Goombario? Really? Everyone knows that he and Bow are some of the most broken characters ever. Charge and Multibonk are broken.
@bluetoad6848
@bluetoad6848 4 года назад
Lol, Goombario is pretty trash. His multibonk ability overlaps with Mario's jumping ability, except that Mario's is much better, as Mario can equip a badge that allows him to jump on spiky enemies, while Goombario doesn't get that ability. Mario can also charge as well, and can use more badges to his advantage, compared to his partners. Also there's a badge that reveals the enemy's HP, which trivializes Goombario's tattle ability, and to top it all off, his multibonk has a bug where after the 1st multibonk used in battle, its cap is set to an extremely low number, usually 3 or lower, for the remainder of battle. Meaning after the first multibonk, you can only get like 3 successful jumps before the game stops you if you decide to use it again. This cap mainly applies to bosses encounters though. So you're better off just using Mario's charge ability and power bounce, while using another partner for support.
@LittleAl016
@LittleAl016 4 года назад
@@bluetoad6848 Useful abilities are still useful even with overshadowing considered. And Tattle does account for when the Peekaboo Badge doesn't exist, and for when the player thinks that the 3 BP needed to equip it is better suited elsewhere.
@bluetoad6848
@bluetoad6848 4 года назад
@@LittleAl016 I mean, if his abilities are completely overshadowed by another, then that kinda means that he is bad. That's what make some bad party members bad, their abilities being completely outclassed by another character's abilities. In this case, his abilities are completely outclassed by the main character, so his utility drops severely once you get more badges and partners. I guess tattle can be considered useful, but even then, you're still wasting a turn using it, and once you use it, most will just immediately swap him out for someone better.
@LittleAl016

I agree. I will never understand why Sharla is always classified as the most useless member of the team. While her attack stats aren't amazing, her high number of healing abilities were a godsend most of the time. She 100% is! The problem is she needs to be used by the player - and you gotta be really good with her. Someone who's really good with Judith will juggle enemies relentlessly and won't evne give them a chance to fight back. The problem is? Getting TO that level is really difficult. It requires more practice than most players are willing to put in And the AI's not very good with controlling her at all.

@@chadmancillas8506 I never really meant to imply that she was bad - she is broken, but in your favour. The game doesn't know what to do if they're trapped in an aerial combo, and if Judith is constantly jumping up and down, she can run circles around the enemies and practically solo bosses. But, the thing is - you need to be the one controlling her. The AI is quite smart with some characters like Raven who knows to keep his distance when the enemy's on the loose, but will perform hit-and-runs when you combo them. Judith? Nope. The game just does not know how to handle her - not only because the AI cant' get her down, but because the AI doesn't know how to KEEP her up. She's only bad in the sense that, yeah, you need to really commit to practicing and using her. And a lot of players won't really take the effort to do it - because you get quicker results from just mastering Yuri (or Flynn), while swapping to Rita to make her say "I am SO gonna make you-Blah Blah Blah. Regal and Colette can just normal combo -> spell cancel -> Repeat until forced down/Overlimit, eliminating the TP issues. and that's not even counting the shit you can pull in the Gamecube version of Symphonia like the proxy glitch letting Raine use Sheena's summons off of her much higher magic attack.

Boney has the ability to check weaknesses, remove shields with a certain item you find... but his major advantage is that he is the one consistently dealing damage. The scrolling health in that game is an important feature... and having 2 mages with the ability to heal and attack while another melee fighter with debuffs actually puts Boney in an important position. Via Lucas, Kumatora, and Duster you'll be buffing/debuff/healing in the early phases of bosses or in fights in general... Boney will be dealing damage. Not to mention without Boney it discourages buffing up everyone's attack as now only Duster benefits. This means without Boney Duster's tools become worthless... and any offensive buffs do. He is literally the key unit to keep the balance in the game, without him... you have no one. Less health. Less inventory slots. You're no longer damaging enemies in the first turns of boss fights so you won't feel like you're making progress if you do buff/debuff. Also if I recall correctly didn't Goombario get a multi-hitting attack which is traditionally super powerful in PM games? I think it was bugged though on bosses so after the first use on a specific boss any other uses on the same boss would instantly end completely killing him.

