I’ve lived in Jacksonville aka the duval aka lerpville aka the jaguar aka the 904 aka the murder capital aka the jax aka duvalville for 98 years now and this guy has no idea what hes talking about. If you come back here we got something special waiting for you, your fat maybe you should walk instead of drive thru my hood. You know nothing about my city if you aint from here you cant talk about my town.. and finally your racist.

I was never scared in Jacksonville myself. I would go all up in any neighborhood but this was 15 years ago. I knew ppl and I was known. Now I don’t know. I still go up there put I usually stay in Yulee. I don’t think I would be afraid. I hope my hometown isn’t that bad. Then again bad things can happen anywhere.

That's true of any ghetto in the US. Even in the worst areas, usually it's 10 to 15% of the people who actually do crimes. Everyone else usually keeps to themselves, or don't do anything more than buy weed to get through the weekend, or wind up as victims of the aforementioned criminals.

that’s how it is where i live, there might be crime but most of the crime is between people who have beef with each other. if someone innocent does get hurt, it’s always “wrong place wrong time”… just negligence, not intentional.

The words worst neighborhood is a code word for African American neighborhood in my opinion. The reason this neighborhood is in this condition is because of deindustrialization leading to lack of job opportunities, Redlining which deny mortgages and lead to low property values and very little public or private investment. The people are subjugated and there's a large economic and income inequalities. You referred to a golf course in the video which is east of Moncrief Park it appears to be Brentwood golf course it is only one in that area. It was once segregated by the city of Jacksonville but a Supreme Court case in 1962 changed it to integrated.Thanks to the Brentwood Four who were African American men that sued the city in a Battle for equality.

My friends moved to Jax 5 years ago - Baymeadows and Southside and I've visited several times. If you want to see the future of Jacksonville, just look towards Charlotte as well as south and central Florida. I lived in Austin Texas for the last 10 years and can vouch what is coming towards Jax. 10 years ago one could get a cheap house on the east side of Austin for $50k. Same house now goes for $500k. No joke. Tons of gentrification. What the banking industry did to Charlotte over the last 10 years the Wall Street firms are now doing to Jacksonville. I plan on moving to Jax end of next summer as property values will start to really escalate in a few years and I would like to be on the atlantic. Also, as Metro Jax continues to grow so to will its terms. There will be a day when St. Augustine and St. Mary's is just another Jax suburb and metro jax will have 3 or 4 million residence. When that happens it will be a totally different place. It is what it is good or bad.

Hahaha really enjoyed this! I've lived here for 20 years and there are a lot of rough areas regardless of skin color. Overall the northwest side of Jax and some of Arlington are the worst. As some one who went to JSO's police academy and worked for brinks rolling through the worst neighborhoods in Jax it's out there. For the most part if you are in these areas people will respect you when respect is given. I don't advise you roll through these neighborhoods but if you happen to be there stand tall and be a good person you wont have too many problems.

This is actually very true. I was a white person who moved literally on Arlington and University right next to the Arlington boat dock and I didn't even know it was a bad neighborhood until I moved there. I started helping the neighbors and they were so poor. Some doing Fentanyl, some just in bad situations. I was a veteran with money and I helped everyone. They looked at me as a hero. They treated me like a king. I felt like one honestly. The king of my own dirt pile. Any of them would have looked out for me. And I love them for it. I wanna go back and see them. I wanna thank them for looking out for me. For giving me advice and always treating me with respect. My neighbor Raymond was a schizophrenic who smoked crack. He's 70 years old. He would come over and knock on my door for a cigarette while my girlfriend was in the house. She broke up with me a couple months later because of where I lived. But I love Raymond, more than I will ever have loved her. What a beautiful soul.

