Actually, one of my favorite things to do is put a fake item box INSIDE of a real one. It works really well.

How to troll with Fake Item Boxes: Place them almost at the exact same spots as Item Boxes

I love how in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that if you have a Piranha Plant and a blooper tries to ink you, the plant will eat the blooper lmao.

Personally I dont think the idea of a coin being an item is bad. It was the execution that was bad. The problem is that it was just WAY too common.

The real benefit of the POW block was making everyone drop their items ahead of you. If you were able to chain it into a Mega Mushroom or maybe triple shrooms this gives you a huge advantage.

That feeling when a blooper hits you and your a squid. When your already an inkling and ink affects you. I mean, cmon Nintendo.

One thing to note about the Blooper: the AI racers aren't affected much by it. They just start to zig zag along the track... but oddly enough, they can still drive through sharp turns and narrow passways.

The Bob-omb blocks shells behind you but you need to drop it early.

Fake item boxes should be the same aesthetically to regular ones except to the user. The user should also just go through it if they hit it which could tip off observant opponents

i think hot potato could be a good idea for battle mode, so heres what happens, there 10 players, you spin a wheel to see who gets the thunder cloud 1st, and then all the players ride around passing the thunder cloud to eachother, the thundercloud takes a whole minute until it stikes, who ever it stikes is out, then the wheel spins again to see who is it for round 2, now with 9 players because 1 was elliminated, all the way down to 2 players, last player standing, wins

1:56 actually it's very easy, when the red shells coming throw the bomb behind you, and once it explodes it destroys the shell! In MK8 D it works!

The blue shell is actually useful in a race with teams, as it can be used to blast the first player when they are on the other team, so a teammate can come first and win the team more points.

I'd argue that MK8's version of the triple banana is actually worse than the single banana. At least the single one can reliable protect you, whereas I swear that the triple banana has let in more shots than it's protected me from. But oh it's TOTALLY worth it to lay three easily avoidable mild inconveniences.

Lightning bolt was brutal on the N64. Everybody first got hit (no avoiding possible unless under the effect of a star), lost their item, shrunk down and slowed down, and on top of that, if the player who launched the lighting bolt drove over a shrunken down player it would be squeezed and float in the air for aboit 3 times the length of a banastrike. N64 Mario kart eas definitely the most brutal mario kart ever. I still play it. You could launch other players off the map into glitching by simply hitting them with a green or red shell. I wish they made the gameplay so brutal and vicious again. Please make skme kind of nostalgic review aboit this Jwitzz

The Blooper- or squidgie as I like to call them- are a lot more effective in 8 Deluxe due to the ink taking up more of the screen (sometimes you get lucky and get a small ink splat on you), and apparently it gives you more slippery driving physics.

The Blue Spiny Shell isn't that bad, but its usefulness depends on the game. Say you're in last place and you get the Blue Spiny Shell for example. You'll want to play a Mario Kart where it stays low to the ground so it can hit other players.

I still want the fake item box back in mario kart.

I actually really like the Thundercloud item. And I feel like that the Fake Item Box should be, y'know, more *F A K E* , but it's just a thought.

i think the bomb is amazing. i love sniping with it, and the fact that it walks makes it even better. correct me if im mistaken, but in mario kart 8 it can block shells as well.

The blooper is actually less effective than getting something in your eye in real life.

I noticed the fake block wasn't in Mario Kart 8, more of a relief than anything. The Blooper would be better (Or.. Worse, I guess?) if the ink covered the screen in a way that makes racers have tunnel vision, making them not be able to see what's coming from other angles.

Thundercloud is #1, calling it right now. That thing sucks.

When I was little, I would play against my babysitter, and I drove over the tiny bridge at the end of one of the DK stages and dropped the fake item box on it. They had no choice but to hit it.

The POW block is a great item because you can target people on sharp corners if you actually know what you're doing and it also causes everyone to lose their item. The thundercloud doesn't just boost your speed, it also gives instant acceleration if you get hit. True, it sucks to be shrunk, but it's also strategic because it's not always the best strategy to always go for a box no matter what.

I HATE that stupid coin..........

Blooper in MK7 and 8 got buffed pretty good from DS and Wii to cover the screen better, not to mention the lowered traction in 8 makes it a little more annoying.

How to improve these items: 10: Whenever you use it, you will jump towards another racer. 9: If it doesn’t hit, it stays on the track and detonates when someone except for the person who threw it bumps into it. 8: Have the items get magnetized towards you when it hits another racer. 7: This item is just meant to be useless. Nuff said. 6: Have it only be accessible when you’re in the top 4. 5: Have it look like a red item box with it’s question mark upside in the user’s POV, but have it look identical to a regular item box in other player’s POV. 4: If it hits, the players will be knocked back. 3: Have it double your current coin count. 2: Next to the blooper item box, a slot with the other racers will be shown and whoever it lands on will get the blooper, and it actually makes the screen almost pitch black. 1: Have it lock on to the person closest to you, and you can’t be given it back.

I notice when talking about the Blooper's assorted downsides, you left out the fact that the AI just outright no-sells it just like any other vision-obscuring item in any Nintendo game.

I find it funny how new Mario Kart players tell people on RU-vid comments of how they dodge a blue shell or were to place fake item boxes. when almost every single Mario Kart player knows the tricks to doing these

Actually, I consider the fake item box one of the best items in the games. Why? Just hide it directly in front of a regular box, and it's a banana that makes whoever lose the item they just got.

The Thundercloud is the only item where are you really really don't want it, it's also the only item that sends the racer into a straight panic

Banana is a great defense, bombs are great snipers, you pack blues at 6 to 4, and coins at the start are great for breaking out of the pack.

