I honestly think the Gewehr 98's iron sights should've been #1 on this list. The infantry variant is surprisingly usable with how good the iron sights are, despite its longer range sweet spot.

finally someone who gets it, i actually prefer the infantry version because the sight is so damn clean even at longer ranges, plus it removes the scope glint which is a great bonus

This comment doesn't really pertain to the iron sights although I was surprised by a few, but I always feel like BF1 had the best sounding guns, kill sounds, environmental noises and general atmosphere for a chaotic battle. BF 3 and 4 had it nailed down in the point of player interaction to make a hectic battle, but I feel like BF1 had a better setup for it.

I completely agree, the grit of the game and the sounds were far better than the ones before. And I still play both bf4 and bf1. The one after BF1 doesn't count. Much like BFH...

@@jessegm1 idk i have 300 hours on bf4, 160 hours on bf3 and 550 hours on bf1 and i can say, that neither of those games have mechanics made for noobs who can't aim, all three games are great, but i can agree with the fact, that bf1 handled the atmosphere the best

The PP2000 really took me back to the BF4 beta. That gun was my first favorite gun and BF4 is still my favorite shooter of all time.

I never liked the Ross MK3 iron sights personally. Btw I would add the Parabellum in this list which might seem odd but I really like them.

Ever since I found out that on the M1903 experimental in BF1 you can switch the "fire rate" to make it a bolt action M1903 without that bulky thing in the back it has been the only thing I have ever used. Makes me think that it deserves a spot in the top 5 of this list.

Totally different. Scar H has a much thicker front sight, plus it looks like you're aiming through a huge stump rather than a thin ring

Ross mkIII irons are my personal favorites in the series as well. The infantry variant in bf1 is my go to weapon.

The ross is a good pick for #1, funny anecdote about that rifle, irl (despite being one of the most unreliable rifles ever adopted) it was so accurate that some people wanted it banned from military shooting competitions because it was “A target rifle pretending to be a service weapon”

I agree with most of these, but haven't played battlefield hardline at all or BFV much. Those FG42 sights look so great, as do those of the G43 But the G98 sights from BF1 are my favourite, even better than the ross

They look great, then you start shooting and it moves back and forth with the barrel and doesn’t really stay stable. But yes why no AN94

It suddenly makes a lot more sense why a lot of these are my favorite guns. Lebel, lMG08, RSC, Selbo, Ribey. Will have to try out the PP-2000 and SG-553 more, I see. The only one I really don't like on your list is funnily enough the Ross... It gets to small for me, and the circle in the middle keeps throwing me off 🍻👍🏻

If you’ve ever played back to basics in bf1 as the French faction the level has some weird blocky sights that are much different than the standard lebel variant.

I love the FG-42 in BFV but the jiggles from the rear portion of the sight make me nauseous. Usually means I have to slap on a reflex or 3x sight.

yeah, that is the only issue i have with the FG’s irons. because of the nature of them, if you’re strafing about in ADS they seem to sway a lot which is a little offputting sometimes

The Lebel 1886 sights in BF1 used to be even better with the post basically being a needle but it got nerfed at some point.

My favorite iron sights belong to the Lawrence of Arabia smle rifle. I got a 79-0 game with that and the mark VI revolver giving me a perfect match

In battlefield 1 I used iron sights all the time for all kinds of weapons. In battlefield 5 though; semi autos, self loading, bolt actions you name it can't use iron sights for some reason. Maybe it's because of 3d spotting not available anymore

The iron sights needed to be good, otherwise gunplay would feel super clunky in tandem with the random bullet deviation the game had.

It surely didnt help anything. anything more than 3 bullets in full auto and you couldnt hit the broad side of a barn. It was absurd. I lost so many gunfights to someone going full auto and being lucky with spread.

Dude the MG14 should have been on this list its iron sights were small unobstructive and great for any range the only thing holding that gun bank was game mechanics and barring those it was a God gun and the 4 th h fastest killing weapon outside snipers and shotguns

I hate the sight view of 1906 in BF1-this damm thing moving on your screen and block the view. I really like the sniper variant... Other really good iron sights in BF1 IMO: M95 sniper-really good AA sights -I find them really good, besides the Chuchat and Lewis guns... Honorable mention: M1903 rifle in BF1 has really good iron sight but most of the times you cannot use it, because the only variant to utilize it is experimtal variant with this device... When you switch to botl action fire mode than you can see the really amazing sight

Late response but yes, it does, however, it isn't optimal to use that variant. You get extra bloom and slower recoil/ bloom recovery for no actual benefit (the rate of fire is the same as the semiauto). The bloom recovery is part of why guns sometimes felt inaccurate in that game: so many people didn't bother to learn how to recover their accuracy penalties when spamming shots.

Why would a weapons designer intentionally make their iron-sights awful? It seems like that a lot, especially in modern times.

Smaller Irons tend to be more accurate, and IRL, you leave both eyes open. In a game, the Irons will be in the center of the screen, making it seem like the character is shooting with one eye.