I just finished Tales of Vesperia last week and have to disagree with you about Judith being useless. She's not the best to control, but set her on AI and her many aerial abilities are priceless due to the great number of flying enemies in the game. Most of the physical attackers in Vesperia suffer from a lack of attack that can successfully hit airborne enemies, and that is the area Judith excels at most. She ended up being in my party for most of the game once I experienced how easily she dispatched flyers.

One character I expect to see on here later at some point is Rosch from Radiant Historia. This game, for context, mostly takes place in two different timelines: the Standard History and the Alternate History. Rosch... is almost completely unavailable in the Standard History, and he goes missing a lot even in the Alternate History. He's not like Aht, or especially like Raynie and Marco which you'll always have access to. So, what can he do when you have him? Eh, not too much. He can move enemies in 3 directions, which is nice, but Stocke, Marco, and Gafka are better movers. He also has the dubious distinction of not having any magic to speak of, which hurts for a few reasons. Not only does magic typically outperform physical in this game, but this game rewards combos, which you can increase faster by alternating between magic and physical hits. That means that, if you're on Rosch's turn and a physical hit came up previously, you have to switch if you want to do a magic hit, which leaves him open to a crit. Marco also has this issue at first, but Trans Turn means that he can just pass the ball to someone else to do the spellcasting on his turn without the vulnerability of the Switch command. Edit: What makes Rosch stick out like a sore thumb even worse is that there's already a character who can do what he does, but better, and that's Gafka. Gafka is available more often, has better damage, better movement ability, and better speed, meaning that Gafka's turn economy is better. Rosch's selling point is that he's durable, but imo it's not worth it.

Sharla's definitely the worst character, but her damage is actually really decent if you're using her properly - Electric Plus and Ether gems, upgrade Thunder Bullet, slot all her offensive arts + Drive Boost instead of a bunch of redundant situational support crap when you really just need the direct heals, etc. She's not jaw-droppingly awesome, but people overspecialize the poor gal because "she's a healer" and create a self-fulfilling prophecy where she's got literally zero damage. Sharla's burst damage is very solid and her AI is pretty competent at executing it, unlike say, Melia. Yeah though, for the most* part Xenoblade just doesn't need the kind of crazy healing output she provides even if her damage deficit gets overstated. Still, I'd argue if you're not going to *play* Melia or Shulk yourself, Sharla makes a more competent party member than both due to their extremely broken AIs, even if she's at the bottom as a main. No matter what you do, you've gotta place two characters in the hands of the computer, among which only Seven, Dunban and Sharla (plus Reyn as a pure tank; he doesn't know how to use his damage build) are programmed decently. +1 for Kongol and Nina 3 though, the latter's definitely the weakest Nina. Judith feels screwed by her AI; she's super powerful yet tricky even for players to use, but if you're penalizing her for that, then you kind of have to knock Melia, who is easily as bad or worse on AI.

Nina is great in Breath of Fire 3. She has tons of MP and lots of multi-target spells, so she's perfect for speeding through dungeons -- most enemies in this game have elemental weaknesses, and you don't need to ration her MP because you're going to switch to Momo as your mage for the boss fights anyway. Nina's no boss-killer, but she makes the long, grindy dungeons of BoF3 way less of a pain. The actual useless Nina? That would be the Nina of BoF2 -- who is completely outclassed in every way by Blue as soon as she is unlocked. Once the snake-lady is in your party you have no reason to use Nina ever again.