I came to live in Duval when I was 18. I lived there the next 17 years. I was stationed there and stayed to get an education. Later on I became a nurse. The middle part of my career I worked in home health. I had to learn the city using an atlas because phones didn’t have GPS yet. Most of the neighborhoods you decided to highlight and the ones you mentioned I visited the people in those communities and I am here to tell you there are some good people in Duval. They looked after me like family when my family was 500 miles away. There were high crime rates then however I never was afraid to go in any of those neighborhoods even after I found out what they were like. Before you say I was safe because I was the nurse that isn’t always true. Some people believe we carry medication and they knew my company had needles and some of us had laptops. If you need a fix and not thinking straight you will do what you have to period. Lastly when I lived there I lived on the Westside, moved to the Riverside. Then my last residences were on the Northside and attended church all my years on the Westside. I will tell you I didn’t feel more safe on one side or the other. Crime is crime. Seeing this video after being away for about 7 years let’s me know that Duval was my home away from home and you obviously only go there to visit because you really only know that city by the statistics like a tourist

Johns River and the rest of the surrounding areas were just a part of Duval County that's also why we call the Eastside the Eastside and why it is smack dab in the middle of the city it was as far east as the city limits were then until they expanded the city to include areas like San Marco Arlington East Arlington Baymeadows Mandarin and the beaches

The southside is only given that name because they use to be Jacksonville's suburbs before Duval County consolidated in 1967. Thus it became the southside of Jacksonville. Though Arlington is separate from Southside and the border is kinda messy because areas between Atlantic Bvld. and Beach Bvld. could be considered either or. Tbh Jacksonville's southside feels like a completely different city imo.

Explanation for the Eastside/Southside naming history. Most of these areas got their designations before Jax was developed. The area of Arlington/Regency used to be the effective limit of the populated zone before several miles of woods. Then you hit the beaches. Many neighborhoods around the city are like this. Formerly almost independent towns that were inside city limits.

Great video! I grew up in "Springfield" on Pearl; I left about 10 years ago. I think the reference point for our north and south is around the Main Street Bridge(the blue one). If you look at maps/watch local news, they refer to "North Bank" and "South Bank"(river banks) and Arlington happens to be on "South Bank"if you use the part of the river at the Main St Bridge as a reference). Yes the river bends and that becomes east but it would probably confuse people more if there was "east bank". Outeast "the east side" is also east of the Main Street Bridge...No book facts here. Just my pov growing up there.

But it's areas that has changed some good some not its sad cause our city and mayor has never ever in certain bad areas set they asses in them they send they dressed up white folks in out areas may speak to few people then they out lol the mayor always either busy or can't shoe up . Hell I live downtown and we can't get help with homeless taking over and drug dealer setting up shop at the bus stops

So many feelings about Jax & the Beaches. Lived there 2 different times, and fir a decade that 2nd time and at the beach. Spent some time diwntown too. Did most of the hardcore work in re Uniformity and Bitcoin there. But I tell people that I never want to visit again, too many memories are painful and most caused by other residents. And here but really in the South the violence is "more". They don't dump a worn out rooster that they forced to fight, they need to chop it up 1st and then leave it on the train tracks. And I aaid hoodbye to my closest friend in Jax. *sigh*

A lot of what you said is the truth. But there are more bad neighborhoods than that and they're not not all of them are black neighborhoods. A lot of them are white neighborhoods too a lot of them are mixed neighborhoods. I live in Jacksonville I was born and raised there in oceanway. I watched a lot of the people that I love go down because of drugs and crime and stupidity. My baby brother died a year ago at his house of a drug overdose at 4811 North Rhode Island drive in Jacksonville Florida. I know someone ain't going to like me mentioning the address but I don't care because if somebody sees it before they think about buying that house then maybe they might get some of the truth before they buy it. Cuz my brother wasn't out of prison for 90 days before he died of a drug overdose and I told my dad that the worst thing that he could let my brother do was let him come back to Jacksonville because I felt like that was the worst idea because I felt like here he would know where every drug house is. But it's not just in one neighborhood it's also in my neighborhood in the past year there have been three people that have died in my neighborhood of a drug overdose one right around the corner from my house. So that kind of crime and wickedness that is everywhere. Not just in one neighborhood not just in 10 neighborhoods that is everywhere. I'm 37 years old my brother was 34 when he died I also lost my mother because of a drug overdose she was 51. Nobody should have to die that young because of crime and drugs. But I will say this don't let the nice neighborhoods fool you because there is crime and wickedness even in those neighborhoods.

