Here are my Top 2 Splints to Stop Trigger Finger from locking, catching, or triggering! In this video, I share how you can use the Oval-8 ring for the smaller joints in your finger or you can use a different splint for your MP (aka knuckle!). The great thing is you have options when it comes to stopping your finger from triggering. 🙌 Let me and others know in the comments if these have worked for you! 💪 Don't forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE so I can see all your COMMENTS. 🙏
@@bighouse5804 Yes but not frequently. You have to space them out. Ask your hand specialist for the proper interval. Some doctors say 2-3 injections are safe then surgery if the problem persists. I use a surgeon who claims there is nothing in the literature that specifies a limit. He's careful to space them out.
@@sspiegler You can find the Oval 8's on my online store here- virtualhandcare.com/store/#!/Oval-8%C2%AE/p/41316733 or on Amazon here- amzn.to/3jcTsR1. Often multiple sizes are needed. You can also find the knuckle block here-amzn.to/2Yh5YF6
Try wearing the splint or splints when they don't prevent what you're doing, such as all the time you're asleep, and possibly most of the day. I can type and mouse and draw wearing an oval-8 style splint on the PIP joint. Eventually, if you're lucky, you may find that you can flex the joint that use to lock normally when not wearing the splint.
Hi- Very useful information. The Oval 8 is frustrating because it constantly comes off no matter if I use a snugger size or not. When washing dishes it comes off. Changing clothes it comes off. Gardening, it comes off. Grocery shopping, it comes off. Even when swinging arms while walking, it comes off! I even bought a sleeve to wear with them but those just roll off. Not good for an active person. I have lost too much money on those. Going to try wearing the MP splint at night and doing hand exercises and see how it goes. I am a very active person who cycles, boats, gardens, sews, basically use my hands all the time and need to be able to make a fist to tie boat lines, hands on bars for cycling, driving, etc. being restricted by an MV spint makes those activities dangerous because I can't do the activities one handed. ARGH. Will report back after several weeks of my plan. Thanks so much. I needed to know exercises are important.
Ive have had an finger PIP joint injury on my middle finger around 7 years ago.. since then, my PIP joint has been thickened and swollen and the swelling actually had never gone down completely.. there is also some low grade instability in my PIP joint.. but i do not have any movement restrictions and pain.. is it actually normal, that i have now permanent swelling around the joint and the swelling not going down?
Hello Michelle,, I bought the Handfix one. While it does help to a limited degree and is better than nothing, it also bends a lot because the split inside of it must not be made of metal. This split appears we made of plastic and very flimsy. Also even though I tighten it, it is very easier for it to get too loose. So it has been difficult to rely on this splint.
I ordered the O splints several months ago but they are very stiff and awkward. I much prefer your bandaid around the joint suggestion. It keeps my ring finger from totally closing so I don’t get the trigger pop, it is lightweight and comfortable.
Hello, thank you so much for your videos as I have learned alot. I was diagnosed with a thumb sprain back in March and I was doing your thumb exercise videos. I know think it might have developed into trigger finger as it is still swollen, hurts along the inner tendon and pops alot. Can I tape/bandage the thumb until I get a Oval 8 device? Thanks so much again.
Thank you, Michelle, for your wonderful advice. Always helpful. I have been wearing the Oval-8 on my left middle finger PIP joint for a week now. Along with doing your recommended "3 top trigger finger exercises" religiously, I have noticed a remarkable improvement. The one thing I find impossible to do with the Oval-8 is holding a pen for writing. So I remove it for that. But then I cramp and trigger! Luckily, I don't need to do much writing. I have read that placing a large round piece on the pen itself can help. I think the idea is to decrease the finger flexion by increasing the diameter of the pen. Any ideas if that would help and where to find something like that?
Yes bulking up the pencil can definitely help! I also have this video here that gives several ideas that can help with writing -ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DpNiGiEORW4.html. Even though it’s for the thumb some of the tips sill help the fingers too! 🤗
I has a shoulder dislocation with BPI injury on 10 of March 2021 know my shoulder elbow has full movements with slightly strength but my wrist and fingers have little movement but are stiff after massive exercise they go again after 1hour so kind ly let me some advice and exercise for that .
Hello there 😄 My wrist surgery was done due to glass cutt Median ulnar radial nerve was repaired It's been around 2 months My fingers joint are blocked Wrist too Please reply with a video 😥
I am the opposite, first plagued in my left hand , then my right with Dupuytren’s contracture and now have been getting trigger fingers. I had a cortisone shot for my thumb and then the ring finger . They act up and trying to nip it in the bud before the pain gets 2 bad as you can only have 3 shots in the spot if it goes on then surgery. Funny they say they are not related even though it is the tendons in the hand .
