Tying your antlers to your haul rope is a great idea, keeps the noise at a natural height, and if you let them fall down into the leaves it sounds like footsteps. It also keeps deer from looking up in trees, how many times has a deer walked out from cover and looked right up at you in the tree because you were rattling up there? Busted!

The first year I ever hunted Iowa, back in 1997, I was grunting at a decent 8 pt that was coming in from my right. I was so focused on the 8 pt that I never noticed the big 10 with 2 drop tines that came in perfectly to my left. When I finally saw him, he was looking right up at me from 18 yards and bolted. Lesson learned to always pay attention to all directions.

So it's November 13, 2023. Just this morning I saw a large buck in the timber 60 yards away. I thought about grunting to see if he would move in. Something inside me said just be still. Within 10 minutes a nice 11 point buck popped out within 20 yards of my stand, and I was able to get the shot. If I had grunted, I might have missed the opportunity. Thanks for all you do.

Good stuff, as someone has called quite a few deer to the bow two things I think are important one , not every deer will respond some pay you no mind at all but if you try you don’t know and two always have a doe bleat can in reach of your release hand that has made the difference on several bucks that I have gotten to respond but would not come into range that doe they were trying to find lead to their demise, keep up the good work

Guys love your videos and your support for Turkey Research. That is a great project! One thing I wanted to point out when it comes to calling deer is most guys call too much which is risky because if a buck is coming in 1. It doesn't sound real and he can pinpoint your location. On small properties when you're in a bedding area you do best not to call because you could have a buck bedded within 50 to 100 yards and your calling might actually spook him and if you sit quietly he might come just walking past. Sneak in Sneak out is the best way to kill good bucks on any property especially on small woodlots. Like I said great video guys I enjoy the Content keep it up. God Bless

I hunt in Middle East Alabama. I was hunting a 3hour window in a week long rain storm. I blind called with a couple doe and buck grunts and rattled with kicking leaves to make it sound like the bucks where fighting. The idea was to have it sound like the bucks ran off and the doe stayed. Hunting under oaks I had an idea and started chewing trail mix open mouthed and crunching as hard as I could. Sure enough a mature buck came in view at 25yards hot and heavy. Missed the shot using a old WW2 carbine but the making the situation sound as real as possible is a huge psychological leg up that can used. Love the channel guys big fan.

When I call I always aim the call away from the buck. It makes it more difficult for them to pinpoint where the sound is coming from. The exception is if they are too far to hear unless I aim it right at them. That doesn't mean they won't figure out exactly where you are but it lessons the chance they will

My buddy and I walked into a spot once, threw up a ground blind, waited no more than 5 minutes, and started rattling and grunting aggressively. We had bucks milling around us 10 minutes later. The amount we rattled seemed absurd, but it worked. You just have to experiment.
@tjr4483
@tjr4483 8 месяцев назад
I use trailing grunts 90% of the time. Short fast grunts , maybe 5-7 grunts about 1-2 seconds apart. Add realism by swinging your head while calling and end the sequence INTO THE WIND. Make him think your farther upwind so he doesn’t come in downwind. But only use that call when bucks are chasing does or during the prime rut. You could also make some noise just prior/during or right after calling. Maybe break a few decent sized twigs, kick some leaves around. I firmly believe I called in my nicest buck with that calling sequence and I broke a few twigs as well to help close the deal.

My number one mistake is not stealing my nephews call from him. We were bowhunting and he spotted a buck working a ridge towards me. He hit his grunt call and that buck turned on him and started making scrapes. He shot that buck and had a nice 8 pt to show for it. Later that year we were hunting northern Maine. We’d jumped a nice buck a couple times in the same area. Each time I’d jumped him he would cross the same spot on the creek. Later in the week we tried him again. I got my nephew and friend to work the woods where I’d jumped the buck and I swung out ahead to the creek crossing. They got to that section of thicket and spooked 3 deer. One of which was running right at me. My nephew hit his grunt call and that deer reversed direction and came back. Stepping out in front of my buddy. A 45-70 through his lungs and we were celebrating a 220lb dressed 7 pt with 20in spread. That with both Maine beams broken. All in all he called two bucks away from me with that damn grunt call. Lol😂

I’m in southeast MO and when archery season starts it is still prime time to get eaten alive by those little critters! I’m also curious about your scent strategy. You are always checking wind and making changes based on direction and thermals, are you not using any no scent spray at all? Thanks for the channel, keep those videos rolling!

