I was under the impression he was implying that if she made a list of her top 25 horror films of all time (not just the '00s), that there would not be many from the '00s.
There’s so many more like Hostel, Drag Me To Hell, Vacancy, 30 Days of Night, 28 Days Later, Dead Silence, The Grudge, The Strangers, Final Destination, The Last House on the Left, The Ruins, Jeepers Creepers, The Collector, Orphan, etc. 2000s was a great era for horror.
They can be wrong when they lead to people being hurt or discriminated against ("homosexuality is wrong, that's just my opinion" 🙄🙄🙄). But... not with regard to MOVIES...
Missing that I adore: The Unborn Orphan My Bloody Valentine (guilty pleasures) The Last House On The Left The Collector The Uninvited Sorority Row (Guilty Pleasure) The Strangers Prom Night (Guilty Pleasure)
I don't hate most horror movies but the strangers I did not like at all. The uninvited was really good. And the collector is just a good movie. Others are good too.
The grudge is one of my all time favorites. Maybe my 1st favorite ever! Jeepers creepers was great when it came out. Watched it recently and if they could have made the creeper scarier. Other than that it’s great! Love Justin Long and Eliza Dushku.
Jennifer’s body clearly ripped off a lot of ginger snaps....there’s a RU-vid video that compares them side by side. Ginger snaps has amazing writing and characters while Jennifer’s body is like the commercialized watered down hollywood version. The likeable parts of Jennifer’s body were the parts that ginger snaps already did much better... in my CORRECT opinion lol
I watched your “found footage” list the other day. I agreed with quite of few of your opinions. So when I hadn’t seen, nonetheless heard of, the movie Creep. I asked my boyfriend to download it and last night we watched it. Oh my goodness. I see why it’s on your list. Now I’m binging all your recommendations and compiling a list of must sees.
I feel like a lot of hatred for Jennifer's Body came from people just dismissing Megan Fox as an actress. I recall an article crediting the #metoo movement for reviving interest in the film. I liked it when it came out though.
PrettyLuckie as a card-carrying lesbian i adore jennifer’s body (plus the soundtrack is just a banger), i aspire to be as intelligent and confident as megan fox.
So many people have been talking about Jennifer’s Body lately, and I am LIVING FOR IT. It is finally getting the recognition it deserves! I will never forget the first time I watched it, it had such an impact on me.
I am so glad I found out about this channel and this video is awesome but I feel you forgot a few great movies such as : - Friday 13th ( 2009 ) - The orphan ( 2009 ) - The Orphanage ( 2007 ) - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ( 2003 ) - The Texas chainsaw massacre : The beginning ( 2006 ) - Prom Night ( 2008 ) - Drag me to hell ( 2009 ) - The Collector ( 2009 ) - Zombieland ( 2009 ) - Sorority row ( 2009 ) - The Grudge ( 2003 ) - Mirrors ( 2008 ) - when a stranger calls ( 2006 ) Great video though, you have a new subscriber
My list -session 9 -the others -thirteen ghost -the devils backbone (love the story) -1st resident evil -the unborn -ghost ship -darkness fall (guilty pleasure lol) -the ring -the grudge -the eye -28 days later -drag me to hell -saw -dawn of the dead -the amityville horror -house of wax -the skeleton key (underrated) -silent hill -1408 -Dead silence -30 days of night -the orphanage (great story) -trick r treat -the haunting of Connecticut Honored mentions -May -dead end -100 feet -fragile a ghost story -dark water -case 39 -gothika -mirrors
It's an okay movie, but it's not a good Silent Hill movie. Maybe if you've never played the game-- or played it once and forgot, or don't love the first four games, then I can see someone think it's great or a great adaptation.
Also 28 days later 30 days of night The Strangers Rest Stop Vacancy Boogeyman When a Stranger Calls Hide and Seek Cry Wolf Last house on the left I Know Who Killed Me Prom Night Blood and Chocolate Exorcism of Emily Rose Hannibal The Orphanage Five Girls Secret Window (if you can count it as horror, more suspense/psychological thriller) Haunting in Connecticut American Psycho Shrooms Dead Silence Those are just the ones on my shelf from this era Great era! “only 2 or 3.....” 🤨
Oh man, I love this list but I am sad noone ever talks about my then favorites: Mirrors and Dead Silence. I just LOVED these movies. Also, the Poughkeepsie Tapes! That was one of the few movies that genuinely scared me and I know what scares each of us is very subjective but I just felt that movie to my bones.
You might want to check out a 70's movie The Other starring Uta Hagen. It shares similarities, but Two Sister definitely is influenced by it in the best ways.
@@stevenbrown1225 ohhhh never heard of it but checked out the trailer and it looks good! Admittedly I havent seen a lot of horror movies from the 70s so if you have any more recommendations, id love to hear them.