Hi Michelle, thanks for your channel! I am a right-handed guitar player and have trigger finger in my left middle finger (fretting hand). I’m thinking the MP joint splint might be the ticket to allow me to play guitar? Please advise. Thanks a lot! Cheers!
@@EliasKowalski-p1o still bad. Gonna have to have tf surgery next month, AND C-MC (basal thumb joint-osteoarthritis) surgery at the same time. Not looking forward to it, but in the long run, end of pain.
@@davidjohncox7333 hmm i understand.. hope you get well back soon.. do you also have some residual swelling and thickening around your finger joint, that lasted from the injury?
I am experiencing trigger finger at my right thumb. It freaked me out the first time I felt it. The first use of my finger in the morning has been extremely painful. I've just started using the oval 8 splint. It definitely restricts me from bending and causing more damage. Is it wise to wear the splint while sleeping at night or should I slip it on as soon as I wake up? My fingers tend to be a little more swollen in the morning.
Hello...Ok ,wearing those things ,will they by the time cure trriger finger by wearing them on atacked area or there is no help for trriger finger at all..Would this finger ever recover completely? Thank you, beautifull as always:)
You measure the joint or joints it will slide over. I always suggest purchasing 2-3 sizes because our fingers/thumb swell naturally. You can find one here- virtualhandcare.com/store/#!/Oval-8%C2%AE/p/41316733
Interesting that only ONE of the three joints (either MCP, or PIP, or DIP) needs to be braced/splinted/immobilized. Marketing of finger splints does not seem to reflect that fact. Thank-you for the facts!
Hairline fractures of...what? There are so many different finger fractures/injuries and different splints needed for them. I'll add that to my list of videos I need to do!
Where can I get an an Oval 8 ring for my trigger finger in South Africa? Do I need to go a someone like you to get it fitted or can I buy perhaps at a Pharmacy? I've never seen them in SA.. The ones we have here are straight with a sort of metal sides and are too long for my small fingers and cut into the palm of my hand because it is so deformed..
Unfortunately, I am not sure where you can find one in SA. There may be a hand therapist that can custom make one for you. You can find them on Amazon too so perhaps it can be shipped there.
That seemed weird to me as well. I've had 6 trigger finger surgeries and the worst treatment was any and everything dealing with lessening bending. Consequently, and to her point, u want to bend it to a point. When u impede bending in most aspects, it stiffens the tendon, which was always bad news in my cases bcoz the when the tendon stiffens to the point of being naturally unable to glide back and forth thru the sheath, when it finally get stuck, to straighten your finger back out is going to be excruciatingly painful.
@@Steelersbaby six fingers surgeries?! ! How r u coping now? Did u attempt cortisteroid injections? The pain stages increase very rapidly. I am really worried and depressed.
@@freda9047 Hi Freda, it's extremely frustrating to be dealing with this. No one is telling me why this keeps happening to me. How can there be absolutely no explanation. I can see overuse as a culprit in a case or 2 but now a 7th surgery is on the horizon. That's right, another finger is now getting stuck and is catching on the sheath. To answer your question about the cortisteroid injections, my surgeon never seemed interested in them. I never had confidence in them either after researching the effectiveness of them.
@@Steelersbaby i am also ingesting max dosage recommended joint supplements. U could probably try this out. Seems to be helping reduce/hide the pain (tho cringing sensations seems to linger). Praying hard
I mail ordered an mpblock type of splint, and while waiting for it to arrive I went with a makeshift solution of using duk tape wrapped three times around the finger so that it partially but not completely immobilized both the base of the finger and the knuckle joint. This seems to have worked well as the locking did not trigger for the entire ten days I was wearing it. Note that my actual splint has arrived I am trying to put it on. It seems to work on both of the same joints, although to a lesser degree. I find that the brace striking the palm seems both unnecessary and uncomfortable, and I'm very tempted to ignore the splint and just go back to using tape.
@@EliasKowalski-p1o the splint I got I ended up wearing for just under a month before it became unusable. I had expected it to last longer but it didn't. So I went back to the tape method. I had to wear the tape for about 8 months but now my finger does not lock anymore. It does feel tight though, especially when I make a fist. It's stiff and the skin pulls as if it's not meant to move that far. And I've lost a little dexterity. I used to do magic tricks - palming coins and stuff like that - and some of the tricks I can't do properly with that hand anymore. (Can still technically "do" it, just slower and easier to spot). Still, the locking stopped, so it's an improvement.
