Top 100 Games of all Time! (20-11) 

I love the top 100. Zee’s the reason that I bought Atlantis Rising. It was the 1st game I bought when I got back into the hobby. It’s great. I hadn’t played Clank! before seeing the Dice Tower playthrough of Catacombs. The playthrough sold me on trying Clank! I played regular Clank! and bought Catacombs right afterwards. I played a lot of Clank in 2023. Thank you for the work you do. You steer us towards games we might’ve missed.

I gotta say, I love the energy you guys bring to eachother. It's loose and silly but always gets me a good laugh. There are so many top 100 lists that are just boring, but you three are just plain funny and highlight lots of games I've never seen. I disagree with a fair number of the rankings but love to see all the different perspectives!

Clank catacombs has already given me as many good memories as original clank. Just had a game when I had to desperately try to flip tiles to get an artifact because everyone else got theirs. I just narrowly didn't escape. It felt so tense!

1:15:50 Spirit Island also has an incredibly granular difficulty setting, especially with expansions. A large part of it is they have a difficulty scale from like -2 to 12 (even higher) depending on which scenario, adversary (and adversary level), and various other modular rules you include. You can also make it individually harder/easier depending on your spirit choice. It’s even possible for each player to have a different difficulty level in a multiplayer game, for example one set of rules (e.g., one level of an adversary) for one player’s starting island and a different set for another.

I'm with Zee on Res Arcana. I so enjoy this game, which does so much with so little. Tight game that is worth looking into.

I am thrilled to see Nidavellir so high on Tom's list! I am a recent board game adopter, and that game stands out to me as one I'm really interested in playing, it seems right up my alley and I was kind of hoping I'd see it somewhere on someone's list (besides the people's, which was nice to see but is a much wider range). I certainly didn't expect it to be so close to the top 10 in one of them!

For Tom's info, they already make hearing aids that automatically connect to your phone. Whatever sound would come out of your phone (generally just phone calls for today's older population, but anything for future generations) goes straight to your ear. It's weird because I work with a guy who's always walking around "talking to himself" on phone calls. There's no earpiece or headset. You literally have no idea that he's talking on the phone.

My mom and her boyfriend both have hearing aids and they even get phone calls on it. It's very cyberpunk because we'll be talking and she'll just be like "oh! Wait sorry, I'm getting a phone call" and her phone's not making any noise or vibrating at all

Wingspan is nothing but pro-bird propaganda from the Big Bird industry. It’s good, but I can’t wait until we get Wyrmspan so we can no longer deal with the tired assertions that birds are real, so we can think about much less fictional dragons instead.

Some newer ear implants (aka cochlear implants) do have Bluetooth capabilities where you they can stream audio directly to the implant.

Disregree about Unsettled not being a convention game. I was interested in it when the Kickstarter came out. But I watched Dice Tower's 4 Squares review, and Tom said he wasn't that impressed. So I didn't back it. I decided to give it a try at Dice Tower East last year and loved it! So much so that I bought someone's All-In pledge and paid a premium. Thanks, Tom, for screwing me over! All this to say I'm really happy you had it in the library because it's given me a lot of fun since it recently got delivered.

I agree with what Zee said about loving games but not wanting to play them because you essentially need to start over. I traded Woodcraft in a math trade a few weeks ago, even though I loved it, because it sat on the shelf for a year because I couldn’t remind myself to play it. Same with Import/Export and a few others.

Federation is coming to BGA . I think that could give the game a considerable boost.

Endless Winter is NOT disjointed at all. The actions and bonuses from each mechanism all feed into each other, and the deckbuilding can be a HUGE component if you want to play that way.

Mike, I understand how you feel with Dune. Or, at least I think I do. Let me illustrate something that happened in my past first. I was newly entering the board game hobby, I had become intrigued by a game that was my favorite IP and promised a great time. Star Wars: X-Wing the Miniatures Game. Boy howdy was it fun. I loved it right away, began making purchases left and right, large and small. After a few months I had a large fleet of both Rebel and Empire, gifting the Rebels to my nephew (who I had roped into it as well), and wanted to keep expanding. After these few months FFG announced that 2.0 was to be released and in order to “play correctly” I now needed to purchase upgrade packs for my fleets, I had a few first order ships at the time as well. This completely took the wind out of my sails. People argued that the game “needed” a 2.0 and that it was “the better game” because of rules changes. It only felt like an invalidating experience, and a money grab. I was so new to this game even though it had been going on for some time at that point. Perhaps it needed 2.0, but not to me. Dune Imperium and Dune Uprising have given me the exact same feeling. The kicker is this, Dune Imperium is not a mature game. It has been out three years Tom, not four. You guys got it four years ago, the actual consumer didn’t get the release for about year after! I got into X-Wing at the wrong time, it is as simple as that and it sucked, but all they had to do with Dune Imperium was wait to publish the expansions and upgrades for the 2.0 game to come out. It appears that the changes, or fixes, to 1.0 were being worked on well before the release of expansions, or at least the second one. It feels rotten. Mike, maybe you and I don’t share the same reasons for feeling the way we do, and maybe you don’t feel like I do at all. I just thought that explaining how I felt in the past has shed light on how I feel now.

Anyone else feel like Unsettled is difficult? I’ve played six scenarios on the four easiest planets and we’ve won them all. I expect losses in the more difficult planets, but when beginners can jump in and win most of the time on half of the planets, I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s “hard!”

This is the first time I’m hearing Endless Winter placed alongside Dune Imperium and Lost Ruins of Arnak. I’m sure it’s a great game. But looking skeptically at Mike characterizing the trio as the big three.

So sad Five Tribes dropped so much on Zee's list... I am biased as it is my favorite game of all time and even though Zee still talked great about it, OH MY what a drop! Love the list, i feel like Tom is trying to troll us when he says Gloomhaven is more asymmetrical than Root though haha, so if so, mission accomplished :P In Root you are all playing different mechanics, in Gloomhaven each character is vastly different but the mechanics are effectively the same, so no, it isnt close to being assymetrical as Root.
