In case you liked it, the watch strap I had in this video: mikeobrienmedia.com/GW4-ExtremeSportStrap So what are your favorite apps for the Galaxy Watch 4 (or WearOS in general)?? Follow me on Instagram! @mikeobrienn instagram.com/mikeobrienn
Switching to WearOS is the best decision Samsung has done in a long time. They not only get more apps available on their smartwatches, but also makes their ecosystem more consistent ala Apple. It's a win-win situation for the consumers, Samsung and Google.
And Google working with Samsung to develop the software was their best decision. It was always samsung has the software google has the apps. So happy it's together now
Nope, all the apps here are either pretty lame or niche. WearOS 3 takes up 8 GB out of the box and have nothing new but less to show for with some missing advanced features from older WearOS. If the Galaxy Watch 4 had Tizen it would have 4-5 days of battery life which most people actually care about and have tens of thousands of watch faces to choose from which Google lacks.
Honestly I'm disappointed with the new WearOS, especially the battery life. The new exynos soc is SO MUCH better than the old exynos soc of watch 3, but the battery life is greatly reduced.
@@slayyou when I said software I meant the operating system. Tizen was always better than WearOS in my opinion so to merge them was great. So what I was saying was Samsung had the better OS and Google had way more apps in the store. So combine them. Hope that helped
This is my first smart watch and I love it!! (I was a smartwatch hater and only wear mechanical/automatic watches like Seiko, Hamilton, Breitling) But because of my work I tried a smartwatch, so I can see my textmessages without taking out my phone out of my pocket the whole time. I have also purchased the same strap as you in this video (original Samsung Extreme Sport band) I read, hear, see allot of comments that Tizen was better with battery life. I put on my watch around 06:30 in the morning and I take it off around 23:30 in the everning and still got 40% battery, so this is more then enough for my use. Im not wearing my watch when im going to bed. So its going on to the charger and in the morning I have a fresh battery.
Hi, I have the s21 ultra too and just bought yesterday the watch 4. When I try and insert my saved credit cards from Google wallet on my phone to my watch it keeps saying error. How can I fix it?
I love Water Drink Reminder, mostly because it's a complete app and it sync all the data with Samsung health. The only issue that I have, it's about the sync between the phone=>Clock (not the opposite), so in the app, the total count isn't always updated, but on the phone it's always updated, so at the end, it's not a big deal.
I love Strava but I'm disappointed with what they have on Wear OS so far. When you consider how many people are paying for the premium subscriptions, it's kind of insane that they have such a barebones app. I posted this feedback for Strava Wear OS, hopefully they make some improvements. 1) Orange on black contrast looks great indoors but it's difficult to see while running. 2) Can't see current pace, only average pace is shown. 3) Distance traveled is sooo tiny, impossible to see while running. 4) No map feature like the phone app. 5) No live segment support even with LTE. 6) Missing mile audio queues... really?? 7) GPS lock takes insanely long time.
Hey there Bobby, has any of your feedback been addressed since you posted this comment? Curious because I'm considering purchasing the premium subscription for Strava myself...
@@tsipliontsip no updates yet! Strava on Galaxy Watch 4 is still barebones. The app was better on the Galaxy Active 2 watch. Still no maps (to follow GPX routes or avoid getting lost), no swimming functions, and everything i mentioned above. I stopped using it and now just use the the default Samsung Health running app on the watch and then sync the runs to Strava.
Also need an Amazon Music app, which can store your offline/playlists, to compliment the app on the phone (for non Spotify users). I believe there is a smartwatch Amazon Music app, but exclusively on a Garmin watch at the moment. Needs to be made available on other devices...
I've used android watches for a while and they've always disappointed me. Got the this watch today and I've been impressed so far. Way more quick and responsive than any others I've tried before.
People complaining about the digital rotating bezel on the regular versions must have sausage fingers or sth. Sure it's not as satisfying as the classic's physical bezel, but it's very much usable. I just got the 40mm one and it's great.
I have the Watch 4 regular version 44mm and I can say that I never use the digital rotating bezel. I only use touch and scroll. The digital bezel is not appealing to me and it isn't practical.
