Can someone please explain to me why Chris Brown is still popular? Seriously of all the popular music acts from the mid 2000s across all genres why was he one of the very few with actual staying power?
Oh yeah alot of genres definitely. I mean, you'll find some gold amongst the rubbish. But it's not that easy, however, and I don't want to come off as bias, but I find more metal and hard rock albums covers to absolutely triumph when it comes to album artwork
I think alternative pop (that I've listened to) has been pretty good. Lana Del Rey's NFR, Lorde's Melodrama, and Melanie Martinez's Cry Baby all have artistic and meaningful designs, to name a few
I feel some simple ones work though like BMTH’s That’s The Spirit. I thought it was crap at first (especially compared to Sempiternal), but now I really like the logo, it just screams ‘hoodie/T-shirt design’ but in a good way.
What's more amusing than the bad covers is your hilarious descriptions of them! Also, the Twilight Sad cover looks like an homage to Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge's cover
Okey, i am NOT a fan of ajr's music at all, but i absoluttley love the art style of their album covers. And dinosaur pile-up's cover, i dont know if i hate it or love it, it definitly fit the music. But its wired but i kinda love it.
Not that it excuses the bad album art (or forgettable album) in anyway but I sort of empathise with Avril. She’s been locked out her career for a long time thanks to Lyme disease and I think she’s trying to make up for that. She’s not doing it particularly well and needs to work with better people but I will cut her a little slack. Head Above Water was a decent song but the rest of the album was forgettable. I was thinking of my top albums of the year and forgot she actually released anything.
I can see what you’re saying with the Regrettes cover, but I like the logo. The cover overall is underwhelming, but the How Do You Love logo is pretty cool. I’m wearing a pin of it right now actually
My biggest problem with Head Above Water is the mixing, the vocals and instrumentals on most songs sound like they belong to 2 completely different tracks and while I can respect that it uses guitars, it used them in the same way that a song like Toxic by Britney Spears or Lucid Dreams by Juice WRLD (RIP) uses them. Meaning that while there are guitars being played on pretty much every song on the album, there clearly isn’t a heavy emphasis on them in the mix at all, they’re just kind of there and they’re buried underneath all the non-instruments
I really don’t like the Harry Styles cover. Edit: I didn’t even know Lewis Capaldi had an album. He is DEFINITELY “divinely uninspired to a hellish extent”. Awful uninspired music.

Baroness, Swallow the Sun, Mizmor, Opeth, Cattle Decapitation, Fit for an Autopsy, Wilderun, Knocked Loose, Witch Vomit, Children of Bodom, Contrarian, Venom Prison, After the Burial, False, Infant Annihilator are all my favorite album arts
I actually liked the Papa Roach album and wondered why it was compared to those other three... until I did a Google and found out the quality REALLY was that bad. Btw I meant the cover, not the album itself, I hate it
Same. The cover kinda matched the singles but the rest of the album didn't match at all. Similar to how the every non single song was surprisingly good but most of the singles sucked.
#dearjon what are ur thoughts on simple photoshoot photos as album covers? (ex. ariana grande's sweetener) you touched on roc's pony cover but i was wondering if ur thoughts go farther than it just being underwhelming/boring. in the case of the sweetener i thought it was kind of strange because the cd booklet actually has really nice edited concepts that fit the album better than the official cover art.
It would be weird if it wasn't. Destroying a nice guitar just to do an album picture would be kind of a waist. And if the photographer took too long to shoot it, the wood on the bottom would already look terrible.

Both king gizzard album covers are quite fantastic, some of my favorites of the year. Gotta agree with morbid stuff though after thinking about it, it’s so perfect
I'd say that the album cover for _Sunshine Kitty_ isn't nearly as good as all of Tove's previous album covers, but I think it "fits" the sound of the album (I really can't explain it). One thing that annoys me about it, however, is the fact that almost no good quality version of it without that goddamn parental advisory sticker exists. Chris Brown's new album cover is definitely one of his worst. The cover for La Dispute's _Panorama_ looks very similar to an Imagine Dragons cover!
I agreed with a lot of what you said but I actually like the regerettes album cover for How Do You Love? I think it was cute. I also thought the Sleeping With Sirens album cover was cool too.
Some great album covers in my opinion were: Klone - Le Grand Voyage Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Ghosteen Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas Seer - Vol. 6 Shadow of Intent - Melancholy Spirit Adrift - Divided By Darkness Swallow the Sun - When A Shadow Is Forced Into the Light Tyr - Hel Korn - The Nothing Infant Annihilator - The Battle of Yaldabaoth Kampfar - Ofidians Manifest Baroness - Gold and Grey Tomb Mold - Planetary Clairvoyance I also loved the cover for the Joker soundtrack. I'm not sure if that counts though. For the worst cover, I haven't seen many all year, but Flotsam and Jetsam's The End of Chaos and DIIV's Deceiver have pretty terrible album covers.
The album art of Titanic Rising is probably the main thing that made me check out the album because it's such a gorgeous cover. (Plus art pop is one of my favorite genres in recent years) I also really like the cover of Animated Violence Mild
not sure which is the worst album cover of 2019 but I know which one is going to be the worst of 2020, FOAM!!! I can tell you right now, there is nothing coming this year worst than that monstrosity, and we are only in January.
Avril Lavigne blows up in 2002 Indie chick Liz Phair copies her style in 2003 with an album cover featuring herself nude and censored by a guitar Avril Lavigne does this in 2019 If she makes really good music again but about her sex life, we shall come full circle.
I actually don't think that Rex Orange County's Pony album art is that bad - I kinda like the minimalist approach to it tbh. Everything Not Saved will Be Lost, Parts 1 and 2 by Foals both have really good album art and are really deserving of best album art imo.
Stands for album review TV. ARTV is basically Jon's main channel, mostly does song/album reviews and lists, and Beyond ARTV is the second channel where he does extra stuff, like 7 on Sunday.
ARTV doesn’t stand for anything. Like 6 years ago it stood for albumreviewtv but that’s long gone, i just kept the letters from it. ARTV is for more produced/scripted/polished content and BeyondARTV is generally for more simple ideas

I actually agree that the haw art was not that good I made a custom cd of that album using the single artwork for the song haw which looked way better.
@1039ChristieRdStan I actually need to make a updated one because I finished the inside part with some haw tour artwork like that was on the posters and such
