March is an awesome month in bass fishing! Bass are moving shallow and you can catch them! This is a great time to catch the biggest bass of your life or just to get out and have fun. Today Tim is breaking down his key confidence baits for bass fishing in March.
Okay, so we didn't exactly stick to 5 baits with this one... but there are a ton of great options right now. If you're searching for a giant bite, pay close attention to the big baits. If you're looking to cover water and catch numbers, focus your attention on the reaction baits. And finally, if you just want to enjoy a leisurely day on the water, focus on the slow moving presentation.
Below you'll find links to all the baits discussed in the video. We've included our favorite sizes and colors for each. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Good video! Love y’all but why post a video for top lures of a month when every area of the country is at a different stage as far as bass behavior and water temp? Why not make it for best baits when the water temp is 40s 50s etc.
@tacticalbassin

Good question! Its because most people search for monthly baits and not water temp. Maybe we can add the water temps to the next vid.

I think you're missing the boat on one particular bait if the water is between let's say mid fifties to 60゚ that would be the weightless lizard .... My favorite colors would be black if the water is darkOr green pumpkin red flake if the water is clearer. I've caught a ton of fish in that window of water temperature with a weightless lizard or with a very small bullet weight 1/16th of an ounce or less.

As a bank fisherman who’s lost thousands of lures your best bet it to fish cheaper and or more weed less lures. I throw a big soft swimbait but only in the areas I know are not snaggy and give plenty of casting room.

I like hereing you and your friend inform people about fishing; but here in Minneapolis Minnesota there are very large Northern Pike and Muskie. I have some of those large lures but I really have not dedicated myself to fish them for largemouth bass. So these large lures are excellent for pike and muskie and in the process I may catch a large bass. Thank you very much, you guys are very informative.

From the Bay Area, in California my top 5 prespawn baits here in non-trout reservoirs off the bank are, Shakey head w/ a trick worm, Jackhammer chatter bait, red eye shad lipless, lucky craft 1.5 square bill, and the texas rigged baby d bomb! The reservoirs here get a ton of pressure but these baits cracked the code for me.

Fished today with a friend at the California aqueduct and we agreed that both of us had never seen so many large bass in such a small area! We fished the same 100 yards of water all day from the check gates the inlet and put let drains. The spawn is differently on! We tried swim baits, Glide baits, jigs, senkos, chatter baits, square bills, lipless, brush hogs, top water and others but NO Hogs would bit! It’s so frustrating to see behemoths following my Butch brown slide swimmer but not eat it! Pleanty of 1 to 3 pounders and the occasional 4 - 5 pounder; because of sight fishing BUT NO GIANTS! You could see them clear as day today. Eye candy only! High single digits to low double digit large mouth, smallies and spottys BUT NO TAKERS 👀

DPOMELLA-Central Florida I fished a tournament in the Harris chain on 2-26 and the fish were pre spawn and actively spawning as well as post spawn. This goes on in Florida from Dec to May depending on how many cold fronts we get. During this tournament I hooked several 5 to 8 lb Bass on the bed with YUM Dinger Black blue, 3/16 tungsten and lost them due to mistakes on my part against the side of the boat. They were fun to hook none the less. Several other 2-3 lb fish on lipless and square bill and spro little johns. I will be purchasing some s-wavers for the next tournament on the Kissimee chain.

Hey Guys! I live in Norman,Oklahoma and my top 5 confidence baits(in no particular order) are Jerk Bait, Chatter Bait, Shaky Head, Tube Jig, Soft Swim Bait(Keitech). I can honestly say that until I found Tactical Bassin, I didn’t have a single “confidence bait”. After watching several TB tutorial’s. I have found that I have far more confidence to go out and do something that I love to do! In turn, it brings my family together, I can teach them all that I know about the this amazing sport and have loads of fun while we do it. Thank you both for everything you guys do. Keep up the good work guys!!

Her in the ozarks region with me it’s jerkbaits, rock crawlers or warts, swimbaits, bladed and spinnerbaits, Carolina rig or always have a wacky rig. I realize most at ozarks will have a jig, it’s just not my confidence bait. Love your show. It has helped make me a more versatile fisherman , especially with the big swimbaits.

I had a discussion this morning in my local bait store. Some guys complaining about the fishing and tried their best to discourage me from buying large swim baits. "You'll be best to use much smaller lures. We always catch the smaller ones so we always use smaller lures". That's literally what they kept saying. They looked dumbfounded when I said, umm you are probably catching dinks because you only use small lures? They just starred like I smacked their mama.

Matt and Tim, I am from NJ and am finally taking my first trip to bass fishing down south to rent a boat on a highland reservoir called Fontana lake, NC in hopes of catching my first spotted bass. I am going with my dad for my school spring break during the second week of March. It is clearly a highland reservoir and isn't too far away from Lake Chickamauga. I recall a recent video on where bass go in the spring and I was wondering if you answer a quick question. I remember you saying how in the spring, highland reservoir bass tend to follow the secondary points to the back of long creeks/fingers as the spring carries on. So my question is that, do bass ever utilize the smaller creeks off of the main lake that are maybe 0.5 miles long instead of the big giant creeks should they have adequate shallow water and deep water access. I am a confident bass angler, but I am definitely out of my element with a lake like this, especially regarding a species I have never caught before. The lake actually has all three species of bass and a grand slam sounds like it could be really cool. Could you possibly let me know what you think? I know you are very busy. Regards and tightlines, Jeff Serratelli (On Foot Bassin')

Fished yesterday in central Louisiana. Temp dropped 40 degrees the night before, cloudy and windy as hell. Caught em on a new favorite bait- cotton candy swirl yum dinger

We’ll be heading into March in the Ozarks with water temps around 40 degrees unfortunately. But pre spawn favorites include Rapala or wart type cranks, jerkbait, Keitechs, and shaky head.

Jackhammer(usually green pumpkin), Senko, jig, shallow crank(delta craw color), and the one that gets slept on a lot is a swim jig, the dirty jig finesse swim jig in dirty 420 color has had me some of my best days out on the CA delta

I have a home lake in NorthEast TN that has lake trout/rainbows aswell as shad/bluegill. Would you think some bass in there could be lowkey trout eaters.? Im unsure with all the shad available. I guess my question is will bass choose trout over shad/bluegill bc of meal size.?

Rapala original floating minnow or countdown in rainbow trout or brown trout pattern, Rapala Rattlin Rap in fire craw, bomber crankbait in white and chartreuse, hellgrammite Ned rigged. I fish rivers in Oregon though. Oh and a 1/4 oz rooster tail on an ultralight rod works pretty good too and is hella fun.

Great video Tim! Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge with us. I’m near your old stomping grounds, in Chico area. By far my most productive prespawn bait has been the Chatterbait, swimming it past & bumping it into wood(stumps, stick-ups, lay downs) that are on ditches that penetrate spawning flats. I’m wondering “how” you fish the big wedgetail swimbaits this time of year? Do you still do the winter crawl on bottom or do you swim them past cover? Thanks again for a excellent channel.

Thank you! As the water temps warm you can start fishing it faster. The first day you're out on the water in a T-Shirt get up shallow and chuck and wind. Tight lines!

On Kentucky Lake my top 5 in order would be a flat sided squarebill, a swim jig, a spinnerbait, a lipless and underspin

Man my favorite spring bait is the Ozark trail Hammer Hog down here in Oklahoma, next probably the watermelon seed dinger, and the fineness spinnerbait.

Any expensive Megabass lure should work regardless of color. Matt and Tim love Megabass lures in all colors.