Some films I love that if you haven’t seen I really recommend: - 28 Days Later... (2002) - One Missed Call (2003) - American Psycho (2000) - Shaun of the Dead (2004) - The Host (2006) - Thirst (2009) - Triangle (2009) I know American Psycho and Shaun of the Dead are comedies really but they have horror elements so I’m gonna count them anyway.
Miles Edwards one missed call the first one and the sequel are one my my fave horror movies ever and they’re so underrated compared to the ring and the grudge
Do a “top based on real events favs”! I don’t watch a lot of horror, but I do enjoy horror based on true stories. I’d like to know your favs and add them to my list to watch :p
The Orphanage is probably one of my fav movies from this era. I actually forgot how many movies I LOVE from this era so thank you for making this video!
The ring traumatized me as a child. My first nightmare ever that I experienced a sleep paralysis hallucination I was scared so badly. It was odd, because I woke up and saw the fiery tree on my wall, not even the spooky ghost girl who climbs out of the tv.
I agree that the early 2000s is the best era for horror as well! Most of my favourites are from around then and I definitely feel nostalgic watching them since I grew up with them. This list was so fun to watch! Doing the rest of the decades would be so cool to see! Love your videos ☆
Literally thought I was the only person who knew The Haunting of Molly Hartley. I grew up on that movie so it’ll always have a special place in my heart
Rebekah Durance this was the first haunting movie I saw because my mom would not let me watch it. I had to watch it at a friends house because I love chase crawford
Nah. I'm was a teen in the 90s but hated most of the horror in my mid-to-late teen years. While the 80's are my favorite, the 2000's are after that, then I'd probably say the 60s.
100% I grew up with The Thing, and Dawn of the Dead so I happen to find that era better but I can see some kid now loving this era, which I must say is pretty cool with great films like Hereditary and It Follows.
I’m a huge horror fan and I have to definitely agree with you on the early 2000s being the best. I do think that I do love it so much just because it was when I really discovered horror in high school. There’s nothing better in high school than sitting with friends in the dark with a cheesy horror film and a bowl of popcorn ❤️
Every era offers something different. I personally love the 80s! I feel like horror and sci fi was at its best! The most original and creative era in my opinion. Look at how many remakes came back in the 2000s. However....what i love about the 2000s is its brutality. Some of my favorites martyrs, i stand alone, irreversible and so on. Came frkm this era. If your a real horror you really love every era!
Omg I’m so happy you mentioned Jennifer’s body and I feel the same way! I’ve loved Jennifer’s body for so long and the movie itself and Megan Fox were heavily criticized when it came out but now they’re finally being appreciated. I don’t understand why it took so long but at least they’re getting the recognition and attention they deserve. The movie was definitely ahead of its time. I also think Hollywood has changed for the better in regard to treatment of women in the industry and not treating actresses as just a piece of meat. This was done to Megan Fox in the deliberate marketing for the movie to a young male audience (which isn’t even the bulk of her fan base and marketing was definitely a huge problem in the movie’s premiere and lead to its flop back then). Regardless of issues in the past, its a movie I can rewatch over and over again and I don’t feel that way for many movies.
I absolutely love your makeup especially your eyeshadow. I so wish more people would be more daring to wear more vibrant colours like that. Most people are so boring in that way, and they just have the incorrect opinion about the best colour makeup to wear lol
I love the pettiness of getting inspo from hate comments 🤣 also im full on with you about the love for 00's horror, these were the films that we're coming out when i got into horror and i love them. There's a certain tone that i love, like a lot of them are not too serious and just about the scares and having a fun time (for someone who loves horror ofc). I love recent horror and there's more of a move to arthouse or deeper horror (thinking of ari asters films) but sometimes you want a good fun horror fest and the 00's nailed that imho
The original REC and all the sequels have been my favorite movies for such a long time!! the 2000's was definitely a fun and experimental time for horror. And i LOVE it
I am surprised nobody’s mentioning The Orphanage (Spain, 2007) and Let the Right One In (Sweden, 2008)! Amazing films! The visuals are stunning and the plots are intriguing and frightening. The performances are remarkable... I love this new era of horror, I am so surprised and excited, but now that I am thinking, the 2000’s have brilliant horror movies and I admit it. My favorite horror movies from the 2000’s are: The Orphanage (Spain, 2007) The Ring (USA, 2002) Let the Right One In (Sweden, 2008) Thirst (South Korea, 2009) The Devil’s Backbone (Spain, 2001) The Village (USA, 2004) A Tale of Two Sisters (South Korea, 2003) Orphan (USA, 2009) High Tension (France, 2003) Jennifer’s Body (USA, 2009) Martyrs (France, 2008) Trick r’ Treat (USA, 2007) REC (Spain, 2007) REC 2 (Spain, 2009)
Here's her list :) The Ring Thirteen Ghosts Jennifer's Body The Village The Descent Ginger Snaps Trick'r'Treat Battle Royale Martyrs Signs The Others Silent Hill The Hills Have Eyes The Mist Wrong Turn Wolf Creek The Amityville Horror P2 1408 Quarantine Pontypool The Loved Ones Cabin Fever Halloween (2007) House of Wax Honorable mentions: The Haunting of Molly Hartley Stay Alive
I was honestly terrified to watch battle royale because of the youngest killer in Japan (known as Nevada Tan) had supposedly been influenced by it. But when I watched it I realised it was just people trying to ban all violent movies.