"You should just replace Nina wholesale with Momo." I'm wholly disagreeing with you on this. In fact Momo is far worse then Nina. Here is why, in terms of magic she has healing (which is garbage. You'd be better off using items than magic for healing). Ryu out classes her with healing by far. She has one attack magic spell (quake) that is useless against any fliers. Nina has far more options for attack magic in general and as you noted you can give Nina more spells from the master system and boost the crap out of her stats while at it. Physical damage? Yes Momo does more damage per attack than Nina...BUT MOMO NEVER HITS!!! This is the most infuriating thing about her. She does great damage but she's as accurate as a Stormtrooper! Even with using the one master that boosts you accuracy and use items to help she still hits about 1/3 of the time! Nina may not do much damage when she hits but at least she does hit! And if you do a little damage but hit fairly regularly it better then having the the ability to do big damage but never hit. Lastly Momo does not have much more HP than Nina either so really on the end Nina is a better character than Momo.

Also with Sharla, you have her "gimmick" (and ranty explanation of it in this comment) Each Art she uses increases her rifle's temperature which increases the damage of her non-healing arts, while making the healing ones less effective. To counter this, her Talent Art is always available, which allows her to manually vent the rifle. However, if you (or more often the AI) don't manually vent and the talent art gauge fills up fully then she does a long animation of venting which hurts her DPS, especially if she has to vent as you do a chain attack. Which segues nicely into: Her chain attack potential isn't that good, as he DPS is quite low as the archetypal healer goes, but she doesn't have that much of a variety of arts with which to increase the damage multiplier.

He has the highest scalings of strength/magic with his overdrives out of any of the other characters, just gotta build up one or the other and know which blue magic uses which stat. Like, take Kimahri on Auron's path. He'll do auron's job, but better. Auron has BARELY any more strength than base kimahri, but Kimahri will have significantly better defense,speed s that he can attack more often. Same putting him down Rikku's path in the reverse. He'll not be as fast, but he'll still do more damage because he has that much more base strength than her, but you'll hardly notice there is an actual speed difference between the two. The other advantage is Kimahri has access to better weapons than your other party members earlier in the game such as Horn of the ronso to boost his strength stat far higher than the other party members if you made him go down Wakka/Auron/Tidus route or the mid-game evade and counter lance.

Judith is good idk what you're talking about. Her aerial artes are not that hard to experiment with and utilize. It's the same with any character in that game and any Tales game; you experiment and try to maximize their potential with certain and specific setups, and with that you definitely did not try enough with Judith. As with Kimahri, you definitely did not utilize him fully. He's a great mage and attacker and doesn't really matter what you put him through. He's a great "second" Auron if you get him the break moves, and then move into Wakka's path. In the end everyone starts branching out, and Kimahri has that headstart and almost surpasses everyone by midgame if you know how to move him around the sphere(before meta game and with the teleport, friend, and return spheres you obtain through main game). The reason for blue magic being an overdrive is because how OP it can get if it were regular magic(white wind, mighty guard spam anyone?), not only that the purpose of the sphere grid is so that everyone can learn commands; blue magic was exclusive to Kimahri, thus it is an overdrive move, otherwise we'd have everyone having the ability to utilize blue magic and spam white wind and mighty guard.

While I can't speak for anyone else, Judith is like Regal from Symphonia: she combos well while airborne. While she isn't a "mindless button-mash drone" as you said she is, she's still one of the more difficult characters to figure out how to use well; this is partly because she has skills that you can have her equip that make it easier to utilize her strengths. Having said that, I think he illustrated the problem with her quite well: because of the way her artes work, it's not easy to figure out how to use her the her fullest; this is something that tends to make people shy away from using certain characters, and as far as I'm aware, she is a character that most people don't bother to use much because of this. And while I'm certain she's quite satisfying to use once you're able to get the hang of how she plays, from what I can tell, that's the only benefit to using her over anyone else at all, if you can even call it that.

