The boo is bad? It gives you invincibility, gets rid of someone else's item, and can give you any items regardless of your place. Sounds pretty good to me
The only thing good about it is that you can drive off road. Most of the time you accidentally use it at the wrong time when no one has an item, and it gives you nothing.

Here is how I look at the blue-shell. When the computer players use it, its the bane of my existence. However when I'm using it, its like a gift from God.
I hate the modern Blue Shell. In Mario Kart 64 it (sometimes) hits all of the players ahead of you, but sometimes misses every person, so it could be a make-or-break item. Unlike the newer ones, where it's completely OP. Plus a lot of the time I get them in 3rd or 4th and I just get caught in the explosion.
Well it was 1996, what did you expect? But what I'm trying to say is all the items get you ahead or slow down other people behind you or directly in front of you, whereas the Blue Shell only serves to get whatever unlucky soul is in 1st place a one-way ticket to 12th. It just seems kind of cheap to prey on the person who's good at the game.

I remember in Mario Kart DS I used to try and place the fake item boxes right on top of regular item boxes so that they're more easily mistakable, I don't remember how effective that was.
There are mods in mkwii which change the thundercloud to make you bigger (like a mega mushroom). If only nintendo could rework the thundercloud to be like that, then it would be something that you want to try to keep rather than give away!
The thunder cloud creates the chaos in mario kart. And in Mario Kart Wii on moonview highway its amazing because your going faster and weaving in and out of traffic to pass it on to another racer
You get an Item and think, pls give me something that helps me. You get the Cloud and think wow, there is no other driver nearby so the Item punish me for getting the Item Box.
It takes skills to dodge a blue shell when it's thrown quickly brake and wait for someone to overtake u or brake when it is going to explode u can easily avoid it
Nice list. I clicked this video because I wanted to see blue shell at top of the list. It's extremely frustrating to see all the races where I was hit by a blue shell shortly in front of the finish line or even today in MKDD in multiple races where I was hit by two blue shells in a row. All these cases destroy minutes of winning achievement effort!! Except for Yoshi egg and the heart, I really second this list. In my experience the items from the Yoshi egg rather helped me than the opponent and the hearts allow you to collect special items from other players but cannot help against explosions. CPUs are usually too lazy to collect stars on the road. However, the POW-Block and Boo item are not as useless as you might think. The pow block makes all people lose their items which drive on the ground while the Boo let's you drive over grass and other terrain without slowing down (in MKDS). I would suggest the Tanooki Tail for 10th place instead.
You could avoid the blue she'll easy if you are in the first place and a player used a blue shell well you could fix that mistake if the second place guy is nearby well just let them get to first place and then the other player and then your save
Yes, but when you are that good, you probably have skill. Skilled players are supposed to win, that's why it's a game. And then there are the times that you get hit while second place is very close... Ugh... (P. S. Picking Funky Kong in MK wii doesn't take skill, so then im ok with it)
the blue shell is a good item, and I'm saying that as a frontrunner. Not only does it help with rubber banding, it creates an opportunity for those who aren't frontrunning to catch up. Also its original purpose was to prevent weird crashes on N64 (something to do with AI distances, not quite sure).
It's worth noting the Blooper (or at least in MK8, dunno about others) greatly affects your enemies' grip, causing drifts to get really inefficient and make some of the more aggressive cart/character combos to drift off course. That's even more annoying threatening to me when I play rather than the ink it sprays.
I love the Blue Shell especially in MK Wii because it's so common. I love spending my races is 5th - 7th hitting players with Red Shells, POW's, and of course Blue Shells not to mension squish everyone with the Mega Mushroom then boosting to the top at the end.
My problem with the coin is that is maxes out at 10, if you're going to have it as an item, don't cap it out at 10! If it was 99 or something then it'd be useful in first place because you could get so fast you start passing by last place racers and then if you get hit with a blue shell you're so far ahead that you can still be in first, and if you're past 12th place then the red shells could hit the wrong person.

