The wheels are smaller in size to make it easier for the electric motors to spin up, the larger the tires, the more torque requiired to get it moving - which then translates to a bigger battery due to the extra load on take off. i can see there being a higher top speed with larger tires due to obvious reasons - how ever i bet they use the 8-10inch tires because thats whats readily available and they are stuck in there ways. a 1ft diameter tire starts to seem a little large in my opinion but then again i think its mostly the scooter manufactures found something thats acceptable 90% of the time. goood video man

Huge yes to #5, standardized parts. I called six bike shops for some maint work on my scooter and NONE of them would take an electric scooter's business, even for a flat tire. They are a pain to maintain because nothing is standard yet.

I have watched hundreds of scooters videos. I own two scooters myself. This is the best video I have ever seen. I literally will not even consider Apollo scooters because of their lack of solid tires or tubeless tires on their best scooters. There is no excuse for any scooter to have anything less than 10 inch tires. Being worried that it might drizzle out and ruin any part of a scooter is not something a consumer should have to worry about. I think in the future people are going to laugh at the fact that we were driving these electric scooters with 8 inch wheels. Excellent video.

Regarding number one, I think you're misjudging the average consumer. Most need a last mile solution that they can put in their car, or bring with them on the bus or train. They don't need dual motor, 40mph and 60 miles range. So for them the small wheels are the perfect compromise between comfort and portability.

Well, I have used to use the Ninebot ES4 for my average commute to work, I found that I needed something else to get me into the city. I believe a lot of people who are getting into the E-Scooter scene have found out that they can be a way to get around and can be significantly cheaper than a car.

All good points. I would add 2 more, from my personal experience : 1. Option to have a fixed non-foldable steerer (or stem, as it's commonly - and erroneously - referred to in the e-scooter world). Especially on the heavy weight e-scooters, I cannot see the utility of a foldable steerer. It's not like you're gonna fold it and take it up a flight of stairs, then tuck it under some desk. 2. Adjustable handlebar height. This is a simple thing that can make your ride great or miserable. Unfortunately, modern Chinese people are just executants, invention and inovation are skills they barely start to rediscover. If they don't have a good original to copy, they can only get it right by chance.

Thank you for bringing up the point of tires that don't go flat. I used to go to work on my bicycle, and even though I would change the inner tube right after a flat, when I would ride it the very first day I would get another flat. it's so frustrating to know that nails do not respect brand new inner tubes. That's what stopped me from going to work on my bicycle.

Use some better tire sealant such as Armor-Dilloz or Flatout that can seal up to 1/2". Slime can only seal up tp 1/4". I always go with air filled tires because more grip when wet and longer range compared to solid tires. For speed wobble, you might need to install a steering damper. If you like Hiboy, you will love Ninebot Max.. because it's weatherproof, and the steering angle is perfect.

Tire changes does suck. I haven't had a flat in over 500 miles since changing to the "hybrid" 10" tires (the stock 10" tires on most scooters are extremely thin and easy to puncture) and using the super expensive tire sealant (which I tested and it did seal a large hole that standard tire slime could not seal). Tubeless tires don't offer greatly increased puncture protection vs well sealed tubes (tubeless offers better pinch flat protection but most scooter flats are from punctures, not pinches). Main advantage of tubeless (mountain bikers know this) is lighter weight and the ability to run at lower pressure for greater off road traction. Changing a tubeless tire is massively more difficult than replacing a bad tube (for my mountain bike its not even possible to inflate a new tubeless tire without a special pump that can push air in super fast). Tubeless tires still require tire sealant and the sealant needs to be refilled on a regular schedule (at least this is the case with quality mountain bikes). I managed to get a pinch flat on brand new tubeless tires on my Trek mountain bike about an hour into the first ride. I then found that I couldn't fix the tire without specialized tools and even worse a pinch flat in a tubeless tire normally means the tire is now destroyed and a new bike tire for my Trek was $100 vs $5 for a tube. I'll take tubes over tubeless any day, but many disagree. What everyone should agree on is the facts about what tubeless really offers vs tubes.

It would be better if scooter manufacturers built a frame around two larger 20+inch wheels. Additionally, the driver can sit between the two wheels for extra comfort. Batteries can be mounted on the frame and provide power to the rear wheel; or, better yet, use the space inside the frame to mount an engine for increased speed and torque. My invention has just revolutionized the scooter industry, incredilbe

I completely agree with your recommended changes. Your thoughts on head angle and tire size are little talked about but are super important. The faster today’s scooters become the more of an issue this is. These aren’t kick scooters so the design that is right for that isn’t right for a 30+ mph machine. Great vid!

There are good reasons why the last century there have been developed dozens of bicycles types (folded, mountain, with suspension) with and without powersupport, and regular scooters/mopeds/motorbikes, and stabilised Segway concepts. The small scooters you're reviewing in this channel are derived from toys (steps) for children and to be used in urban settings. Steps for adults use big wheels, which makes them lose the advantage of compactness and portability. Demanding to use this type of vehicle concept on long distances, all weather, safely, comfortably and off-road with high speeds, is almost like...asking a brick to fly and not being able to break a window. If you fulfill all of the future desired features, you might end up with a more or less regular e-bike/e-motorbike, with a seat (who wants to stand up straight while commuting longer distances..?), larger wheels, storage space, etc, etc..