I used the haptic on my Active 2 every now and then but honestly turned it off for the 4 . On both the swipe is so natural and accurate I find it faster and easier .

I just picked up a watch 4 classic. This is my first smart watch experience so I don't really have much to reference. That being said, so far, I'm kind of underwhelmed with the app selection. I love the watch and have no regrets but the way people have talked about the move to WearOS from Tizen I was expecting a bit more.
I'm conscious of this exact feeling and right on the fence to pick a classic lte up.. I know I'll look to get every feature out of one but for the price in Aus... Don't want to feel underwhelmed. Still happy with the purchase considering Wear OS?
@@About7ONinjas Yes I'm extremely happy. I'm not a power user or anything so what came on the watch was really all I needed. I'm also pretty heavily invested in the Samsung ecosystem so things like Samsung Pay and bixby that some people don't want are non issues for me. My only major complaint at this point is that there's currently no version of Samsung notes for the watch. I'm stuck with Google.
@@TheBlackg0at That's great info my man. Hoping with the Samsung/Google balance the accessibility offerings will grow with time. Appreciate the reply, looking forward to picking one up.
Do you like the 40mm the most for everyday use? Or do you only prefer it because you usually use it for exercise and its the most comfortable? I just want the awtch, i dont really exercise but I cant decide between the watch 4 44mm or 40mm. Im about the same size as you.
Hey mike, have you tested the watch 4 on LTE usage? I have seen many consumers complaining of over-heating issues where the watch 4 LTE goes into cool-down mode shutting down all functions when on LTE. It is specifically happening on LTE watch, even during 1 min of call or so. It’s Also draining battery fast on LTE. Plz can you test & clarify? Really concerning issue because not many reviewers are testing & highlighting this!
+1 really mike, u should make this happen. Also apple watch looks like a kids gadget, classic is for the OG Men, big bold and handsome💪🏻 Cant get over the looks of silver classic watch. This yr it looks 🔥
@@matthewpoulter313 I have seen women generally prefer the normal watch 4 or active 2 line without the bezel, because of cleaner look and slimmer profile, it suits their wrists a lot better. You don’t have to take everything in negative light every-time 🤦🏻♂️
@@matthewpoulter313 I think he was referring more to the size of the watch. I'm a 5'10 woman so naturally I'm more accustomed to bigger things like the Classic, but women who are of a more typical height, like 5'2 or under, may be more comfortable with the smaller/lighter models.
Can someone please help me with what health tracking sensors that are built into the watch: steps, heart rate, ecg, anything else? Dying to get one but just double-checking
Thx for the info! Im curious if you use the watch to control youtube? I do this ALOT at work, but my watch 3 uses the Media Plyr in watch to control yt, and it is bad!!! Is yt control and or stand alone use on watch 4 multitudes better or just eh? Thanks Mike!
DAMMIT!!! As much as the GW4 is a smart watch first and fitness watch second, I'm probably going to end up breaking down and buying a GW4. It just does so damn much and does it well. I also have a S21 Ultra so it makes even more sense.
I bought a fitbit sense...... had it for 2 weeks and hated it.... returned it for this!!! I have loved every things about it... only thing I would credit the firbit to over this is battery life. The fitbit lasted 5 days.... this one has to be charged everyday. But it really isn't a problem it cages fast and I just put it on the charger when i take a shower and it's good until the next day. I have an s21 (not ultra) and the two work seamlessly together... took me a little bit to figure out how to answer my phone from the watch when I had the phone right there..(helpful for driving) but once I did it had been so helpful... it is like a remote control for my phone, yet acts like a mini phone when you don't have you s21 with you. I can't say enough good things about this qatch... Also. The sleep tracker.... it outshines firbits 10fold. The health settings are actually easier to use then firbits and seem to be more accurate... The fit bit had my heart rate at 86 and I am at the doctors hooked up to their monitor and it read 110. This watch is so much more accurate. Just break down and buy it!!!! Neither watch was very good at recording stairs (but then I found out they record change in elevation not motion, which when you go up and down 4-5 steps 40 times a day, does add up... but you don't change your elevation enough for it to track) Not even worth being a deal breaker... Hope you get one and like it as much as I do
Hello i have the 40mm version no LTE. When i use the maps app for direction's, and instead of the steps i switch to the map view, it seems like the app does not use the compass and it just shows my dot moving through the static route until disappearing. It does not follow along or use my point as the POV point on the map. Anyone had this issue?
