I think Mana Khemia will appeal to persona fans. It also has some socialization (with associated endings) and is set in a school setting. Those are where the similarities end, but the alchemy might be fun for those who like fusing persona haha
Smt iii nocturne (ps2 version) is amazing, the dificulty is incredible ,but once you get used to buffs and debuffs ,then the game becomes an absolute bliss.
Indeed. The amount of adversity you will experience in SMT III: Nocturne may seem over the top, but learning to overcome that adversity is one of the most satisfying experiences you can have in gaming and the difficulty in the gameplay perfectly matches the story. That is why it is my favorite game of all time.

There are a lot a great recommendations here and I'll just add a few things. If you like both the romance aspects and the time-allotment mechanic of the later Persona games, then you might enjoy the indie RPG Path of the Midnight Sun. While those mechanics are a bit simpler in this game, they have a similar appeal and you can try it out with less of an investment of time as the game can be completed in 20-30 hours depending on what difficulty setting you choose and how much side content you do. Regarding mainline SMT, I think a lot of Persona fans will enjoy it, but some will also dislike it. I say this as someone who considers mainline SMT to be my absolute favorite thing in gaming, so I would recommend this series to the kind of Persona fans who really enjoy the dungeon-crawling aspects of the series, who like to learn all of the technical aspects of the combat system, and who enjoy playing on the higher difficulty settings. The combat in mainline SMT does have some similarities to that in Persona, but it is also much more technical and unforgiving. So know going in that a mainline SMT game on the Normal difficulty will be more difficult than a Persona game on Merciless difficulty. Also know that while there are some dark aspects to Persona, mainline SMT is considerably darker in tone. Persona could be called modern dark fantasy, whereas mainline SMT is more of where grimdark modern fantasy overlaps with horror and the darker side of science fiction in tone. If you know these things beforehand and it still sounds like something you'd enjoy, then you'll probably become an enthusiastic SMT fan like me when you play the games. If these things sound like they might be overwhelming to you, then mainline SMT might not be for you. However, there are easier difficulty settings in recent mainline SMT games, so if difficulty is your only concern, then they still might be worth giving a try because you may still enjoy the game on a low-difficulty setting. I'd also like to mention that Soul Hackers 2 is kind of like a halfway point between Persona and mainline SMT in theme, tone, and gameplay, so Persona fans who are curious about mainline SMT might enjoy playing that game as a stepping stone between the two series. That game is also available for very low prices these days if you are going for a physical copy, so it won't be much of a financial investment to give it a try.
