@@AlexCattoni Sadly, this is an Indian product, and the implications of such a product are far more than just racism in an Indian context. Colour of one's skin has a far different effect in India... though the general discriminatory undertone is universal.

The Fair and Lovely product issue was technically colourism. It's primary market, India, is rampant with stigma on the basis of colour. The ad basically promoted dark-skinned Indians to try and be as fair as their fellow Indians.

Omg Darlie toothpaste is still popular. Whenever I visit Taiwan, it's still stocked in the shelves of every market. The motto is something like, "make your teeth as white as a Black person's." People genuinely believe that stereotype, because there are very few Black people in eastern Asia. The only time they ever see a Black person is when they are on a photoshopped ad or commercial.

I am from Taiwan, and yes we still purchase "black person toothpaste", the reason is that the price is cheaper. I can't really remember the motto, I was a kid:) But nowadays more people buy other brand of toothpaste. My parents still buy "black person toothpaste" tho, as I said the price is cheaper. the first time I travelled back to Taiwan with my Italian boyfriend, he was also surprised and laughing. wait a sec..we have whiteman toothpaste in Taiwan.

Always love your videos, but just have to clarify, NZ (where I live) isn't really 'right next door' to Australia :) Never saw the Dominos ad so can't comment on it but I can confirm that Australia and NZ, whilst in Australasia, are two very separate countries. As for the other ads, oh dear, what were they thinking?

Hey Alex! Thanks for this amazing video and I just have a quick question for you - How do you convience client and make them believe in your idea and opinions? I mean I was offering a service of about page copywriting. And when I looked my client website's about page, he had written everything about him and his qualifications but he didn't mentioned any benefits of hiring him as web developer, so I suggested him that I'll write another copy and you can use that one and can add your current content as a resume at the end of about page. But he said no and I know it will cause trouble in getting leads. So how do you handle such client who doesn't listen to you and they just want to get their job done. Even though you know that this thing that you're offering will work?

Ouch. That's kind of a tough one, there is only so much logic and reasoning you can give the client. If they are really stuck in their opinions, then it doesn't really matter what you say. Sounds like you need to find a different client who knows the value of great copy!

What do you think of all the negative press from BLM and their mishandling of donated funds? The cause was right, the mismanagement of donations, and violence within communities was not right.

The fair and lovely product is a complex one; the target country for that values whiter skin, and is mostly unconcerned with the rest of the world trying to combat racism seeing as it’s not really a relevant issue there

Flicking other humans is certainly not on the "how to win friends and influence people" list of advertising jargon that is for sure. Perhaps not writing ads that attack people in the ad is one place Volkswagon could start.

Honestly, I can't decide which ad was the worst. They're all terrible in such massively impactful ways! If I *had* to choose, though, it would definitely be Giant's. Won't be buying from them! (And I don't think ever I have before, which I'm glad about!)

I'm not saying that each and every person who wants to whiten their skin is a racist. I'm saying that the product and "ideal" behind this concept has racist roots. These products are telling people that their dark complexions are not beautiful or worthy, and if they want to be valued in society then they need to lighten their complexion. You don't see the problem with that?
