Thanks Peter! I know it was a very "western Canadian" heavy list but I think all mentioned were worth the notoriety. Happy New Year. Cheers eh 🥃

Have sadly had none of these, but they all sound interesting and engaging. Thanks Matt

Here's hoping they start showing up near you soon! At least Shelter Point, Macaloney's and Two Brewers have started prioritizing International Markets. One can dream :) Cheers and Happy New Year 🥃

I haven't had a lot of new Canadian Whisky expirences this year, but I really enjoyed Wiser's 18. Crown Royal XO was surprisingly good. My old standards of Tawse Pinot finished and Alberta Premium Cask Strength batch 2 and Barefoot 7 year old I also continued to enjoy.

The batch 2 of Alberta Premium Cask Strength was my first of the series and my favourite of the batches I had. Glad you have a bottle of that and the Wiser's 18 year. Some great Canadian whiskies. Cheers eh! Happy New Year 🥃

Great list! For me it’s Two Brewers #39. Lots of tropical fruit. Very surprised with them. Cheers!

Ditto on Two Brewers. I shouldn't be surprised but am feeling very impressed by what they are putting out. Cheers Sheldon 🥃

Great list Matt! I've got a bottle of that CS Inverhaven. If it was possible to OD on sherry, this would be the bottle. Its an ICBM of a sherry bomb! As you say, takes a lot of water to unpack it in the glass, but it's an absolute banger of a dram. Imagine what this would taste like after 12 or 18 yrs of maturation 🤯 I've not cracked my Shelter Point 10 yet, but have opened the 12. Im having to be very strong willed to ration myself with it, as it absolutely delicious! That would be my Canadian Whisky of the year!

An ICBM of Sherry!!! What a great description of this bottle! Haha 😄 I only had a small taste of the Shelter Point 12 when I purchased my bottle. Was hoping to drink down the 10 year before opening but my will is weakening by the day. Still really cool we both went to Shelter Point for out top choice of the year! Also, are you going to need at the Victoria Whisky Festival? I've confirmed that I'll be going this year. Would be great to meet up there. Cheer James, and happy new year! 🥃

@@whiskyonthewestcoast Afraid I don't think I'm going to make this year, due to a family event. Such a shame, as I'd have loved to meet up! 😭 Hope you have a awesome time mate...I loved it last year! 🥃

Was in Campbell River last week and did the tour. The SM 10 was sold out when I was there unfortunately but walked away with the standard Classic Single Malt Cask Strength. It was decent stuff considering the age(7 years). Would be really interested to see the 10+ whiskeys.

Sorry to hear the 10 year was sold out when you visited. However, as you point out, the Artisanal Single Malt is no slouch with that 7 year age statement. Great things from Shelter point though. Thanks for checking out the video. Cheers and Happy New Year 🥃

You know, I don't think any Two Brewers has bowled me over this year. The last release of theirs that I've really loved was #33 which is just full of lovely peaty, cask-strength influence. I'm not a coffee person, so #40 is not my thing XD I'll probably enjoy #41 more, the Pedro Ximénez finish when I get around to cracking it.

I'd like to try more Two Brewers at Cask Strength. I think that would be a real treat. I didn't regularly drink coffee until about 5 years ago. Now I rely far too much on it's magical stimulant powers. I had very low expectations for a coffee bean rested cask and it slapped me across the face with those expectations and then showed me the door. It was stark and unexpected. If I see #33 lying around out here I'll take a swing at it. Cheers man 🥃

Interesting list. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t tried many Canadian whiskies at all. Bearface was the only one I tried last year, which I did enjoy, but being 100%, probably not a representation of typical Canadian whiskies. I am keen to make 2024 the year to broaden my experience, though I’m not sure if these will be in Australia.

I don't think it's something to be much ashamed of, as so often the higher quality Canadian Whisky doesn't get outside it's own province, let alone outside of Canada. You may see Shelter Point, Two Brewers or Macaloney's at some point as they are starting to be sold in more global markets. Hopefully some decent quality Canadian whiskies make their way over to Queensland. Cheers buddy 🥃

@@whiskyonthewestcoast Thanks mate. It’s the same with the quality Australian whiskies, though some of them should also start hitting global markets. They’re not here yet, but I’ll keep an eye out for Two Brewers and Macaloneys

Have you tried any of the Sons Of Vancouver Whiskey?
@whiskyonthewestcoast
@whiskyonthewestcoast 6 месяцев назад
I have! I've tried both the 1st and second versions of Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze but I haven't been able to get my hands on a full bottle. Would love to do a review of their stuff some day. Very promising from the small amount I have tried though! Happy new year! Cheers 🥃

Whats your favorite bottle under $50? (any whiskey) I’m just getting into whiskey but I’m a broke university student here in BC lol
@whiskyonthewestcoast
@whiskyonthewestcoast 4 месяца назад
Hey, sorry for the delay. I have been there, the broke University student phase, so I know money can be tight. In B.C. under $50 is tough, but I have some idea's. I've only used the B.C. Liquor Store for this to hopefully make it easier for you to find. Got some suggestions for a few different styles. First is a Sherry cask finished Blended Malt Scotch that I think is a killer value. That is the Naked Malt which is $45.99 at the government store(If you're in Abbotsford their is a store selling for $35). It is likely a blend of Macallan, Highland Park, and Glenrothes single malts. Buffalo Trace Bourbon is my go to cheaper Bourbon and runs $44.99 at the gov store. For a cheap Irish Jameson Caskmates Stout Cask finish is good for $38.49. If you want to try a decent 100% Rye from Canada the Lot 40 100% Rye can be had for $39.49. Finally Reifel Rye(another Canadian whisky) is on sale for $38.99. It's interesting as it is 91% pot still Canadian rye. The rest, in keeping with the weird Canadian 1/11 rule, is 6% Old Grand Dad Bourbon and 3 % Sherry(fortified wine). Hope that this list helps you find a decent bottle under $50 in B.C. Cheers 🥃

Oops... forgot the Macaloney, Peated 46% which was for my local city Whisky Club... I'd probably put it as Number 5, out of the 7 Canadian's I opened in 2023

I know you said it's a limited list but I love it because I haven't had these yet! Sounds like Red Deer's finest at Grainhenge is doing some good work. I've only ever had their beer but that'll have to change. I'm planning on picking up that KWM Bridgeland as I've heard a few speak highly of it. Very cool list man. Cheers eh 🥃

Nice addition. I have found that their locally peated whiskies are pretty compelling when compared to other Canadian whiskies made with peat. Doesn't hit like it's 54 PPM but it is still a solid peat smack.
