Oh come on, it’s not that bad, it’s a different take on the song for sure and the original is still unmatchable, but I feel like y’all aren’t being fair and are just being contrarian since it’s become so popular. mrtheblr It was a different take on a song, yes, but it didn’t need to exist. Anthony is right in saying its modest instrumentation and subtlety is part of the appeal. Of course great covers exist, but this one makes me want to vomit. In my opinion

Samdara my family (mainly my mom) loved this song because she lost her dad when she was 8 and can relate to Lukas. I liked it, because of the Ingenue piano line and the lyrics are about his struggles as a child and I love that

Johnny Barrow just about nobody treated it as an original.the original is a classic and is well regarded.while the cover made little sense being so loud you cant deny Draimans vocals being just outsanding.

Christian, I assume you intended to reply to me, so I'll say that I am 148lbs at 6'0. I go to the gym about 4 times per week, bike regularly, and ski 3 times per week. I have 8% body fat. I wouldn't say anyone has a perfect body, but I don't feel the slightest bit hypocritical about shaming Trainor's obese body.
Can't stand it. In my opinion, it tries to sell all its ugly images as something so genius, when in fact they're pretty manic and out of touch. Real Friends on the other hand belongs to my favorite songs of the year. TLOP was just extremely polarizing to me.
I kind of like "Well, everybody's fucking in a UFO". For one thing, that "Well..." at the start of the repeated refrain just makes it sound so... conversational. Like it's try guys at a diner at Twin Peaks, one of them asks "So Frank, how's it going?" and Frank replies "Well, George, turns out everybody's fucking in a UFO". I do recognize that it's a fucking stupid song, though

Josh Viator well ever heard of a cover. Sure it sounds different but that's the point, they change it to fit their theme. The level of difference in quality between Charlie Puth's first album (the one with Marvin Gaye on it, Nine Track Mind) and his second (Voicenotes) is kind of amazing. Apparently he was "being pushed in directions he didn't want to go" on the first one and he himself compared it to "nails on a chalkboard". His second was self-produced and is sooooo much better.

Sampled a few other lists before I checked out Needle Drop's, and I gotta say Anthony is an outlier. "No" by Meghan Trainor topped most others's and yet it didn't even appear here.
Jack Casey Anthony has always been the unique one in terms of music reviews and lists,mostly because all those other lists take "hit songs" , the biggest , easiest and most obvious things you could review, and they never come out of that sphere. Meanwhile Fantano reviews a great amount of genres and artists from Pop , Hip Hop , Metal... almost any kind of genre , without putting too much attention on the mainstream.
Totally agree with the sound of silence cover...everyone loves it so much. I can't stand it. I feel as if David Draiman totally butchered the atmosphere the song was supposed to have because of his one vocal style he's been using for YEARS.