😮It's has become a place of dispair. No place is truly safe. The housing market is the best way to tell what neighborhood is what. I live 15 minutes from Jacksonville and over the years the crime is slowly intruding our small town community. From a cop killer to teenagers thinking they thugs and kids loosing life's. It's so sad to watch.

I know exactly what i said and where the video is.. i just wanted to set a trap and you feel for it. 😗 in the future, learn to listen carefully. That was a set up and you feel for it. Walked around Eastside some weeks ago and witnessed a group of gang members committing animal cruelty to a puppy. Never want to go any of these areas. Another terrible crime ridden area is Jax Inn. Never stay there no matter how cheap it is. There is drug dealing and prostitution and fighting rampant there. Including many past crime scenes and murders.

I love Jacksonville, Florida❤ I have lived here for 5 years and Jacksonville keeps getting better and better. After living in multiple areas in Jax I have figured it out. Like most large cities there are good areas and bad areas. Jax is a huge massive city land wise. I would say 40% of Jax is low income high, crime, and neglected "Bad" areas. These are near downtown on the Westside, Downtown on the eastside north of stadium, alot of east arlington, near St Nicholas... These areas are lower income or economically disadvantaged. Generally speaking the majority of the entire west side of jacksonville is lower income or lower middle class. Where is the best places to live then? If your family is making near or over 6 figures you would enjoy buying in a middle to upper middle class area you should consider Bartram, Communities in St Johns County, Mandarin, The Beaches Jax Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, Ponte vedra Beach, Generally anything East of 295 beltway toward the beach.

The race baiters will attack me for sure here. I grew up in old Arlington. Went to Arlington jr High and Terry Parker High 1970-73. It was not a bad area, not the rich area but not bad. But as soon as it was taken over by a majority of blacks it was turned into toilet. The sad truth is When blacks moves in the neighborhood turns into a high crime jungle. This is the story throughout the entire country. The problem is not the city it is the people. No matter what one's income is there is no excuse for trashing ones neighborhoods and the crime. There is a significant difference between poor all othher groups neighborhoods and black neighborhoods and that says it all. The question is how much longer are the rest of society going to put up with this.
@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS
@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS 2 года назад
the reason blacks have those problems in because they are surrounded by racist whites in all directions. I live in Fort Myers Florida and our black areas are not the worst. The worst areas are North Fort Myers ALL WHITE, homelessness and drug addiction run rampant there. Thankfully as the whites OD, the latinos are buying the area out and fixing it. we don't have those problems here, because were not racist bed bug infested hicks like you. in fact, right now the black areas are getting more development that others in our city. and the hatians and jamaicans who are also black, have done great job starting businesses and their children have better stats for education than whites.

I was sorry to hear that Arlington turned into a toilet. I was born and raised in Jacksonville but left in 1977, and have never returned. But I was told by friends who still live there that Arlington went downhill when Dames Point bridge was built that connected North Jacksonville to fort Caroline road. And when the Mathews bridge stopped charging money to cross over, those two things had a big effect in the "population" of Arlington. I've seen Google maps street views of Arlington. Definitely looks ghetto now. Looks like Town & country shopping center is dead. Don't know when that happened. I worked at Iveys in regency square in 1976. Heard that regency is dead. Worked at the army Navy on Merrill road in 1973. Also the Pizza Hut on Merrill. Also went to Terry Parker, would have graduated in 73, but got my GED instead. Sorry to hear what's happened to my old neighborhood.
