This video has been long gestating all of last year and finally, it sees the light and I have it aired. Yes launched today. Top 20 Cumin and Caraway Fragrances with 2 honorable mentions. A note that I slowly fell in love with and now I'm obsessed with. What is Cumin? What is caraway? Cumin is sometimes confused with caraway. Cumin is hotter to the taste, lighter in color, and the seeds are larger than those of caraway. Cumin's distinctive flavor is strong and has a warm aroma due to its essential oil content. I got into cumin as a note in perfumes through sampling Rose 31. By accident I was sent Diptyque - Eau Mage EDP when I actually ordered a 2ml sample of Benjoin Boheme. I was a little dissapointed but I tried Eau Mage EDP and I'm quite enjoying it. What do you think of Eau Mage EDP release and how does it compare to the original release? I notice a lack of reviews of both on RU-vid. Thanks for the video :)

Great topic! My experience of caraway in fragrance is pretty much nonexistent, but I love the cumin in Serge Lutens Fleurs d'Oranger, so I'm eager to try more perfumes of this type. Great description of these spices' differences in food, and I completely agree - caraway really is "diet cumin"! What a great phrase!

I got Perfume Parlour’s dupe version of Kingdom. It’s obviously not identical - like a one dimensional version of it, but kills the craving instead of using the real thing.

Sebastian, have you tried Jo Malone's Black Cedar & Juniper ? It's one of my favorite fragrances from that house . It's got a very refined, sexy, cumin note ( not the B.O. type).

Curious to check some of these fragrances. At least from cooking stuff, cumin to me has never smelled like body odor. Also b.o. some times reminds me of onions, but not of cumin.

As I am from Tunisia north africa we use cumin a lot in cooking and i live it so much i love its taste, and its smell of course , it adds wormth and spiciness to the fragrance.

Hello Sebastian!!! I don't like cumin , I don't know there's something about this smell that repels me. But I don't know perhaps in a fragrance with the right ingredients I will like it. I was thinking can you make a video with the 10 or 20 fragrances someone must have . I mean smells so great that everyone must own 🥰😉( for example lately I smelled coromandel and I think it's so great that everyone must own it)

I don't know about the oils used.. in kitchen, yes caraway is the lighter dusty cumin.. almost like cedar cumin combo.. way less bo. Immortelle is probably what's making the caraway effect in Ganymede. One of the many facets of immortelle. Cumin can be too much, but when it's used or done right, it adds the golden opulence quality especially to orientals. I love it in Danger Parfum.. the perfect amount.. classy and elegant. Great topic and list.. and all that good stuff 👍🏽.

I only watched this to see you be excited about perfumes. 😉 I don’t love the BO scent. I thought I had one perfume, (Vaara) with a bit of a cumin note, but it’s not listed. Funny, I sprayed a little on my arm, before the shower, to decide if I wanted to smell that today. I prefer it when it’s warmer, and this morning was a bit foggy. So, not today.

Cumin is THE secret ingredient in alot of cult favorite fragrances. I like it to a top to mid note complex musk. When used right it can't add depth and nuance even modify natural notes to produce something that was never introduced.... JPG Le Male, The OG formula of La Nuit de L'homme(it was changed from cumin to caraway because the trends grew to fresher styles) Andy Tauer LDDM and several others use cumin to mastery levels. Working on a musk fragrance recently and introduced cumin to ambrettolide and it amplified the berry sparke facets within. Cumin is fun to work with

I follow up on my previous comment cause L’Autre has become not only my favourute cumin frag but my signature scent. It is that good! True the opening is extremely pungent and cumin-y (if that is a word), but then it settles on a supersmooth patchouli, which envelopes the spices in a very sexy embrace. Apart from the opening, which is kinda beastly, the fragrance evolves into a very clean feeling, don’t get scared by the cumin

