Yeah, the WF 2014 track was complicated, but they let trucks run broken and they had cars in that track. With today's competition, they would do better with that track.
To explain #3, if I remember correctly, the turf in the middle of the track had some kind of equipment below it that the venue didn't want MJ to risk damaging. I forgot exactly what it was, but MJ worked around it. Still ended up being a pretty solid show surprisingly enough As for #1, that lousy excuse of a track came as a result of poor communication by the venue. I heard that it wasn't until *the last minute* that the venue told MJ they didn't want dirt on their floor. Understandably, track crews freaked, and they had less than a day to think of a solution. Still didn't save the show tho ofc
I was speculating that they’d do the “Veglando” style or “elevated start” track for world finals 22. Fantastic to see that it’s been confirmed, especially since monster jam have given us NO additional information on the event since it’s announcement back in May of 2022.
I remember early 2000 shows at mn hhh metrodoom that era has monster jam memories burnt into my brain forever and got me hooked on monster jam for life.
5:53 I went to the event thinking it was going to be a disaster with the format and the weather. But everyone at the stadium enjoyed it. I’m probably going to get barbecued for saying this, but I kinda wish they could do different racing tracks at the world finals
Not entirely weird, but in 1989 or 1990 there was a track on the TNT series that had 3 or 4 straight line lanes at one. I think it was at Texas Municipal. Especially since it was the stage 1/2 heavier trucks, there was some problems stopping and controlling the trucks. That’s where Wild Hair wiped out Clydesdale. Also, I can appreciate the Everett Jasmer joke. I get he didn’t like where the sport was going, but being so picky you’d only go to open qualifying events when USA-1 was known enough to go to invitationals was stupid.
8:43 I went to one of the 3 shows, and believe me it polarized the public present to the point of wanting to boycott the producer of the event (RPMTV), firstly because they changed the venue, the years before the shows were at the Saprissa Stadium. Secondly they did not use the grass field because there was already been damaged by a great amount of concerts that took place that year at the National Stadium. They haven't been back here since that weekend.
4:06 - This one irritates me. I'm an Atlanta resident, and when I learned they wouldn't do events in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium I thought it was just for the Pandemic purposes, but Now they're constantly doing the events at AMS, and it's not a drive I'm willing to make.
Nowadays tracks are a good for certain stunts but they went downhill now... no unique obstacles anymore, almost no crushcars, and if they have crushcars they have already crushed roofs... i miss the old times
Hey you should do unusual monster truck events if you type it in and go to the wiki it will give you a page of it such as problems with the weather or venue problems or people running onto the track
@@ericfording3556 there were DIY chicanes with crush cars and not at turns 1-3, and 4-16 , and also the event was a bybrid paved-dirt thing like Atlanta, the track was normal but the racing lanes are interesting….
I live just north of DC. Since the mid 90s, I've seen area shows, MoCo county fair, Hagerstown speedway, and the one FedEx field stadium show. Weirdest, and coolest track I've seen in recent memory was this years Monster Truck Invasion track at Hagerstown. They went over the center guard rail.
The 2018 Minneapolis track design was not a bad track layout but it was a HORRIBLE racing competition for sure. It was so hard to keep track of who won or lost and at any time anybody rolled over. They would rerun the rac. December 8th 2018 Monster Jam has not done a racing competition that way since The strange track layout for Minneapolis was the track design they used in December of 2012. World Finals 20's starting line is almost like Stadium Super Trucks' figure 8 event at Los Angeles Coliseum where there was dirt covering the stairway.
Anaheim 1991 tops most of these -- could have been really great but there was no space for the outside lane to make the final turn so it was comically unfair. New Orleans (another Z-style track) 1991 was also weird with hardly any dirt causing the trucks to spin out. Anaheim 1989 was strange yet awesome and should have been done more. A lot of these on the list don't seem that weird, such as #3 and #2, which were kind of done at some TNT & USHRA events in the 1980s where they raced around (a portion) of stadium fields. Some of the TNT races like this from 1987 were just as strange as anything on this list (if not more so) because like Anaheim 1991, the lanes weren't even, so the inside lane always had a huge advantage. In general it was common to not cover the entire floor with dirt at a lot of venues. IMO, the Robby Gordon track is exactly what modern monster truck racing should be like if a pure racing series existed with new stage 4 racing trucks; except with crush cars, mud and other tricky terrain, and of course made more attractive for sponsors.
you should have put buck motorsports park as an honorable mention, it only uses one set of 6 cars for freestyle (excluding show 1 2022 as it also had an extra van stack)

I forget what the show was called but I saw a picture on Instagram a while back of an independent show that just had a giant pile of dirt in the middle.
And i remember Minneapolis Minnesota for 4 truck racing and that shit was bad shit insane with 4 truck racing. That night i did not even know they was gonna have 4 truck racing i heard they was gonna do that when at the show another fan told me they was gonna have 4 truck racing that night i was fucking hyped as fuck when i heard that and on top pf that was my buddies and his wife and kid first show ever that night as well they heard and seen it on tv but never been too a show and i wish they could of seen early 2000 shows life but they got 4 truck racing for their first show so they got a sick ass first show. so ya that was diffently something too remember for them and also me being a long time fan of monster jam . I wanna see more 4 truck racing the design of the track wasnt bad at all they just not use too running 4 tracks at the same time for racing and also dode not help they dont got any extra side things going on that was their issue that night the trucks was running really hot that night.
