Top 3 Top Load Washers in 2020 

I'll keep my 1984 Maytag top loader until one of us dies. No bells, no whistles. Simple mechanical machine that has run since Dec 1984 without an issue.

I bought a speed queen TR7 2021 model and it has been amazing.

I so wish I would've known about Speed Queen back when I got my new Washer back in November. If I could do it all over again, I would pick that Speed Queen model in a heart beat!

We purchased this Maytag MVW7230Hw washer from Pochel’s in Tacoma, Washington. It was delivered and set up by the delivery person. We tried to do a load of laundry and the washer wouldn’t agitate. I took a video to show that the agitator pretty much just vibrated, and didn’t even disturb the small amount of suds that formed when the machine partially filled with water. I took the video to Pochels the next morning. They said they would gladly deliver another machine for only $100. I told them I wasn’t willing to pay an additional $100 to get a machine that worked when I had already paid over $1,000 for one that obviously didn’t work. Pochels told me to contact Maytag for a repair. I explained that since I had the machine less than 24 hours, I didn’t think it appropriate to call for a repair, but they explained that was my only option. I called Maytag, and the first appointment is several weeks out Later we tried another load of laundry and the washer literally tried to dry clean the clothes. You can see in the video that there is NO water in the machine, enough water came out to dampen the clothes and that was it. At least this time the agitator worked! But I have to manually add water to each load even though I put it on maximum fill. It takes about 4 hours to do a load of laundry. This machine is supposed to save water, but even when the agitator does work and you manually add water to the machine, you have to push heavy jeans under the water and swish them around with your hand to get them clean. I might as well go to the river and pound my clothes on the rocks. The agitator doesn’t always work, the fill doesn’t always work, the agitator tries to dry clean the clothes with no water in the tub and it takes and the clothes on top don’t get clean.

I noticed the July 2020 Consumers Reports dinged the LG WT7300CW (separate from the other LG WT7x00 models) for "water usage". The other similar LG models took the top 3 spots. This model is in the middle of that line, but got the lowest possible rating for water usage. {This is the model being recommended in the video, but of course he wouldn't have any way to know this model would be any different on water usage when it was made.} I only saw the CR summary rankings (on LG's site, actually), so I don't know what they identified as being different from the other machines' water usage.

Toyota needs to make washing machines....

Direct drive, my 2000 era Whirlpool/Kenmore and way older than mine are direct drive. LOL

I had a LG fridge and I hated it b/c of repair problems - going with speed queen

I would go for the Speed Queen TC5 Classic Series Washing Machine. Transmission driven old school wash action plus no lid lock!!!

Maytag commercial has a larger 3.5cf tub. Maytag commercial also has a better agitator by far. There is a video on here comparing the two commercial washers. See for your self.

Top load over front always

I purchased the LG WT7300 over a year ago and and I have been very happy with the performance of it (I also purchased the matching dryer). It does a great job of getting my clothes clean, uses minimal water and is quiet. It replaced a 10 year old Maytag top loader that just shredded up my clothes.....shirts, underwear, towels, etc. It spins the water out far better than the Maytag could ever try, making time in the dryer very efficient. Best decision I ever made.

Just wondering, how is Speed Queen able to use more water when the government has regulated the industry? Also, I think they deep water wash cycle is only for certain cycles, correct?

Hello and thank you for this review, it was very helpful and easy to understand, I went yesterday and bought your number one pick the LG WT7300CW.

Why are so many used machines LG if they're so great? I think they have too many mechanical issues Issues. May tag is much better and last longer.

He tried his best screwed up on the LG washer saying that the turbo wash heated up the water and spun faster, not true. Also the speed Queen washer with a smaller tub could wash the same amount of laundry better than the whirlpool with the larger tub. The whirlpool washer with the fake wash plate/agitator cannot handle a large load look at the reviews.

Evidently you don't stock the Maytag commercial washer.

The 2nd one sounded good, then I saw the reviews for it...why is it so hard to find a good washing machine?

I don't care if it uses a "lot" of water. As long as the clothes get clean. I've been ranting about the "high efficiency" machine that I bought a couple years ago and will soon be going to the dump. I can't even wear deodorant unless I scrub it out of my shirts before putting them in the wash machine. It doesn't get anything out of my clothes. Absolutely nothing. Oh, and it has an "agitator." I think the agitator in it is decoration.

Where is the Maytag 575 commercial no comment on this one...

45 gallons of water for 1 wash is crazy.

Don't really know what criteria he uses to rate these machines. It should be on quality of cleanliness. The two HE machines use very little water, so clothes don't all get wet. I have used his top-rated machine and found it inefficient with a load of bed linens, half of which were still dry at the end of the cycle. The Speed Queen is excellent and should have been his first choice, with the Maytag Commercial coming in second. No HE machines come up to the standard of those two.

Judging by how the agitator looks, that's the bad Speed Queen washer that everyone raised hell about...I wouldn't go near it.

Old Maytags are real good and reliable, the new ones not so much.

Excellent Review.. I really like the SPEED QUEEN Washing Machine... Old school washing with plenty of water built into a new 2020 washer... A good friend of mine bought this washer and she loves it.. So much better than the H E Crap today.. Maytag builds a commercial grade washer with and agitator, uses plenty of water with old school technology too... Thank you for a great video...

All the newer washers are junk I’d prefer one that isn’t smart because those are the ones that get the stains and dirt out

Hey I don’t agree on LG I see a lot of them with problems. To many stupid bells and whistles.

The tr5 sq washer is horrible. It just spins and spins and spins! Sometimes brand loyalty won't mean all their machines will be good.

I have the maytag you just shown, just off warranty just replaced with speed queen. Maytag worth nothing. Bought 3 maytag appliances in last few years and are all retired already. Junk, junk, junk!

He recommended the pos I’m replacing... Maytag aka whirlpool.. 4 yrs 1 person and it’s garbage . I wouldn’t take this guys advice he’s just a typical salesman 😤
