Have you ever thought about why nicknames are recalled easier than "official" names? On this lesson you will answer this question. The trick is associate an emotion to the word you are learning. Our memory performs better when we associate an emotion to the content we are learning. Thanks Vanessa for putting this "theory" in practice. Please say hi to your husband and to the babies! Thanks for preparing this kind of material. My English is improving everyday thanks to teachers like you!

As an EFL teacher I find your videos really professional and totally agree with your approach to teaching and learning a foreign language. Although I consider myself as an "effective user" of English I watch your videos on a regular basis. They are very motivational, natural, realistic and entertaining. During my years of teaching and learning English I have always been looking for the "curiosties" of this beautiful language, such as onomatopoeic sounds of animals and the like; stuff that are hard to look up in dictionaries. One of the undiscovered territories of English for me is the so-called "motherese" words and I could really appreciate you making a video about those special "baby-words" which mothers and fathers use to talk to their babies. Thank you! And keep up with this amazing channel.

My favorite silly English joke is : - Why did the girl throw butter out of the window? - Because she wanted to see butter flies 😁
@priyanshidey4299
@priyanshidey4299 Год назад
Can you explain ?
@cookiecoocie
@cookiecoocie Год назад
@@priyanshidey4299 The joke lies in the word(s) "butter flies" which has two different meanings: 1. butter that is falling down, you can also say that it is almost as if it is flying (like a bird with its wings) because the way down from the window is pretty long and the butter is in the air for a few seconds 2. butterflies as the plural of butterfly (the animal) So the girl threw butter out of the window because she wanted to see butterflies. However, because the butter is falling down, it is "flying", meaning that the girl saw butter that flies.

Hi, Vanessa.👋 I'm Japanese learning English. Your video made me so happy🤣 and I found a similarity with joke between English and Japanese!! In Japan, two types of joke are famous. One is called nazo-kake. To use it, two words(or noun clause) are connected with one phrase(predicate), usually thought of as a formal joke(many comedians do it) The other is called da-jare. You use a phrase or word twice in one sentence in different expression. Latter is simple and known as a dad joke. A person who uses it usually makes others a bitter smile😅 Well, I want to give you examples of jokes, but it's hard for me😫forgive my poor English‼️

I couldn't possibly agree more with you. Actually l had fun with this kinda lesson, hence probably helped me. Now l could crack jokes in English even though English isn't my home language. I was so overhelmed assuming l couldn't understand jokes in English. I could understand you and found it useful to have this kinda lesson. You rock😊

Excellent idea this one of telling jokes. It's good because we memorize the vocabulary more.

Hi, from Argentina here. I understood all jokes but one, the one of the jalapeño. It's remarkable how watching US TV series or movies can teach you so much language. I was a Friends fan.

Very Professional work. Very concise information on each topic. Very, educationally wise, brief and comprehensive explanations. Beautiful facial expressions and exceptional use of body language as well. You are truely winners in your field. You both make english language learning quite fun through an attractive way of teaching. Keep up the good work.

In my mother tongue, Persian, there's a literary array called Ihaam, using a word with at least two meanings. It's used in all types and generes of literary not just funnies. I like it in romance and love poems and sentences.

So funny, silly, hilarious that I couldn’t refrain my laughter🤣🤣🤣. Tooth hurt-y sounds really like a guy who got his teeth hurt failed to pronounce the “th” sound of thirty🤣🤣🤣

Great video! Exactly what we need - just English conversation on any topic in a very pleasant, natural (and very understandable) performance! You just listen and remember. (God bless youtube for the auto-translation feature). Over the course of a year, listening to your lessons with Dan, I began to understand English quite well. You just talk about something or just talk - we just listen and remember. Thank you very much! God bless you :) We are waiting for new American conversations and American stories in your pleasant (and understandable) performance.

Hi Vanessa, these jokes are simply amazing! I think the explanation for the last one is that the man went to the dentist's at 2:30 and because he had toothache, the point here is the pronunciation of two thirty/ tooth hurty. It's always a pleasure to learn something new with you. Bye!

I really enjoy this show! I always found jokes and puns so hard but after your explanation, I think I can totally understand at least the 15 jokes you taught and laugh out loud. The feeling is sooooo great! This lesson is so helpful and Thank you, Vanessa! Currently, I am also listening to CNN 10 Student News every day, it's a 10 minutes program, and I can understand almost 90% of the content. But when the host tells a joke or pun at the end of the program, I always get lost. I guess to fully understand them requires more than just vocab and grammar, but also a deep knowledge of American culture. I'm still working on it!
