An interesting category. I really had to search through my favourite 500 films. I have included The Thing because this is the first time it has come first in one of my ranking lists. My favourites are: HM The Fly 1986 would be 16th 15 The Quatermass Experiment 1955 14 Arcade 1994 13 From Beyond 1986 12 Jason X 2001 11 They Live 1988 10 Deadly Friend 1986 9 Mutator 1989 8 Lifeforce 1985 7 The Terminator 1984 6 The Cabin In The Woods 2011 5 Inseminoid 1981 4 Re-Animator 1985 3 Chopping Mall 1986 2 Species 1995 1 The Thing 1982 The Faculty is high on my to-watch list, and i plan to watch it this month. I did enjoy Signs when i saw it, but i laughed all the way through it because I was already a fan of Scary Movie 3. I chose not to include the Hammer Frankenstein films or they'd have hogged part of the list.

My case for why The Thing qualifies as sci-fi horror: The creature is from outer space, and the characters are on a scientific expedition. Plus, Predator?

Take away that few seconds of showing the spaceship and it is just 100% a creature feature! It is a survival horror creature feature with sci-fi elements....Predator is a FTT13 film -if more of it was set in the dark and it was teenagers/college kids instead of guys who had a chance to fight back, it may as well be at Camp Crystal Lake lol....

right!? most people dont but if you give him a knife and a mask and have him stalking teenagers/college kids, it is Halloween... honestly, when you think about it, The Terminator is a very similar plot overall to Halloween

That's a great list. I loved your analysis of Signs, that's such a good movie. Colour Out of Space with Nicholas Cage is a cool scifi horror movie too. I'll definitely have to rewatch these. Great video!

Some interesting choices there but entertaining as always.. One under rated and under appreciated Sci fi horror movie is the 2013 film Odd Thomas.. Picked it up at the local supermarket and was blown away how good the film was.. would have loved to have seen that on the big screen.

Ghosts of Mars is such campy, ridiculous fun and one of my favourite John Carpenter films, along with They Live, Vampires and Assault on Precinct 13. Re-Animator is so blinking cool! Gross, funny and full of weirdness! I love Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick. All cool films. The Faculty is funny as fuck. I love Robert Patrick so much! I've loved Alien and Aliens since I was about 11 or 12. Especially Aliens. I'd say Predator and Terminator were sci fi horror. Killer monsters! I love them both.

Sphere is my favorite book of all time, the movie was pretty good. I don't know if I would Predator or The Terminator on a top sci-fi horror list. I would consider them action sci-fi first, but the horror elements are there. I guess they would eventually end up on my top sci-fi horror list but they would create a weird situation where they wouldn't be in my to 10, but would be in the top 10 of my top 20 list.

@Seather17 I think people think of them as action first now because arnold became such a massive action star....if Terminator is just action, then the Halloween and the FTT13 movies are action too... if Predator is action then so is Alien(s)

Just saw signs yesterday I went in blind and I didn't really like it as much as I wanted to I'll rewatch it next time with the demon interpretation. Loved the experimental cinematography and the performances and production design tho. Great list of sci-fi horror film.

Yeah, now I know for certain that you're also going to like ExisTenZ. It's Cronenburg at his best. I got Pitch Black on Bluray for the Directors Cut as it was my favorite of the Riddick films and it looks pretty good, I would be curious to see how it looks in 4K as so much of it is filmed in the dark. It was always hard for me to get into films adapted from Michael Crichton's work like Sphere as I read just about every book he ever wrote, including Jurassic Park. I knew you would have to mention Event Horizon as it's one I have also that I have shared with plenty of friends who ended up loving it. Lmfao, I literally got my friend to watch it by telling him it's like Hellraiser set in space. It's starting to freak me out just a little how much we seem to think alike on so many things, I'm still stunned you brought up Noises Off. I thought about that after that they really don't make films like that anymore and the comedy is rapid firing with dialogue that's fast-paced from such a terrific cast. I don't own it, but I would include Screamers on my personal list.

My argument for the aliens in Signs... "Why would they come here when water is toxic for them?" Why are humans going to the moon and trying to go to Mars? EVERYTHING there wants to kill humans. At least the aliens in Signs could get out and enjoy the day on a clear day.

My top 3 are terminator, alien, and #1 predator. The first 3 of all 3 franchises are sci-fi horror. Predator maintains it through 2, then sci-fi action for 2, then back to sci-fi horror for Prey, Alien is horror sci-fi then Aliens is sci-fi action straight up then it goes back and forth for the rest. Terminator is the only one of its franchise I’d say horror applies to.

It really is funny to think... Take "Alien" put it on a completely well lit ship in space and take "Predator" and make all those scenes completely at night. The movies are the same but vibe changes. Darkness plays into the horror headspace so much! I can't agree with you more.

Predator is basically a remake of Without Warning which is mostly filmed at night. Is it not really that good and Predator is a big improvement.

Interesting what you say about Signs. I'll have to give it a rewatch, because it changes things. Although I wouldn't consider They Live, Terminator or Predator as horror, all 3 are excellent sci-fi action movies.

the interesting thing is, Terminator and Halloween are basically the same movie -switch out knives and guns, switch out a monster cyborg for a monster in a halloween mask...both are single minded monsters hunting 1 woman and will kill anyone else who gets in the way....