Ginger Snaps is for sure one of my favorites and it’s soooo underrated! Honestly the sequel isn’t bad either. Haven’t seen the prequel in a while though.
1. Wow that person has the MOST fragile ego. 2. I have actually been thinking about how your unpopular opinions video made me give the 2000s a second chance and you're right, there are a lot of gems that came out of that decade! Thanks for opening my mind!
The person you mentioned at the beginning of the video has waaaaaay too much time on their hands. They should take that energy and go volunteer somewhere.
Yeah, for whatever reason during the 80's, they had a fad where they had obviously 20+ year olds playing high school aged kids and it never worked. Tho most 80's horror films would have that one or two mandatory nude/topless scene and if they actually looked like minors then that would be a bit disturbing...
i watched signs when i was probably about 6 or 7 years old and still to this day, at 22, I'm frightened by that movie. something about it really just stuck with me and hauntes me. what a great movie.
Great review. Thanks. I believe every decade has a great selection of films. In my humble opinion horror movies are some manifestation of what is happening in the world so each decade has merit. - 80's fear of a nuclear war, 70's the crime rate was incredibly high (a lot of slasher movies started at this time) and so on. Really really enjoying your channel.
It's also my favorite era of Horror... Love all the movies you mentioned! I would add: Uzumaki Little Otik Trouble every day 28 days later May Teeth Inside The Orphanage Vinyan Let the right one in (swedish original) Repo! The genetic opera Eden Lake The Strangers Ruins Drag me to hell The House of the Devil Splice Antichrist Amer
My fave to this day of that era is Ghost Ship and I thought for SURE youd include RestStop as atleast an honorable mention! I dont know how well it holds up cuz i havent seen it since i was like 16 but i remember i was so into it when i first it!
One of my favorite underrated movies of the early 2000s is Cry Wolf. I haven’t seen it in a long time but I saw it for the first time when I was like 11 and it stuck with me. It also has one of my favorite horror movie tropes: people playing a game thats not quite what it seems. It is kinda cheesy but in the best way.
You ROCK! LOVE The Ring, The Village, Wolf Creek, 13 Ghosts, Trick 'r' Treat, The Others, The Mist, Pontypool, and Quarantine! You are the first person I've ever heard that said anything good about Quarantine. And I loved it! I've since become a fan of Rec and Rec 2 but wouldn't have bothered if not for Quarantine. I also loved Let Me In as opposed to the original. How about these: Black Death, Dead Birds, House of the Devil, The Orphanage, Darkness, The Ruins. Cheers!
13 Ghosts is one of my faves. The creativity of the concept alone puts it in my top 10. One day I’ll make time to watch the original to see if I like that one too.
I’ve been watching your channel for a while now and I almost never agree with you but I LOVE your videos and YOUR OPINION. It’s an opinion. My goodness this guy gave me a chuckle today.
The Village (2004) is my All Time Favorite Film. That may be an unpopular opinion, but I am so glad you included it on this list! It's definitely not a Full-Blown HORROR, but it manages Thriller\Romance so well. Shyamalan's best! (In my opinion LOL)
Wasn’t The Strangers from like 2009? Love that one! Also would love to see your top 25 Horror from the 2010s since this decade will be gone in a couple months!!
Hey, big fan here!! Loved this list!! Lots of favorites and some new ones I’m definitely gonna check out. Two of my favorites from the early 2000’s are “30 Days of Night” and “The Fourth Kind”. I’d love to hear your opinions about them if you’ve seen them!😊
Jennifer’s Body is one of my favorite movies of all times, directed by a women, staring 2 women as the main characters, AND she kills men 👏🏻 it was ahead of its time
I think that the 80's and 90's were the best decades for horror. But I also think that the 90's was the worst and that the 00's "made horror great again". Your list is solid with a lot of my personal favorites from that decade. Other greats include Dog Soldiers, Dead Snow, High Tension, Teeth, Slither, 28 Days Later, Rogue, The Devil's Backbone, The Ruins, Inside, Behind the Mask, Black Sheep, Shaun of the Dead, Bubba Ho-Tep, Planet Terror, American Psycho, Dawn of the Dead. The list goes on. Although I was born in the 80's I was finally free of my parents in the 00's, and living on my own for the first time gave me the chance to eat all these horror movies up and I freakin love that decade because of it. Hell, I even named my daughter Samara. Great list, keep it up!
I personally don’t have a favorite era of horror, but I agree with you in the sense that I feel as though the early 2000s does have some gems (I.e. The Ring) that are often hidden by lesser than good movies.
