Here in western NY the deer love my fall planted buckwheat! It doesn't last too long as they mow it down but it is like candy to them and it seems easy to grow.

Just had Josh from WDS at my place. The southern blend is starting to grow brassica again already. The rye is coming up well. He was impressed. Thanks, John, for the great seed quality.

I usually add red clover and chicory to it. The idea of adding buckwheat seems interesting

Clumping grasses are easily spotted and accessable before green-up for those of you with perennial and/or cover crops. Do yourself, and your plot, a favor and dig them up now.

Too much browse pressure in our area, brassicas only got 6 inches tall before getting wiped out. Definitely going to use a nurse crop next go around.

Brassicas have to be the easiest crop to grow definitely recommend anyone try them. I’ve been planting a different brand than johns with great success but will be planting his sweet feast mix this year in a side by side comparison. Then pick the better for following years. I rotate between soybeans and brassicas every other year and the soil seems fine and not lacking nutrients

When it comes to spreading chicory, I actually prefer to have those seeds coated as they are so so small, I find it extremely hard to not oversee them

You forgot to mention that different types of brassicas take different seeding rates. For example, daikon radish is different than purple top turnip.

Have you broadcasted winter rye into established brassica plots? Would you add annual clover to brassicas like Frosty Berseem or Balasana?

My biggest mistake is planting in Kansas thinking that it would ever rain again. Maybe I'm just bitter...

What is your advice regarding setting your food plot up in spring time for fall planting.

Would adding red clover to the brassica mix help with the concern about running out of seed when spreading? Like adding 5 lbs per acres of red clover to 6 lbs of brassica mix (11 lbs total to spread mixed together)? Wouldn't the brassica's out-compete the clover so the clover only fills in where broadcasting may have missed a spot?

Should I plant the brassica seed into the beans and then roll (and spray?)the beans to get the brassica to grow?

John, when you plant brassicas do you use a tiller on your plot or do you use a no-till method?

I really enjoy Johns videos and am looking forward to planting. But I need a supplier closer to western Wisconsin. I ordered a bag of $49 buckwheat and with shipping it came out to $76. Shipping is so expensive. Any chances of getting a distributor in the Eau Claire or Twin Cities?

I'm curious since you said that sugar beets should not be planted in august because farmers plant them in may why would you plant beans in august when farmers plant them in may also. I assume the deer like the young tender bean tops but don't they also like the young tender tops of sugar beets?
