn at age 14 or so. I didn’t mean to, I just wanted a few minutes of lying in the sun, but fell deeply asleep, it was that time of month, for many hours. I’ve always regretted that. It was a big, important thing to get tanned when I was a child, teen and young adult, but I stopped trying after that burn and covered up instead. My skin looks pretty good now, in my sixties, but I wish I had protected it even more. Of course, even one sunburn in a lifetime increases the risk of skin cancer exponentially. My father constantly needs skin cancers removed, one time they took and enormous chunk of his arm, right down to the bone. Imagine having to get that done on one’s face! Tanning is just not worth the risk and fake tanning always looks weird. Yes, I’m super-white and pale, but I accept that now, it’s others that criticize me for it. When people say “why don’t you get a tan?”, I ignore them.
Yes mine is a squamous cell carcinoma and I need to go and get more removed to get all of the margins apparently. So it looks like I'll be back in the next week or so - arrgghhh :(
I fully agree with you on that. I don't tan I only get sun burns and i try to avoid that as much as possible. The other day my mother told me not to wear a pair of shorts because my legs are 'too white'. I told her that my white legs are a part of me and I don't care. She accepted that and I wore the shorts. As you said, it doesn't bother me, it bothers other people for some reason.
Cupro has been available to us sewists for a few years but isn't always presented as with a satin finish. Its a great fabric. Pronouced like chicken coup.
I love tailored pants, but not so much the wide-leg versions. I have some in linen and for the fall/winter I have some wool options. They are so classic looking. You can dress them up and dress them down. I also like a little of the preppy look. Great video.
Preppy is my classic style and I am wearing an argyle sweater with a black and white stripe blouse underneath the sweater. So, I am 5/10 and slim and a preppy/classic style is what I always wear.

I know that they’re expected to appear in August, but I’m still enjoying the summer and I’m not ready to look seriously at fall fashion yet. But I so respect your opinion and enjoy your videos, so here I am. I’m happy to see that you highlighted a lot of classics in your look at fall trends. I love tailoring, enjoy a lot of preppy elements (argyle is one of my favorite patterns), so I can definitely shop my closet this fall, which I already plan to do. Wishing you good health. Just love wide leg tailored trousers (high waisted) and have worn them for over a decade before they were main stream fashionable. I have them in linen, silk and wool. So sorted for every season, and they can be dressed up or down.

Satin is a weave, not a material. You can have silk satin, cotton satin, satin from pulp derivatives like viscose and cupro... And the cheap polyester satin that usually looks like crap.
People really need to learn this, if a garment only says “satin”, it’s polyester. Price is a good, but not infallible guide, also. A skirt for $19.99 isn’t going to be made of silk. Silk satin, always, for me! I tried rayon/viscose satins, but they didn’t look good after (or without) ironing. Polyester does not exist in my wardrobe, I need high-quality, breathable, natural fibers. There’s no excuse for buying polyester, Quince offers fabulous silk ones in many colors for only $60 US! Many polyester ones cost more, Ralph Lauren had one listed for $400 last autumn. They halved the price, but still it was outrageous. It was exactly what I had been looking for, except for the composition, but I held out for silk.🙂
I go for silk > satin because I’m old, have back fat, and sweat. There it is. I’d rather have 3 shirts instead of 10 and feel good about myself wearing them :) love that you exposed the difficulties of satin.
I love preppy style and I love wide leg trousers. I prefer the silver skirt to the gold one but I think you should get both. I think you might kick yourself if you don't and then they go out of stock. And its always good to get them right at the start of the trend so you get maximum use out of them. And theyre not too badly priced either. As they are Frankie Shop I expected them to be super expensive.

And hope your skin cancer wound heals quickly. Im a couple of years older than you and grew up in Australia. I remember going to the Beach for 8-hours like it was nothing, wearing Hawaiian tropic tanning oul. It makes me feel sick thinking about it. I have had basal cells removed from my face and had ablative laser to reduce the likelihood of getting more. Wish I had known the impact of sun damage that really shows up during meno and liss of estrogen!! ❤❤
Thanks so much for the video, Leonie - I love the wide leg pant trend, and tried to find some last year, in my local shops, without much success. I finally bought a pair of washed black, wide-leg pants with small cargo pockets on the side, at a giant craft fair. I get compliments every time I wear them, and they're so comfortable. I ordered a pair of wide-leg trouser jeans, also, from a company in New York called Saint Art. I loved the quality, but they're too small, and I've had trouble contacting them for returns. I'm really happy about this trend away from skinny jeans!
I have a gold pleated maxi & I love her!!! But I would definitely like a silver one! I have a pinky silvery denim skirt too which I love. Never been into wide leg pants (because I am 5”4) but I have jumped on board the trend. They are comfy & easy to wear. I have linen ones.
Great Video! I bought the silver pleated skirt. I am 5’3 and it went to my ankles. I had trouble styling it I even bought the silver boots a top other than gray looked weird. I know Karen has both skirts. I gave mine away I just wasn’t comfortable. It is one size and if you are bigger than a 6 it won’t fit. I have a 26 inch waist. You look great in everything and I am sure you will love the skirts. Probably cause I wear black all the time so that could be why. I hope this helps! Frankie Shop cropped denim jacket is fabulous! Bought two pairs of wide-legged tailored pants this year, all high-waisted, all budget-friendly. Two in linen (ivory and rust) and two (taupe and brown) in a synthetic that looks pretty good. I've worn the linen pants to death, thanks to the hot weather. (I also own several pairs of wide-legged jeans) I'm not sure I will love them when it snows because they look better longer than shorter, and with a tall wedge or block heel. Can't have them dragging in the Canadian slush.