Fittingly, I had a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe ad before this video.

i say the Fake item box is at least a good item... in Mario Kart DS as it looks like an item box with no question mark in it, placing it among groups of item boxes can be used as a sneaky trap (if a player isn't looking at their bottom screen of course)

The POW Block is usually utilized well, but Mario Kart Wii is an example of how it can be utilized poorly.

some of those items like the blue shell are needed to balance out the game. I think about half of the items in this list are legit horrible, but half of them are more for balancing purposes

The bomb actually can stop a shell if you drop it behind you. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at least.

The worst stuff when you are first in Mario Kart 1. You get all the bad stuff 2. If you miss a turn say goodbye to first place 3. BLUE SHELLS

One thing, my view is from a DD perspective. Bananas are great. They stop all incoming attacks (with a precise drop)apart from the blue shell which can be avoided with a near frame perfect input). You can also snipe with a banana is someone edges ahead of you. (the timing and aiming is strict but after practicing for a while, it's easy) They won't get any warning apart from the flying sound (which is less than a shell) while having less time to react. You can also set up traps with bananas such as placing it where people really want to go (such as certain spots on corners, in front of boosts so they slide right over, and hot spots on the maps) and by placing a banana behind you where your opponent will want to go. This causes them to make a move which isn't ideal and will extend your lead by a fraction of a second to 4ish seconds, depending if the opponent hits the banana or just has to go around. Bananas are also better than shells because they are stationary. This makes it easier to set traps and block other projectiles. In the end, bananas are one of the best items to have while in first place because it covers every option better than a green shell. Thank you for reading this and have a great day!

One quick thing. If you can master the bomb, you can snipe by throwing it around corners, or just by predicting where your opponent will go. You can also set up temporary barriers because no one wants to be in the explosion range. This can lead to many situations where you can gain the upper hand. Worst Mario kart item is easily the Lightning cloud in wii

The Bob-Omb in MK8 is the best item to pull in 1st. It's godly for frontrunning because you can often take out the only two people close enough to have a chance of catching you with just one item, and as long as you time it you can block red shells with it as well.

OBJECTION! For the 1st one, in super mario kart 8 deluxe, you can jump barriers, people and shells an also get a minor boost. For the 2nd one, bob-ombs are really good in maps like baby park, excite bike arena and many others that have long stretches of track. And for the spiny shell, it really can help. If you think about it, it goes down the middle, like a bullet bill power up, and if it hits someone who is in the middle, it hurts them, like a bullet bill power up, except it goes all the way to the front and blows up 1st place. That seems pretty cool to me.

The blooper is actually somewhat useful in MK8 because they added a side effect which gives the victim's kart slippery physics.

Instead of removing some of these items, Im curious how you would improve them like increasing the boost to top speed coins give you, or having the coin give more coins?

i have an idea for the coins in mario kart games, so the coins could be a currency, and you could use them to buy items which you would have a limit of 3 items bought in the store per day, and maybe to buy karts, kart parts, and characters, and you could press x any time and it would pick a random one of the items you bought.

I wish the Bullet Bill hadn’t replaced the Chain Chomp. There was something cathartic about your opponents being plowed over like bowling pins by something that’s dragging you straight up the placings. Yeah, you’re not granted immunity while it’s active, but it was way more fun to watch.

Thundercloud not only gave a speed boost, but also made you ignore the terrain in a sense of you couldn't be slowed. Allowed you to take shortcuts without a mushroom

One exploit I found on Mariokart DS for dodging the Blue Shell is to simply let another racer take 1st place, then follow them in 2nd place until the shell hits them so you can return to 1st place with zero consequence.

I have an idea for a new item: Lakitu Cloud. You're more likely to get it in last place. Your kart turns into a cloud and you can fly 2 places ahead before it expires and becomes a kart again.

Mind BLOWN by the revelation that the Fake Item Box wasn't in MK8. I got that game AT LAUNCH! Also, while it isn't very useful in subsequent games, in MK64 it was actually pretty good. It was the same color as normal item boxes, and when playing split-screen it was harder to see the upside down question mark. I won a LOT of battles and VS races with that item strategically placed! Also coins were a necessity in the first Mario Kart due to the fact you spun out when knocking into another racer if you had none. But yeah, they're annoying to get since, as you mentioned, they're all over the courses, and CPUs don't pick them up. Now they're just for collecting to get the stupid Golden Glider.

My suggestion for improving the blue shell is to let it hit 4-5 places in front of you, and make the blast radius bigger instead of first place. Like JWittz says, what’s it gonna help you if you’re all the way in 12th? But also, don’t let it go past first place, so like if get the blue shell and manage to make it to third or second, it doesn’t loop back around to 12th place and such. The your friends will really have a reason to hate you.

I've only played Double Dash and I was so confused when you said what the number one item was. Guess they nerfed it... It used to be the most powerful and annoying item in the game so I guess it makes sense...

Double Dash will always be the best Mario Cart.

Also worth noting the Blooper in MK8 reduces your kart's grip, making it more slippery and hard to control. This makes it considerably better IMO.

I like the idea of the thunder cloud but it was implemented wrong. They should’ve given someone who was in 1st place and way ahead something negative like the thundercloud.

I only remember the thundercloud from the DS game, but there it had a completely different effect. It would shrink EVERYONE but you. Those in the back of the race would have the lowest time while those in front, of course, the highest. I LOVED to hold on to the thundercloud, race to the top 5 players, use it, and blast to victory :p (PS: Or is the item I'm thinking of 'just' the thunderbolt? Thunder.. thundercloud.. It's ben too long since I've played Mario Kart ^w^ )

9. Actually, in Mariokart 8 Deluxe, if you throw it behind you as soon as you see the red shell warning, the shell will hit the bomb after giving you enough time to drive off. Trust me, I've used this technique quite a lot