I adore cumin and I discovered niche perfumes with L’AUTRE . I remember sniffing it the first time in Rome and falling in love with it. And it was summer. I didn’t smell body odour but Africa and India. When I wear it I feel sexy and far away from all the modern cities. It’s great. Another favourite is FAREB by HUITIÈME ART. When I wear it my friends tell me I look like a walking curry chicken but I don’t care❤️

I have a barbershop take on the note of cumin for you Sebastian. It's from Proraso, and it's called 'wood and spices.' On the top you have cumin and saffron and in the base you have sandalwood and vanilla. Cedar and violet are also present, and I really enjoy this scent in the colder months. Try it if you are not familiar and tell me your thoughts 😉

Thanks for the video 👍👍 I love cumin, all everything cumin especially in food. Glad they have it in perfume. With my body/skin chemistry cumin bring warmness into the scent, and sometimes a hint of sweetness. My favorite and my 3rd bottle of Kenzo Jungle L’elephant. I guess I do like cumin and cardamom because I own quite a few of the fragrances: Salome, Baccarat Rouge 540, EDP, Absolute Pour Le Soir, Rose 31, Al Oud,, the Hermes, and SL Fleurs de Oranger!

Generally I like the note, to me cumin can give "body" to a fragrance just like patchouli does. I like Declaration Parfum and Al Oudh. Sometimes it can be somewhat misplaced though, in Giorgio Beverly Hills for Men it takes away from the freshness for example. I do not get body odour whatsover from cumin...

Caraway and cumin aren't *quite* as similar (to my nose at least) as you suggest. I'd actually consider them two distinct, discrete notes, note one. For caraway, think rye bread, as most often it is baked with caraway. It's sweeter, a bit more reminiscent of fennel and anise. Whereas cumin, while another warm spice, is more harsh and bittersweet, resinous, and far more reminiscent of body odor in overdose. Both, however, obviously find use in complementing animalic and musk notes. Great video, though! Always a pleasure...

I love cumin as long as it's not drowned out by cloves, which it often is in a "spicy" formulation. I hate caraway as a taste but I think I'm OK with it in fragrances (for example Trumper Eucris)

Lots of years ago I felt in love with EDP by Guci (the brown one - its not available anymore) and I didnt understand why. I felt it like a little bit masculine, like to wear a man huge... I like how you can sell L'Artisans Al Oudh:-D If I had not smelled it on my own, I would almost be triggered to blind buy it! For anyone having such foolish thoughts now, DO NOT do it. Bertrand is the man when it comes to oud, but here we are entering - I'm not afraid to say that - "toilet" territory. I cannot imagine anybody seriously wearing it in public (and by public I do not mean gathering of fragheads). Very very challenging smell. Interesting, high quality, no doubt, but I would really not describe it as a great wear. Makes me wonder how the rest of the top 5 smells like. Intriqued by the Diptyque, never heard about that one (probably for same reason as Al Oudh). Great overall video and Im sure it will attract lots of views. I take even such a smelly mess as Al Oudh over any sweet cloying vanilla pleaser recommended in the "Top 10 Date Night fragrances" some fellow youtubers release every other day. Thanks!

I am wearing Danger Parfum at the moment and the fact that I can distinguish the cumin is aggrevating me. I wish cumin would be removed from perfumery altogether.

Persian saffron from zegna is big cumin. I think the perfume would be amazing with a different spice

I dislike this note. Admittedly I am not fond of the scent of Cumin even in culinary use. The Cumin in Royal Water (Creed) hadn't aggrevated me in the past but now that I've smelled the cumin body odor effect off other fragrances I now dislike Royal Water also. Every so often I will try fragrances with cumin as ideally I can get to the point were I enjoy most every fragrance note. I keep trying Jubilation XXV Woman to see if I can come around to cumin.

I love the BO aspect of cumin. No, you can’t shame me. Lol The best fragrances are counterbalanced by smells that might not always be pleasant to all noses ie: indoles, musks, civet, patch, oudh...Favorite cumin heavy scent of all time is Kingdom from Alexander McQueen.
