Abe Uta uses kata sankaku roll to the osaekomi kuzure kesa gatame. But name of technique is not important. Important is very good execution by Abe Uta. But wondeful newaza working showed Funakubo. Her transition from uncomfortable position to attack and osaekomi yoko shiho gatame was really great.
Wasn’t Abe’s pin the Funakubo special? Also is Abe Uta the most complete judoka right now with both tachiwaza and newaza? Who else is very strong in both, men or women? Abe Hifumi doesn’t do any newaza. The Japanese women’s team all seem good on the ground but some of the newaza specialists like Funakubo and esp recently Hamada are lacking in tachiwaza. Nizoe has that good lapel choke but not as strong in either as Abe. Arai was good at both but not as good as Abe.
Natsumi Tsunoda is probably the only other judoka who dominates in tachiwaza and newaza. It's similar to the funakubo-gatame, except that UTA's left hand grabs the far lapel above the belt, not under it.
