Love that "ClipCHUMP" !!! Knew it had to be a turkey the way MS was pushing it. I can't believe they paid for it, but then it's more about extortion than servicing the customer. When I did a re-install of 11 because the legacy video editor was performing poorly, they took it away and replace it with Clipchump. I haven't been that angry in decades. At some point I was prompted to either update or reinstall Clipchump and when I did there was an option to install Photos Legacy. To get it run well, after each RU-vid video creation and upload (so I have it as a backup). I go to apps settings for Photos Legacy and do a reset and a repair before starting on a new RU-vid video

As an amateur hobbyist I found Davici Resolve to be the best software available in BOTH categories, free and paid. Starting off I found the free version the most intuitive and easy to use. Its Color page tools can be as basic or as sophisticated as you like it to be. One can start basic, but there's infinite room to grow. Bought the paid version primarily for noise reduction, but there are a other benefits that make it completely worth the one time price (that's a big plus - its not a subscription model).

And it is the type of program where you can start and keep learning the more comfortable or ambitious you get. plus BMD has very nice tutorials and RU-vid has a lot as well. I used to use Premiere Pro, but swapped to Davinci in my final few years of school to learn something I'd be able to afford once my student license ran out. I honestly couldn't go back, Davinci is so much better. Yes, the learning curve is significant. Even now I have to look up how to do some things, but it runs so smoothly, the interface is great, and there are way more features than in Premiere. On the off chance I used Premiere for something, I'd be sitting there waiting ages for it to load my footage as the recent releases are so buggy. Davinci also has an in-built audio editor and After Effects equivalent. I never liked After Effects and hated using it, so I rarely ever touched it, but I use Davinci's equivalent all the time. It's just so easy to use and well integrated.

My editing experience is very limited but the ones on this list from Shotcut down (generally speaking the more powerful the better the editor but also the more complicated and harder the learning curve) are the more simple and would be easier to learn. There is no simple editors for the very non savvy, and you are going to have to learn and the less of a grip you have on the basics the more you will have to learn. As almost everything in computers you can learn to do just what you need, but you need to learn the basics that those things use to understand what you are doing. So this depends on what you know and understand about the basics, and with video editing, intermediate workings of computers and video files.

Imovie has the best basics and rough format of professional video editing software. When I need to do easy editing I would choose that. I started by learning final cut pro X in school and Imovie was the closest in format and easy to pick up. If I am using windows I would use wondershare filmora (also about the same format but easier to control) that one is free but over time that also had watermark that cannot be moved unless you buy premium. Davinci is one of the hardest software I have to master and currently using. Davinchi have additional tabs toggles and stuff that makes it slightly more steep in the learning curve I am still having some issues with it even if it's one of the most comprehensive video editing app and its free version is also good. Easiest: Imovie & wondershare filmora Pro but free: Davinci Resolve Pro & paid: Final cut Pro X & adobe premier pro.

Hi. Thank you so much for your videos. I am such a novice it isn't even funny. My laptop automatically updated from Windows 10 to 11 even though I had avoided it for a long time. I used to use the Windows video editor which is basic and not that great but at least I could make videos longer than 20 minutes if I wanted. Now the Windows photo folder doesn't have the video editor and I had to download the Clipchamp video editor. I wanted something simple I could get my head around but I tell you what...it's a downgrade! It won't allow videos longer than 10 minutes to export, even in paid upgrades and even when I reduced my video to under 10 minutes,it wouldn't allow export because the file was 'too big' and needed to be sipped but no tab to do so. Crazy because even in the W10 video editor, I could export 4K videos. So I'm done! I was thinking about the Davinci 18 one but WILL IT WORK ON MY Asus LAPTOP, IF YOU KNOW AT ALL? The problem with DaVinci is that, it is extremely picky when it comes to the GPU. I couldn't get it to run on Linux (no surprise on my old Laptop) but neither on my fairly modern and well powered desktop. I do not play games, so I don't need a dedicated GPU. 8K videos with 100fps just play perfectly fine with the onboard chip. I might try to reinstall Windows (got totally rid of it 2 years ago) and see if it works there. Otherwise, I'm going to stick with my good old Kdenlive.

The free version of resolve doesn't even use the GPU (although the very latest releases have changed that a bit). I was creating youtube videos just fine on a six year old machine until recently so it isn't so bad unless you want to scrub 4k videos on your timeline but even then you can edit in lower resolutions and output at 4k (I think you need to pay to get higher than that)

@@notverygoodguy how do you get your hands on an older version of resolve? Resolve 18 won't let me use it on my computer due to no GPU and only hhd 620 graphics.

Curious as to who and why offers these multiple free relatively complex programs
@akyhne
@akyhne Год назад
Well I can tell you the story about DaVinci Resolve. Their first "editor" was not an editor, but a color grading unit. It was a rack system, that cost 1 million dollars. That was +25 years ago, and was the only real option for digital video coloring, at the time. Eventually they made it to a software, costing around 10 grand. But the company went bankrupt over a decade ago. Blackmagic took over, and made it to an NLE (Non-linear editing) editor, with sound, video, color grading, and VFX editor, all in one. Now in a free version, that has 95% of the pro version. So why free? They want you in their ecosystem. They sell pro cameras for movies, television, and all kinds of hardware, related to building an entire television studio, or making a movie from scratch to post production on Blackmagic hardware and software only. With most of their gear, you get at least one free version of their pro NLE, DaVinci Resolve. The benefits for us "normal" people, is, that we get this amazing software for free. But it's probably not the best software, if you're completely new to editing. It is incredible complex, although if you watch some of their training videos on RU-vid, you will easily learn how to make simple videos.

@@akyhne Now that’s what I call a rarity on social media and answer that’s not just self promoting that actually has credible and useful detailed information so thank you so much. It makes sense of why they offer so much for free that they just want to build their ecosystem because that supports their pro paid stuff I’m guessing Even just bye making it a more Familiar and ubiquitous product In my case I got some free Cyberlink software as part of some hardware I purchased years ago but that always promised much for free but delivered little unless you paid a lot more and even then is very clunky although I keep using it because I have learnt how to work around its limitations and get what I need done. Having said that there is one thing I have yet to find as a feature and it is something I find unbelievable doesn’t seem to exist in an easily used edit. I have some long clips that I want to split into numerous smaller clips and I would really appreciate software where I could just mark the points on the timeline of all the splits I want to do and just process that in a single click instead of generally being forced to do one or two smaller clips at a time. Numerous products Clickbait this but Dont deliver or are fairly convoluted so if you have a possible simple solution I would really appreciate it that again thank you so much

I tried DaVinci, but with 32 gig RAM, it was very sluggish. I use VSDC often but the learning curve is a big hump to get past. It's excessively complicated with many buttons that are already duplicated elsewhere in the menus. There's no real guidebook anywhere, and the online tutorials are okay as far as they go. It's a lot of trial and error, but it works great once you get the hang of it, and you don't need a lot of RAM. I like the options to split off soundtracks and insert another, or overlay them.