To kimarhi's defense, he does get a a glorious Armlet with Fire, Thunder, & Ice elemental resists. This makes him a great elemental damage sponge, so I put him on Tidus's sphere grid just for Haste, then on Auron's sphere grid. Wasn't as strong as Auron, but he offered much greater utility. Besides, I really like having an insurance against Seymour Flux or those tough Bosses in the story. Judith - Eh, never played Tales of Hearts. If there is one thing I find controller shattering about Vesperia, why do we have to grind so much just to get the weapons that enable the characters to learn new arte? And then we have to use said arte 100 (with physical ones) or 50 (with magical ones) times before it's learned forever? The payoff is worth it, but some characters like Karol, legit are garbage if you don't grind for his altered artes. Having characters that are bad without the grind is a giant middle-finger to the players. Massimo - The elemental weaknesses REALLY suck for him. His high hp is completely mitigated by characters like cinnamon who can heal. Spider & Axel's Overdrive make them immune to damage during its activation. Items even outclass him. Goombario - At least he's funny. Charge + Multibonk does some of the highest damage for a partner, but he is one-dimensional.

Kimahri's base speed advantage over Auron had you just put him down Auron's path immediately makes him do more damage since he's getting more turns. Also, better scaling on Thrust kick than Auron's overdrives. Jump does 32. Thrust kick does 33. But Auron's dragon fang does 16, shooting star 24 banishing blade 28 and finally tornado doing 25 (and in PAL versions does that damage in two separate attacks but evens out the same only so it can do 99,999x 2 with enough strength) So.... the only way for Kimahri to be weaker than auron is to be putting him in a path that isn't working on his strength or not using him.

I find odd that technically, every time someone calls Nina useless also uses Momo or Rei's Weretiger for reference. First, Nina's magic is excellent against random mobs, which is by the way, the most common type of encounter in the game. I find Nina more useful for this than Rei. Nina's damage falls flat against bosses, I agree, but against random mobs she is your girl, Rei is not that good either outside of Weretiger, he doesn't hit that hard, and I am very sure that most people do not Weretiger in every random encounter lol. Momo barely hits, and I am very sure that you are not using her assist magic in every random encounter either. Nina is faster than her, and also gets double turns. Now, if you want to add Skills into this, then you can have in Nina an excellent assist character as well, by giving her War Shout, Cure, Barrier, Benediction, Shield, Enlighten and Mind Sword to ignore Magic Defense. Sorry, but he must be joking here.

I find Kimarhi to be exceptionally useful if you know what you're doing with him in the early and midgame. Cheer is insanely powerful, borderline broken when more than one character has it and Kimarhi is the only one who can easily reach it other than Tidus, you can then use the early ability sphere on someone else to have triple cheer, which after only one round of turns early game can almost double your entire parties damage output. If you want to you can even break the damage limit because the Cheer buff has no cap. after 5 cheers you get enough of a defense buff to be equal to a protect spell on the whole party, while also doubling your damage output in the early to mid game, that's on top of the extra steal/use utlity from rikku's grid. Cheer doesn't seem too big when only Tidus has it but it's an ability that's exponential in growth.

My suggestions: Shana and Miranda from Legend of Dragoon. They have three things going for them - high magic (meaning they can use items and, if you're good with button-mashing, deal lots of damage), the objectively BEST dragon attack in the game combined with the fact that they are the best healers. But much like Sharla in Xenoblade, healers aren't that useful in Legend of Dragoon - healing items scale into the late-game because, much like in Tales, they heal by percentages and not flat amounts. On top of that, the "defend" command restores 10% of your max HP. The way Legend of Dragoon's system works, you'll find yourself using it WAY more often than in other games. What really harms them is the fact that they can't perform additions - they just get a weak-ass attack that basically cherry-taps enemies. They have healing magic, but MP recovery is rare and it doesnt' happen naturally meaning you usually end up rationing your magic for boss fights.... and if you're taking that much damage from bosses and NEED Shana and Miranda, you are SEVERLY underprepared. Just about eveyrthing she can do, you can have Meru do. Meru can perform additions (meaning she outdoes them in physical damage), outspeed them, perform magic on an equal level, AND on top of that, she can heal. The fact that there are only three slots (one of which is locked to Dart) in the active party is what really seals the deal against Shana and Miranda - specialist characters often only work when you have a larger party size. Claire - Jeanne D'Arc This is an unusual game for the PSP that was made by Level-5... sort of a precursor to Ni No Kuni in a way in that they had Studio Ghibli join them, but not with the amount of creative control compared to Ni No Kuni. It was seen as a 'Final Fantasy Tactics Like' game, especially in comparison to the chuggy PSP game. Enough about that, what makes Claire so useless? Here's the thing - she's a mage. In a game in which magic is generally not that useful, due to the fact that MP starts low and regenerates throughout the battle, whereas physical attacks can be used from turn one or two. So by the time you can have Claire or Richard use their magic, the battle's mostly over and you'll have to use consumables so they can do their jobs efficiently. That's one thing working against her. Number two? You have Richard. Richard has an armlet, which Claire doesn't get. The armlet gives their wearers some pretty powerful abilities. Meaning that Claire's left in the dust by Richard. Number three? She's mutually exclusive with Rose. Rose is a thief/rogue type character who is the only character that can attack Diagonally due to the fact she's the only one who can use whips. So what would you pick? A character who is pretty unique in where she can place burning auras (diagonally) and can bring utility to the table.... or a mage who is just a weaker version of who you already have. I wonder who wins... This game has NO Shortage of characters who get overshadowed, but Claire is easily the most.

