Thank God you included a session musician, Carol Kaye. Member of the WRECKING CREW. (who definitely deserves their own video! Real musicians understand this concept and history ). I was starting to get pissed bc I thought you'd leave out The Ox., LOL,The GodFather of Bass! But you DID leave out Rudy Sarzo ☹️.

Jack Casady. A pathinder and highly skilled innovation. Jack's melodic bass lines danced on the edge of melodies. Back in the days of the Playboy Magazine Rock and Pop poll, Jack was the first bassist to out poll Paul McCartney . (I am a little skewed toward Jack as I studied under him for two weeks two summers in a row.Jack's versatility was demonstrated in the acoustic blues of the 40s and 50s revival of Appalachian blues with lifelong pal Jorma Kaukonen .

James Jamerson, Duck Dunn, and Carol Kaye have to be in their own class. In popular music, they are the foundation that everything else is built on. They are legends in a class by themselves, serving the song, yet shining through in every note they lay down.

I was born in 1951 and when THE BEATLES burst onto the scene , I loved PAUL MCCARTNEY'S bass playing on his HOFNER viola style bass guitar . I first started on piano , then drums , then six - string guitar , then bass guitar and I always tried to copy PAUL MCCARTNEY'S style of playing ! This was not easy as I found out ! My mother was a professional pianist , so I have a very big musical influence . One of my best days that I remember is when my friend "Rick" saw and bought an authentic HOFNER BASS GUITAR (CIRCA 1964) from a pawnshop back in the 1980's . Unfortunately ,it was at his mother's house and they had a flood in 1996 and it totally destroyed that bass ( I cried ! ) . I have since bought a retro HOFNER BASS GUITAR for a little over $400 as I loved that style of bass very much !

When it comes to originality, Geddy lee takes the prize. Nearly every great bassist that came after him was inspired by him. Great bassists, like Les Claypool, looked to Lee as their hero. Very similar to the way every great drummer looks to Neil Peart as their inspiration. Those two were the greatest rhythm section ever in rock. They sounded like a band by themselves, which is the main reason that Rush sounded like a 6 or 7 piece band, except with only three guys. Not another three piece band that could create such a wall of sound. Geezer. Butler is often and underrated bassists. He laid down some of the most incredible bass licks, filling out the rhythms whenever Tony would go into a guitar solo. You never really felt a drop out of the guitar thanks to Geezer shredding bass licks. He has always been one of my gator rite bassists of rock history.

i agree with most of this. And I would pick the "Ox" as # 1 too. but sadly, there is no Rob Grange. Rob was Ted Nugents bassist thru his most musical period of Call of the Wild to his last performance w/Ted at Cal. Jam 2. You listen to those records, Tooth, fang and Claw and Nugent and rob is fantastic. Live, i didn't know ted had left the stage as rob filled in. Strong, soulful and dynamic. One of the best. Rob Grange deserves to be way up on that list.