Since I am only 5’2” I can wear tailored slacks but not wide leg. They are not made for short folks. Prefer the silver over the gold. Gold is Fri my and can look cheap
I love Cupro so much. Sadly there are not many options available currently. I hope it gets the hype it deserves finally, so fashion companies using it more often in the future.
I see a lot of “airflow” tops and bottoms in the shops. It has a sheen but not high shine like satin. It is thin but has a drape. I guess the name suggests the fabric is not clammy. However it gets very sloppy looking after a washing. It wrinkles easily. I thought it’d be a good alternative to shiny satin. After trying on a few pieces I changed my mind.
I love the look of tailored wide leg pants (in cream or beige). It reminds me of the seventies wide leg pants and jeans, so I bought a nice pair that was fairly expensive. Sadly, I'm not very tall (5'2"), and the wide leg pants just made me look shorter and dumpier. I think you need to be at least 5'4" to suit this look.
Not if you add some heels or platforms. Give it a try and you'll feel fine in your wide leg pants. 😉 I'm 5'6" and I go for kitten heels or low platforms otherwise I go up to 5'9"! 😳
Hi Leonie: You definitely have a winter complexion (top in your bathroom looks great on you) so go for SILVER! JCrew is selling a lot of Cupro garments. I bought a patterned shirt that I really like. The white shirt never dies and you can find the classic pattern cropped; a nice trendy twist. Denim doesn't either. It will always be a fashion staple and the classic style jacket is actually a bit cropped. Love wide leg pants in many fabrics, and pleated maxi skirts in silky fabrics. And the sweater dress is more flattering to different body types when waist is higher, Princess style, defining the bust area. Thanks for a great style video!
I tried wide leg pants in Red from H&M. (Went a size up). I paired them with a black knit turtleneck, with half sleeves. Of course I'm short so I wore platforms and went to a show at the beach. My sister-in-law is a fashionista and she wanted them as well. Of course they were sold out by then. As time went on, I looked wide leg pants in a beige color from H&M. I'm waiting for them to arrive now. I"m 5'2" and the red ones flow nicely, I can't explain it. Perhaps similar to a maxi skirt look. High waisted, a nice fit at my waistline. I’ve always loved classic and preppy/academic styles since university in the 80s, this is what we wore. These aren’t trends to me, but make up the backbone of my wardrobe. Preppy isn’t just “BlairWaldorf” (from a movie)? plaid mini-skirts, those naughty schoolgirl looks have been done to death! I agree, knits are a great way to incorporate this style element, as are pleated skirts, classic trousers or blazers. To avoid looking costumey, I wear one item from this style, not entire outfits. A striped, collared knit “polo” sweater or top and white jeans is a good example. I love tops and sweaters with a classic, triangular, pointed collar, they give structure and frame the face. (Here in the US, collared knits are called polo shirts or polo sweaters, unlike in the UK and other countries, where polo is used for our “turtleneck”. I’ve also seen brands call them “Johnny collars”, a newly invented and unnecessary term. We’re both wrong, the original polo shirt was actually just a shirt with a button-down collar).
I really appreciate how you keep your videos content coinciding with other parts of the world season. See there was nothing about sunscreen growing up, it was just baby oil (to glow) and go. Black don't crack is a LIE! Hope that the doctors got all of it and no more pop up. Yea, I guess August is the time to start thinking on getting the kids ready to return to school. And also what in our summer wardrobe that can transition into the colder months. I am crazy over long pleated skirts because in plaids or black or white/cream they are such an aristocratic look but in unexpected colors they are just fun. If you can comfortably afford both, go for it. Leonie you been wanting to chop crop a denim jacket for a while now but that last one I came in for the save because it was too nice of a good one to go being cut. I look forward to going with you for the hunt for a good, thrifted candidate for a crop jacket. I always have had long sleeves tee style shirts (some are 20 yrs old or older, that speaks on the quality back then) because they provide more protection but are still lightweight and a great layering basic. I never left the wide leg pants because being 5'4, Iike that with a high heel they make my legs look long, which slims out the whole look (I have tons of them for all season from linen to the thickest of wools). I have thrifted some shorter lengths wide legs so I can wear my flat sandals or loafer/oxfords without damaging the hem. Thanks for sharing and ta ta for now!