You know what's funny.... I use Khimari all the time and would argue that his existence in the game makes Auron a useless character. Auron is only there initially because his weapons have piercing, but when it comes down to it , Auron has bad accuracy and magic defense, as well as many of his skills aren't all that impressive. Sending Khimari down Wakka's part of the sphere grid means that Khimari has the ability to still kill enemies slotted for Auron (because his weapons have piercing) as well as being able to take over for Tidus as well since the accuracy he gains from Wakka's path lets him hit the wolves and lizards of the game.

Personally,i really liked the concept of Boney. We basically have an empty spot in the party, Lucas ,well rounded healer, Kumatora,magical attacker, Duster,physical attacker and special equipment user. Boney can only analyse enemies ,but has no weapons(until the endgame),little armor and low stats,why is he here, other than being an extra target? Well ,i liked that i could give him all the variety of healing,status and damage dealing items to use. This could only work in game with a large variety of consumables. Items that only a character can use feel really forced,like a skill by another name,but this way is different,these are object anybody can use,but i cannot afford to waste precious turns on. They would have usually gone unused for the rest of the game,using skills instead of them. But this way combine two weak elements in a single strong one,we can use Boney to be a secondary healer and heal a second person or an ausiliary attacker. The fact that he doesn't use armor also gives him more space to hold more items. I really liked this concept of optimisation

Now, out of the grouping here, I happen to love Phantasy Star 4 and enjoy Final Fantasy X greatly. I got alot of use out of it. Fortunately, you are right about Gryz. He doesn't have much. Even years after my last time playing Pstar 4, I recall that he didn't have much going for him. However, I need to give you a "HOLD IT!" on Kimahri, and I will explain. Apart from the obvious customization that renders everybody able to access everyone else's abilities on the Sphere Grid, the fact is that Kimahri is one of the strong fighters of the group. Somewhere between Wakka and Auron (closer to Auron, I think), in my opinion. Putting that aside, though, and even setting Lancet (his blue magic) aside, there is one thing that I in particular did that made him BROKEN, and I don't know if anybody else can get this, but I became invincible with Kimahri when I did. We got a lance that was for evading and counterattacking, whether you hit him or you didn't. No matter what, if Kimahri took damage, he would immediately attack. This weapon also caused the Stone status on enemies, and you know what happens in FFX when a creature becomes petrified, right? It shatters, immediately. SO! There I was, fighting along, almost nobody able to hurt Kimahri and nearly every enemy instantly dying of petrification. Even if they were immune, they were hurt and often. We were killing in droves with minimal effort. Forget your ultimate weapons in the game, your special summons, your Overdrive abilities. THIS was what shined in my game. Raw killing power. I used all of my combat abilities to their fullest, but at least my version of the Ronso stepping up to bat was like unleashing Alucard from Hellsing. It was death personified.