I think everyone was expecting the blue shell to be on this list. I get a slight PTSD moment when that thing's let loose, so I somewhat pray, when I'm in first, that no one has the blue shell. Do any Mario Kart veterans or newcomers out there feel the same way about the blue shell?
one, the blue shell was created to balance the gameplay, making it possible for people who have trouble with the game to have a chance at not getting last place. two, i avoid the blue shell alltogether by going into a pit. three, if it is unavoidable, then i try to catch as many people in the blast as possible. if i see it pop up on the bottom screen where the player icons are, i slow down, so someone else gets caught. tactics people.
+megamilesprower The reason it is so annoying, is because it normally only comes up on the last lap when you are in first and you normally dont have the horn, or environmental help. Or if your really skilled, the mushroom dash timing, but still, all these are rare so you normally get hit anyways.
The thing that bothers me about the heart power up that Peach and Daisy use in Double Dash is that it's overpowered. So basically you can win almost every race by just playing as Peach and Daisy.
In 200cc MK8DX the boo is actually very good. Often times you don't need a speed boost and if used lap 3 you can maybe get a shock dodge. In online it's also very helpful in the chaotic 3-8th placings where triple reds, fire flowers and piranha plants are common. The item you get from it doesn't even matter.
The blue shell was more useful in Mario Kart 64. Instead of flying over everyone and hitting just the person im first place, in MK64, it actually slides on the ground and hits everyone in front of you.

I really don't hate the blue shell as much as everyone else, and I've taken *a lot* of them. The thing I don't like is when they cause you to lose at the last possible second of a race. THAT is when it crosses the line into my dislike list. It's good for when the leader is far ahead, as it can set them back a bit, which is why I disagree with number 1.
look, If you are playing for wii or wii u there are twelve characters racing. If you are in 12th place it does not help you at all because you are so far behind!!!!!!!
Catherine Vial I understand that, but I believe you're more likely to get bullet bills, lightning bolts, or golden mushrooms than you are to get a blue shell. I wouldn't know though, I haven't played online in forever and I wouldn't lose to computers, and the Wii and MKW I play isn't mine, so I can't just install CTGP on it.
I kind of see why the Yoshi Egg is on here. Two of the items it releases are a Mushroom and a Star, and the opponent you hit can pick it up. However, it also releases three other items, which are a Green Shell, a Banana, and a Bob-omb. It's an okay item, I suppose.
I think that the red shell is objectively worse than the yoshi/birdo egg, and I think that the Pow block and the Heart can be used pretty strategicly. Also, the Cape Feather can skip huge chunks of a stage, in Bowser Castle 2, you can skip almost half the track. I would place the Super Leaf somewhere, because the tail on your vehicle is really useless. But I can agree with the coin, fake item box and the blooper. As for the Thundercloud, well, hope we never see it again. I liked the boo for a long time, but one time, when I got a super horn, the boo stole it and then a blue shell came lol. Overall, this was a good video, keep up the good work!
4:11 that item isn’t bad, it’s OP. If you get hit by someone, you not only survive the hit without any damage, but you also get the item. And keep in mind that it includes OTHER SPECIAL ITEMS.
The pow block is one of the best items, but it is situational. It can be used to knock a mushroom out of first places hand to get them hit by a blue shell. On a sharp turn it is good if well timed. On daisy circuit, the u turn is a great place for pow blocks. If you dodge it, you will still probably hit a wall
I couldn’t agree more about the blue shell. In mktour, the thing keeps on destroying me while I try to grind challenges. I’m about to email Nintendo telling them to remove that in the next update

Yep blue shell is a terrible item. Yes it attacks the 1st place player, but it doesn’t help you. Luckily they actually balanced it better in Mario Kart 8. It can hit other people along the way and you have 2 items to counter it instead of one. So blue shell is technically not as useful if you’re hitting 1st place player and might be more helpful to get ahead a couple places. Boo item is actually very good for an item. You might steal items, you turn invisible, and you’re invincible as well.
Theres a lot of ways to block the blue shell, especially since item smuggling is more common nowadays. Mushroom, Triple Mushroom, Golden Shroom, Super Horn, Star, Boo, Bullet Bill, Piranha Plant [I believe], not to mention dropping out of first, or if you're on lap three, beat it to the finish line.
I think the main problem with the Blue Shell is that its gotten in very low ranks, where it wouldn't help you at all since normally the player on the lead is miles away from you. Also, it's a really good thing they made the Blue Shell obtainable depending on the distance of the leader (player in first) rather than strictly the placement of the item owner. Because why would you care about hitting the leader if you're in... say, 10th place?
