Pierce broke my heart. Playing some of her best tennis at 30 years old and was so close to winning another slam. Glad she made the Hall of Fame. Such a nice lady.

Hearing Pierce, Azarenka, an Mattek-Sands makes me cringe in pain listening to them. It amazes me how long it takes for the trainer to come out to court when they’re screaming in pain, clearly needing immediate help, and everyone’s just standing around

Tennis lags behind greatly in this aspect. At football matches you have an ambulance on standby. What if a player has a heart attack or other serious condition.

The Mattek-Sands case was quite of a scandal, because she lied there crying in agony for nearly thirty minutes before someone arrived. In Wimbledon, not exactly an ITF $10,000 tournament. As people said then: "thank God it wasn't a heart attack".

There’s an embarrassing number of people in the comments who think that injured people have to prove themselves to be gravely injured in order for their pain to be valid. Since when was suffering a contest? Just because there’s no broken skin or bone doesn’t mean that the injury isn’t serious or even career-ruining like in Pierce’s case. If anything, tendon injuries (which don’t look as gruesome as bone injuries) are a lot more difficult to recover from.

I know a lot of footballers will throw themselves to the ground acting like they just received a right hook from Mike Tyson after the slightest brush, but at least when a player is seriously injured in football, it doesn't take long for medical staff and if necessary paramedics and ambulances to get onto the pitch to assist. From watching this video and others, as well as live tournaments on TV it seems to me to take far too long to get help to a injured player in Tennis.

I wonder if there are medical teams at tennis tournaments. I did not see any. If a player is badly injured on court then logically medics should go on to treat them. It's called common sense.