The latter can buff your party, debuff your foes, spam her mystic artes with the use of the elemental seals, do infinite combo, resurrect and so on. Yeah Sheena is in fact on of the best party member of Symphonia, she's just a little subtle.

Nina is a useful character of Breath of Fire III because of her magic skills.
@playboydojo
@playboydojo 4 года назад
...Not really? Once Ryu gains the ability to transform into Dragon and other forms besides Whelp, her magic becomes kinda redundant. Momo's support magic is more useful and when she's not doing that she's the best candidate for something like Shadowwalk because it magnifies her high attack while nullifying her low accuracy. Or you can just roll the dice and use her basic chrysm attack which carries a wide range of elemental effects and even chance to cause sleep. Peco leading Attack formation or Rei leading Chain formation are also way more useful. And most enemies don't have enough defense to mitigate these party members high attack. There's only a few instances where you really need magic skills and Ryu and Momo can already do that. The only thing Nina has going for her is that the story keeps forcing you to include her in the party.
@guilhermegmoreir

@playboydojo 4 года назад
@@guilhermegmoreir I'm sorry, but you seem to be arguing a very strange position. You say I'm wrong on "all accounts" but are you really saying that all those statements are wrong? Are you really disagreeing with Shadowwalk!Momo or Rei leading Chain formation or Peco leading Attack formation? Really? Those accounts were wrong? As for your other claim, Ryu generally isn't casting spells outside of specific circumstances, because the most efficient Ryu is physical Ryu, not mage Ryu (although mage Ryu is still good). Physical Ryu will likely get by using breath attacks for crowd control and elemental claws (since Dragon form is 150% pwr and this is why I say you no longer need Nina after you acquire Dragon form. It's such a low cost for such a good reliable damage boost and it gets even more silly once you get the Force gene) for single target damage and by doing so will do better damage for the cost than Nina for the same AP cost. He doesn't really start draining his AP until later in the game when he gains Myrmidon form (300%Pwr!) and Aura or elemental Strikes to do much much better burst damage than Nina. Physical Ryu will just outdamage Nina. In fact, physical everyone will outdamage Nina, because magic output doesn't scale as well in BoF3 as physical does. Most bosses actually have better Int than Def so their damage taken from magical spells is reduced. Plus weapons increase Pwr much more than just about any equipment increase Int, even for Nina. Even a Meditate or Enlighten can't compare to the physical ridiculousness of Last Resort or the many grossly overpowered physical attacks. By the time you get to the adult stage of the game, physical damage just makes magic damage redundant outside of very specific circumstances like Nina being a forced party member or a particular enemy Nina's magical damage is really best for trash mobs (there are some common enemies that have high Int, but they're the exception, not the rule, while the reverse is true for bosses), but so what? Even if they have lower Int, their Def is usually not enough to stop Ryu's claw attacks and Peco destroys trash mobs at no cost just by sitting in the front of the formation. Against bosses, her damage output just gets outpaced by Ryu Rei and Shadowwalk!Momo who all have more utility besides their higher damage potential. Not only does Nina not do great damage for the cost of AP (and the opportunity cost of missing one of Rei, Momo, or Peco in the party) but she doesn't really offer any other utility, either. And this is just about magic spells not being as massive as the damage physical skills output. If we take her terrible durability into account, there's just no way we can call her a useful character.
@Thehotdogman

I thought Nina was really cute! Though I felt like her personality sort of went away when she grew up. They didn't do anything else with her after she grew up. They really smoothed out all the issues I had with the third game. Better master system. Slightly Lee's infuriating mandatory mini games, etc.