I just got this watch yesterday and so far thing only thing that I can see being somewhat useful is the ability to find my phone. Worth the price, not so much. Hopefully that changes otherwise I just wasted money for a watch that I wouldn't even use. I'm not big on wearing watches, or fitness either. Is that really all these watches are good for?
Nice video . Swarm seems an obvious ommision. Location clicking on watch . Most satisfying app I am using is Shazam, love how it looks and is far more discreet in a bar trying to recall the singer
You totally skipped over how Google Maps now requires a phone/lte connection all the time. Samsung's old HERE maps worked completely offline. Major downgrade.
I can't wait to see your take on the Fossil Gen 6 when it becomes available to you, Mike. Hopefully, Fossil gets one to you sometime soon. - praying to the Fossil Gods for you - LOL
Hi Mike, how do we get the Google Camera app to work on the watch? When I try, it says 'Connecting to phone...' and then 'Check your connection and try again.' Am not able to proceed further. I have a non-Samsung phone.
Can u use RU-vid on the watch? For me I love listening to the news without killing my phone battery. Am I able to utilize RU-vid and listen from the watch? Thanks for ur help bud
Which Roku app is the one you have on your watch? The ones that come up for me when I search do not look like yours. Developer info would be a great help please. Thanks in advance to anyone that has the answer.
i had to uninstall google maps from the watch, it is so annoying that when i drive in the car and maps runs on the phone, it will announce the turns on the phone anyway but it is buzzing the watch and shows the direction on the watch too, totally annoying and not possible to turn this feature off, only way to fix it is to uninstall maps from watch
Is there any problem with viber app at this watch? I can see from whom is the message but I can only read it from my phone and this isn't happening with Facebook messenger...
what is the name of the google camera app to add to my watch? I see a lot of other apps when I search google camera but I can't find one to link to my watch
Good video so thanks for that. Just sucks that I ordered mine 8/11 and just got word it's delayed until 10/1. At least I'll live vicariously through your videos.
Thanks for this video. It convinced me to wait to impulse purchase this watch. I want it to be more feature packed and Google assistant is a must have for me.
@@pbft.j Not yet but it certainly will. I just got it. I am actually waiting for it to arrive. I really like the BMI implementation. I had the Active 2 at some point, then moved to a Fitbit Versa 3 and now here. The Pixel Watch is also coming though.
@@whoever_81 Yeah I got a new Galaxy Watch 3 classic for $100 on eBay so I'm sticking with that for now. I got a GWatch 4 for a family member and the BMI thing is cool...but she doesn't really use it? I mean, she does, but it's not as important as the Blood O2 and Heartrate sensors. Which the 3 has. I'm sure that the Watch 4 will be a must-have when Google assistant is available, but it feels like Google is going to release their Pixel watch before Samsung even gets a fighting chance. The thing is...why stick with the Samsung Watch then? (Assuming the Pixel watch has decent cross compatibility with Android 13) I love the hardware of my Samsung everythings, but the software is lacking. A lot. With Google Assistant bringing so much to the table, I don't see really see why I would get another Samsung Watch over something else. They're expensive and there are very very good 3rd party options (mainly TicWatch from Mobvoi lol) - I was hoping for a great watch experience with the Google stuff. In my experience, it feels like it came out a year early. They're still fixing bugs and waiting on "future features" - at this point, I'll be surprised if they don't release a new watch before the watch 4 is Google Assistant capable.
I have 3 TCL 6 series with roku and tried the app on my GW4 and could get it to work for some reason. Some of the times it would not recognize the TV and other times volume would not work. So strange that you have no issues. There are many roku apps and maybe I had the wrong one. Who was the developer?
I can't transfer music how do you transfer music it says doesn't support the file . Witch one does it support ? I downloaded 7 mp3 player and nothing. anyone know?