Hey, it seems your top two mistakes are spatial examples. I've made both of these mistakes too and now won't call unless I know the deer is leaving and can't (easily) get downwind. I would also add that I wait until the deer does not have a clear line of sight. I've had multiple bucks look back. Every buck I can remember will move only close enough until they can see what the noise was. A decoy helps, but in my successful experiences they have to come up a hill to look over, or walk around or through thick cover to see where/what the noise is coming from. I will never call again if they are in the open and have a clear line of sight.
@tjr4483
@tjr4483 8 месяцев назад
Good point , I never have much luck calling on a fence line I hunt bc they can see nothings there. But in a cedar swamp they have to get close to find the noise and I believe it’s harder to pinpoint the noise in a woods setting.

i've got a favourite area where i chase my whitetail. public land, but this area gets completely overlooked by everyone, and nobody has ever been in there. i have cams all through-out it, and am there ALOT of days. it seems to pull in all the bucks, late-season, for the rut. must be plentiful with does. but these deer are weird. have never had them even sniff at various attractants i have put out over the years. numerous types of salt, different scents, even a bag of oats in the late-season when there's lots of snow. and, they completely ignore all rattles and calls. it's tough to hunt too, due to the terrain. they never seem to use specific routes, to travel throughout the area. it's a huge mound basically, the landscape/terrain. so they can really enter/exit from the lower fields/meadows anywhere, and that's what they seem to do. i only have one cam that will pick up a good % of the bucks in the area, and it's my highest one and deeper in the trees. i'm hitting it a little different, with cam placements, this year, to try to key in on a secret route they might have, that i haven't noticed yet.

The does were all grazing on the edge of the field when I attempted to gain there attention. A couple of them seems to look a little bit, but for the most part, they didn’t seem to have a care in the world. Why is that? Do you think you know this is happening or what I could do next time?

90% of the bucks I've killed were blind called. That has worked very well for me over the years especially hunting big woods bucks in thicket areas. Sometimes they come in slow other times they come barreling in usually right to my setup and in those cases you know he's coming bcuz you here him charging in. If the woods are quiet with noisy leaves then I'll still hunt into my area grunting as I move & that is hard to pull off sometimes

I still use one that I bought in the early 2000s. Primos bleat/grunt wooden call. Bleat works fine on it but I use a can call for more controlled consistent sounds when bleating. The grunt tone is just right, not to high or to low. Lastly though the call has a tiny floating compass on it that doesn’t work. I learned the hard way and got lost for a couple hours in the dark while relying on it.

Please delete your written checks from your video! Check numbers, business address, amount, that's all scammers need. You're setting yourselves up for disappointment 😞. I really enjoy your videos and this one in particular. Hoping to go on a great hunt for big game one day!

The account number is not visible. It’s hidden under paper. Nothing else on there is hack-worthy. Their address is public info, maybe her signature shouldn’t show but seriously, watch it again.

I thought the exact same thing . A scammer will stop and zoom in and steal account numbers

I hunted in one county and often had deer to respond to calling. I moved to another county and after several years I have never had success in calling in a deer. I wonder what is different and why I haven't been able to call a deer in at this new club.

I’ve found three turkey nests raided by predators this year in NC. Two of the nests it was obvious from the scattered feathers that the hen had been killed as well as the eggs or poults. It makes me sick.

Is it true that if you sit high enough up in a tree in a marshy area that they won’t catch your scent regardless.

Best luck I had while calling is after a deer just walks through that’s a doe or not a shooter. I’ll wait 5-10mins after they walk through then call. But be sure u can shoot the trail that deer was just on.

I think my number one mistake is not calling at all because I'm afraid that I'll scare off any deer that I can't see.