My most hated JRPG party member right now has to be Dew from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. Jesus is he bad. Poor defenses, literally has so little strength that he does 0 damage to a ton of enemies; pretty much his only saving grace is that he's able to avoid a lot of things, which isn't even a total upside because he's so squishy. He's swordlocked, so all the 1-2 range options he has are magic based (which he has even WORSE bases and growth for!), and he's not mounted, so he misses out on a lot of movement options and can't use the Canto ability to get to safety. Just.... ew all around. His only selling point is that he can steal 1000-2000 gold per attack, which also isn't that good when you realize the arena exists and you can use it without wasting a turn. There aren't even any chests or doors for him to unlock, which is half the reason people use thieves in Fire Emblem anyways. Hoping to see him in part 5. EDIT: I forgot to add this, but Genealogy of the Holy War only uses one RN (random number) for its hit rate, which means that Dew's avoid rate is even shakier than most other thieves' avoidance So if Dew's enemy has a 30 percent displayed chance to hit him, they actually have a 30 percent chance to hit him. Compare this to the GBA games onward, which use 2 RNs for their hit rate, which means the same displayed hit rate on an enemy connecting their attack actually has an 18.30 percent chance to hit your unit. That's about a 12 percent difference, but that 12 percent can mean a lot.

@@-lord1754 I do agree he's good at that. The problem is that that's the ONLY thing he's good for. It's not unreplaceable though. Again, the arena gives gold to everybody (and exp!) without wasting turns, and there are plenty of other ways to get gold, such as through visiting villages or just defeating enemies. And if he dies the enemy phase he steals gold, then the gold he stole in the first place is worthless.

Here's a concrete build for Kimahri without even trying. 1) Cycle him clockwise from his starting point until he gets to Rikku's path. 2) Go in, grab Steal and Use and continue just far enough to activate the first Magic node. 3) Use a Return sphere to go back to the Extract Mana ability. 4) Grab the Magic node below Extract Mana, and backtrack to enter Wakka's path. 5) Follow Wakka's path to Silence Attack. Use a Lvl 2 Key Sphere to enter Lulu's path. 6) Skip Demi, grab everything else. Finish Lulu's path. 7) Either emerge back into Wakka's path and start acquiring the Buster attacks, or head elsewhere. This is very little effort, cherry picks some of the best abilities, and doesn't require excessive grinding. When he picks up level 3 magic, he's only 4 magic behind Lulu, and he gets the spells 28 sphere levels before her (55 to her 83). Over the next 30 levels, she'll gain 0 Magic and he'll gain 25, along with Flare and Drain. By the time she's getting Flare, he's all the way up Wakka's path to Sleep Buster. And the entire time, he's tougher than her and has over twice the agility. Those kinds of shenanigans are really just not possible in reverse.

I actually liked him. Sure, he was weaker in magic power than Emma, but that still left him better at Artes than anyone else in games where a properly equipped mage character is basically doing S-Break level damage with every Arte. Plus he had better physical stats than Emma (though only Speed is important in his case), and his Crafts make him a top tier support character. Combine that with his Link ability to possibly boost the Arte damage of his Linked Partner, and I liked to keep Emma on the front lines as my main damage dealer, with Elliot in a support slot (maybe starting out on the front lines in a boss battle, just to open up by giving the other 3 characters 3 rounds of HP Regen), ready to swap in at a moment's notice to ressurect the entire party with his second S-Break, or try and Link with and then boost Emma for some extra damage when she is prepping a massive Arte, and maybe swap out with her if anything survives her dropping a Lost Arte on it and I don't feel like using an item to restore her EP (as using a Lost Arte usually sacrifices most/all of a character's EP, depending on their equipment and any turn-bonuses you may have). I'd say that Millium is probably the worst, since she doesn't really do anything unique worth noting, and her impressive damage output isn't great enough to warrant not replacing her with someone that has some neat Crafts or higher magical power. And even then, the characters are all balanced enough that she isn't actually a *bad* character to use in combat by any stretch of the imagination.

Lulu on the other hand is entirely useless. AS SOON as you fight Seymour for the first time as you can steal Black Spheres from it and learn Black Magic on Yuna, who blows Lulu out of the water completely. Besides building Yuna for heavy black magic use also buffs your Aeon's magic stats which make theirs hit like a truck as well. Her Overdrive is also worse than Kimhari's.
