as a short and light rider I enjoy my United Shapes Horizon 151 for carving, blew me away how stable it is and since it's softer than most "carving boards" I can actually take advantage and flex it out in my turns.
I love that your pushing the "camber dominate" board's. They need work to ride but way better than the rockered out with little to nothing in camber to pop in/out of turn's. Shred safe!🤙
@rolling edges, only beginner to intermediate use reversed camber. Usually, from a point, any rider wants more control when riding. You cannot have that with reverse camber. The good thing is, even for us, the less skilled ones, there are versions of camber boards that we can ride without being killed on every run. #thankGOD(designers, I mean)forcamrockandScamber.
@@filipvitek204 Super fluid carving for a twin board in my opinion .thanks to that 3BT and the camber profile combo it just makes it easy to go from toe to heel with ease. I feel confident on it at higher speeds too. It’s surprisingly more capable than I would have expected. Actually can’t say enough good things about the board to be honest.
I got a Jones Hovercraft a couple years ago and I never want to ride my regular board anymore (even on non powder days). The Hovercraft just feels so powerful and fast. The only thing I don’t like it for is jibs. Well and riding switch of course.
he likes to cover boards that are great for a lot of stuff. The only korua suited to anything other than posi posi carving is the cafe racer (my opinion obviously but they basically say the same thing on their website). Which just isnt what most people want when they think carving board unless its the 3rd or 4th in their quiver (which again not a lot of people have that big of a quiver). But facts... korua makes some great shapes.
As a senior citizen I think differently. My carveboards are 5.7 and 7.8 Factory Primes with Physics bindings and Fire boots. My powderboard is 6.9 Alp with SI-X bindings and drifter boots. different strokes for different folks....
I guess you rate the K2 Simple Pleasures above Party Platter here because it felt stiffer at similar size thus a better hard carver. I tested both, but i went for PP 2020 for carve and pow :)
Exactly I think the Simple Pleasures offers a bit more stability and a more aggressive feel that is valuable when you're riding faster. Party Platter is also a really fun board though with some snappy energetic turns no doubt!
It's not about height. It's about weight and volume/surface area of the board. Rider weight and surface area play heavily into the float characteristics of how a snowboard performs in powder, however this video is about carving, where sidecut radius, length and stiffness are more important aspects to consider on groomers. Three dimentional bases will also be a factor in how they initiate and come out of turns. Also look into contact length and effective edge when considering how a board will perform on piste. These aren't your late 90's early 2000's boards, it doesn't have to come up to your chin to be the right size anymore. Lots of factors to consider including riding style, stance and setback. After that we're going to have a conversation about hardbooters.
Really pow and carve are different activities. In my opion if you want a carve board you have to buy a narrow, long and a real camber board.I own a jones hovercraft and its a pow machine that can carve but you feel rocker nouse.
I ride for few years on NVR SMR proto hd 152 I really love this board But i need some board with stability in high speeds, Great carving and good float in powder.. I find these boards Arbor A-frame Bataleon party wave + Wich one is better for me? And what size should i get? Im 175cm tall And 67kg
Other than the swallow-tail, and, of course, modern Lightness & Flexy-ness, this (the Bataleon) seems to be a LOT like my '94 Gordo FF 151?! I still have two of those, and they Carve & float like champs, AND have extra-thick bases/Edges for Grind abuse and Glade romps. "PSR"
One thing I always wondered is whetger it's actually important of where you ride the board. Like, is there a difference when you ride those boards in Colorado vs riding it in Europe/Austria? If so, do you have experience in riding both locations and can highlight some of the aspects important for snowboard selection? I've never been snowboarding somewhere else, so I don't really have a comparison of the conditions.
Really interested in the Party Wave +. At 5'8 160lbs size 8 boot should I be looking at the 48 or 51? This would be my first short fat board and first bataleon. Currently ride Capita mercury and Lib tech box knife. Need a board for when it dumps. Your vids are pure quality btw. Thanks.
Thanks Chris. I think if powder is going to be a main focus I'd get the 151. I weigh around 150lbs and the 151 still had plenty of stability and a nice sturdy flex. You'll have more surface area for more float with the 151, and a slightly more flexy playful feel with the 148 but I think you would really enjoy either size to be honest.
Hey, how does party wave in steep pistes ? I spend most of the time carving pistes, and some pow when lucky. I am looking for a great carving snowboard but really love the style of party wave :D. Would u have some recommendation ? Thanks
So is Camber good for carving? I bought a DC PBJ camber board because the shopkeeper told me it was good for all mountain and carving. I explained what I was looking for in a snowboard and this is the one he recommended. Did he lie to me for the sale? I want a board for speed and carving. I'm not a terrain park person at the moment (maybe later on after I've gained some more experience and have some free time if I break something, lol). I live in MN, but want to travel for more mountain action (we do have mountains in MN). I'm a beginner rider moving into intermediate and fast improving (I ride a lot). The board I learned on appears to be a Burton camber (it was gifted to me by a friend and is fairly old). Any recommendations? I was looking into the CAPiTA birds of a feather 2021 if I don't keep the DC. I need something that will take care of me as I continue to progress. Not looking to spend money on something I wont be using by next season y'know?
TJ, question for you on the Bataleon PW+. I’m currently riding an older Jones flagship 158(fairly stiff)and mostly ride groomers and some pow for high speed carving. I’m 5’10, 210lbs with size 11 boot. Will the 5.5 flex hold up for me while carving and turning, or should I find something a bit stiffer like another Flagship or Hovercraft, or a Bataleon Thunder or Carver?
I am 5'4" 165 lbs boot size 8-8.5. I am at the upper end of the weight spectrum for the 148 and right in the middle of the spectrum for the 151 with a waist width of 27.9. which should I go with? Any suggestions? Will the 151 be too big? I normally ride 151-154cm boards with a regular waist width. Should I be sizing down to the 148 with a waist width of 27.8?
Such a great video. Thanks TJ! Hopefully you or someone here can answer this, but I’m 5-11, 160-165, size 11.5 boot, would the party wave + in 151 be significantly different in riding from the 154?
I still love my Burton Custom X.. Very stiff full camber board. But you need to work it... Otherwise you won't get the full out off this board. I really want to enjoy some powder... But Covid still rules in Europe. 🙄
Hey TJ. I just picked up a 2nd hand 2017 ultracraft . I only got it becuase it was a super cheap deal. My local mountain doesnt get much powder. Mostly hard packed alpine conditions- how do you think it will hold up on firm groomers?
Was looking towards T.Rice orca for carving / occasional pow and going one size down. Big fan of magne-traction since it could be icy here on the east coast. What do you think?
So I am looking for a daily driver board for resort riding at Breck and Keystone, that holds an edge and carves up the groomers no matter the conditions. Is the Party Wave + a good choice?
For me the Party Wave + edged out the other party boards! This was a really tough list to put together, I could have included like 5 honorable mentions. Would have gone superpig over warpig for this category
@@BoardArchive maybe you could fo a vid just on the 5 honorable mentions? Call it the” not quite up to par to carve but will still be kinda fun to carve”? 🤣it is a solid list though and some interesting inclusions this year...
@@Bad_Riders hahaha hey those boards would still be amazing carvers. My goal with this list though was to include a nice variety and get people looking at some boards and brands they might not already be familiar with
@@BoardArchive yeah who isn’t familiar with the amazingness that is the warpig line up!? The boards are like the new camaro’s “modern classics” In saying that... when are you gonna do a vid on all mountain twins? And im not talking about @InmotiomSLB and @Shred1904 haha
