It isn’t necessarily bad, but I found the pray for the wicked cover to be disappointing. When I first heard that’s what the album was gonna be called I was excited and imagined a cool kinda old-ish style/wicked/religious/but still panic! cover but instead all we got was Brendon on a building?

The 30 seconds to mars one is like if Radiohead's hail to the thief album cover had no actual artistic value

As a guy who doesn't follow muse, when I first saw the simulation theory album cover I thought it was a movie poster for Ready Player One lol

As a graphic designer, I totally get what the 1975 was getting at. The themes of the album work perfectly with the whole campaign making it look cold, robotic, almost disconnected, which I can relate to the songs and modernity, the posters were my absolute favorite with the choice of only using typography to create such dynamic compositions.

I think a few honorable mentions for some of the best covers could be: Origins - Imagine Dragons Trench - Twenty One Pilots Queen - Nicki Minaj (I don't care that much for the album, but I still liked the cover) Kamikaze - Eminem Egypt Station - Paul McCartney Evolution - Disturbed Oxnard - Anderson.Paak The Elle King album that came out this year, I forget the name Pray For The Wicked - Panic! at the Disco Sound Glory Prep - Jon Bellion Lake Effect Kid - Fallout Boy (It's an EP, not an album, I know, but I still really liked the cover) Lush - Snail Mail Also, a few more dishonorable mentions to me: Invasion of Privacy - Cardi B Total Xanarchy - Lil' Xan Day 69 (ESPECIALLY the standard edition) - 6ix9ine ? Album - XXXTENTACION (sorry this guy died, but this album cover still sucks) Christmas is Here! - Pentatonix (I really like Pentatonix, but this cover was just kind of boring and felt kind of rushed)

idk I kinda liked the beerbongs & Bentleys packaging. yeah it's stupid that the digital version is just a picture of the physical cd, but in person the album's packaging is really nice

Personally think the Shinedown Artwork is fine. Very simple but not TOO simple.

I think one of my favorite covers this year was Senses Fail's "If there is Light, it will find you". Really caught my attention on spotify and the album itself is great and the imagery fits the lyrical content a lot :)

My favourite album cover of 2018 is Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino. I LOVE the futuristic artwork and esthetic that the Arctic Monkeys had done on this record and the music videos as well.

Skinny Dipping by Stand Atlantic is definitely my favorite album art of the year. Its just so aesthetically appealing and all the elements work so well

The Simulation Theory album cover perfectly sums up the album. They took a very cyberpunk/retrowave approach. The album cover is ALL cyberpunk, and I love it myself, even though everyone is suddenly jumping on that bandwagon, when the cyberpunk genre has gone under the radar for so long.

I honestly love the 1975 cover.

can you imagine if the white album came out this year, the difference between the obvious amazing music and it's lazy album art would be staggering, I love the white album but you have to admit the cover art wasn't even an afterthought with it, any band who have (insert color here) album and the artwork is just that with nothing at all except the color are definitely a little too confident in the music on the album

I don't hate the astroworld album cover either tbh. It kinda reminds me of that bowsers castle track from Mario kart wii. I'd love for someone to make it a custom track in CTGP, where you drive into the golden tractor scoot head.

Anything to glorify Chvrches and Kacey Musgraves and bash Owl City And 30STM LOL pleasantly surprised to see muse at #1 though on the best list

As much as I respect with your brief inquiry place on the worst list, I disagree. yes the album cover simple and kinda plain i do think the gatefold of the record and innersleeves are pretty awesome (if you have the album on vinyl)

I've said Thread by Red Sun Rising is the most underrated album of year many times, but even the album cover I absolutely love. It has a very creative, cartoony, and spring aesthetic.

Kacey's Golden Hour album cover is just so mesmerizing, I don't know how to explain it, but I try to listen to the whole album and look at the cover at the same time and it transports me into this psychedelic, cathardic, ethereal place, the way the sun just seems to scatter as it bounced off the fan she was holding and you can see an astro projection of kacey behind, it's just sums up the psychedelic vibe I've been getting from the album, and also the fact that she's some what hiding behind the fan and you can hear this piano keys sounds across the album gives me this sneeky vibe

Agreed, sometimes the simple choice is better, I love The Aces and Kacey Musgraves are beautiful

If I don't see Prequelle by Ghost on this list I'mma be surprised. The art on that album is breathtaking. There exists a high res image of it where you zoom in and can fully see all the details and it's so fucking spectacular Edit: so it wasn't on the best list but it's all his opinion. I just really love all the detail and work that went into the Ghost cover

I'm very happy that 30stm wasn't only #1, but also mentioned at #4 ... Rest In Peace a former legendary alt-rock band that has now become mainstream pop garbage

What about the lifes a trip album cover?

art is subjective etc etc but a bunch of the covers on the worst list & dishonorable mentions actually look better to me than some of the ones on the best list...

One of the best album covers of the year is Together Through Time by Tupperware Remix Party. It's beautiful, simple, yet pulls me in. Along with that is Belmont by Belmont. It's amazingly well painted and pops out.

I was too focused on the covers to notice that he’s wearing a Parks and Rec shirt.

I love the dishonorable mentions in the second section where there is a distorted guitar between the picks. It seems cooler than the first background sound as that one is more sad.

I really liked this video, I think it's something you should do every year. 😊 I laughed out loud when you showed the "still run" by wet album cover in the dishonorable mentions. I've never even heard that band, but I just happened to come across the album cover and thought it was the worst I've ever seen.

two underrated australian pop punk bands had awesome records with equally pretty album art in 2018: tonight alive's "underworld", and with confidence's "love & loathing". there's also: palaye royale - "boom boom room side b" twenty one pilots - "trench" waterparks - "entertainment"

The person who did the Simulation Theory album cover also did the original poster art for Stranger Things, so you can probably see the influence. They definitely chose a talented artist to work on it.

Where's the album cover of Origins by Imagine Dragons? While their music isn't the best, they always go all out in their album covers.

I know you really don't cover metal that much outside of shitting on FFDP (which is always welcome), but Horrendous - Idol, Irreversible Mechanism - Immersion, and Imperial Triumphant - Vile Luxury are my personal favorites this year. Definitely worth checking out just for the sake of art appreciation.