My scooter has 11" wheels. 90/65-6.5.. Ive seen up to 13 inch wheels on a scooter. but youre right, larger wheels are definitely mandatory when going fast.. Every bump or pothole i hit i have a mini heart attack wondering if itll bottom out my suspension and/or pop a tire, or even stop me dead in my tracks and i flip over the handlebars.. When i ride with the seat it makes it less nerve wracking but id still prefer larger wheels.. Huge even depending on the terrain.. 16", even 20" tires that are still wide like dirt scooter tires with full large suspension. Thats my number one complaint about scooters nowadays.

Weight and the ability to handle hills are my main concern where scooters are concerned. I walk a lot of the places I travel to locally so being faster than walking is a win for me. Thus raw speed is one of my lower criteria as I think it's covered. I like the idea of a replaceable battery option. I can carry a fully charged spare in a backpack and double my range.

One thing I would like to see changed is the kickstand - most are ttoo short or placed in the wrong location. I’d like to see a dual stand that raises the rear tire off the ground. That would offer more stability, easier to work on the back end of the scooter, and add a few moments of safety from someone trying to jump on the scooter and take off.

The bigger powerful scooters need to take notes from the rental scooter market. The display should be installed in the middle, there should be a way more responsive throttle (with option to chose between finger, thumb or wrist actuated), wires should be routed inside the scooter, and all electric components need to be waterproof. Also, electrical connectors should be on the outside to make it easier to swap components.

With the intention to tear up some trails at 30+mph but I just couldn’t see spending more than a grand before shipping. Seeing as all the scooters that have that set up are all above that I’ve just been sitting to the side. But seeing these videos really wants to get one sense summer is right around the corner. I hope one of the start ups from kick starter makes some big jumps that will lower the price or make it feel like I’m getting my money’s worth

1. a good IP rating mandatory 2. road legality + removal of rental-scooter ( they are E-waste and get treated terribly and give the vehicle a bad reputation ) 3. self-healing tires and good build quality mandatory. repairability must be easy. 4.Turn signals that are actually easy to see and day lights 5. Long range mandatory ( at least 50 REAL km so that would mean 100km advertised ( realistic range is often the written range cut by 50%)

Excellent constructive suggestions! Slacker head angles and larger tires can give a more stable high speed ride, but add weight and reduce low speed maneuverability. A few scooters do have 11" - 13" tires, but these all weigh well over 100 pounds. The lack of waterproofed electronics is simply irresponsible manufacturing as is the lack of visible turn signals on most models. I'd like internal alarm and gps options, too. I'm surprised you gave stem assemblies a pass, as I have rarely seen such failure-prone kludges used so widely as in the folding stems on almost all scooters.

Very good video with excellent points. You have pretty much described the difference between what are still simply toys & what could be proper transportation. Your observations almost exactly mirror my reluctance to thus far purchase an electric scooter. I love the portability, practicality, & low maintenance vs larger combustible engine scooters or full size electric scooters for that matter. The idea of bringing my scoot inside with me or on public transit is a huge selling point. Until the standup electric kick & non kick scooter companies address all the issues you brought up, they will forever remain toys & not proper transportation. Especially the waterproof issue, wheel/tire size & parts standardization are also key factors. They already make them fast enough & no doubt longer life batteries are soon to come.

Great great video! So true about pneumatic tires and tire sizes. The thought process about pneumatic tires being better than tubeless tires because of increased traction and dampening was all fine and good until I got a flat on the 8" front tire of my Emove Cruiser going down a small hill, and went flying over the handlebars. I went home licking my wounds and put a tubeless tire on. I never had a problem with it again, and I rode it in the rain...(until the rear drum brakes seized). But new suspensions greatly reduce road shock quite sufficiently. Maybe Pneumatic tires are slightly better but not at the risk of injury. If I had to guess I'd say most of this issue has to do with money. I'm sure the cost of new tires and tooling will cut into company profits by increasing manufacturing costs. But if offered a good high end scooter with quality airless tires over pneumatic ones.. .well let's just say it would be a Huge selling point.

Differently agree with the 12" wheels, the makers have to stop living in the past when they go thier first scooter, tiny fun times, they grew up the scooters didn't.

i know its the nature of design but there has to be a way to increase range on these machines. paying well over 4000 usd for a product that will only get u a range of 70km is just not enough, its simply not enough. i know conditions and driving style plays a big role but at those prices, range anxiety should be non-existent!

There’s also laws in a lot of places that don’t allow over 10” wheels for these to be considered electric scooters instead of mopeds and require registration/license/insurance/etc

The point is, make a customizable e scooter with these ideas as options, because in today’s world you might get some but not all the features you prefer. I’m having such a hard time picking a new scooter For this exact reason, I’m like oh, it has that and that too, plus it does this, but man! I really wish it came with or could have that feature. When it comes to picking your poison I believe less maintenance is the way.

What is your opinion on Obarter X5 and X3? Its a 12inch tyre scooter found on Banggood. It also has an IP54 rating. This will be my first scooter purchase but i am experienced with driving them. Thank you in advance ,also i like your scooter content! Cya around

12" solid or foam tube would rock. Even on the smaller m365 clones

In my opinion most important for scooter users and community 1.build quality 2.distance 3.And I think most popular would be scooters 1000w( that's legal limit in most of the countries ) and good combination of power and economy. But is no choice at all ..or if you found scooter with 1kw is incompatible with points 1 and 2. If you know good quality and good range 1kw scooter please tell me

I have got 11 inch tubeless tyres on my Quickwheel Explorer and they feel much better than the 10 inch tyres. As for the rain. I always ride my scooters in the rain and never had trouble. It's strange you getting so many punctures. Are you riding in the gutter? Very unusual to get that many punctures

I think a lot of manufacturers are happy to maintain a bad market. They want people to want an escooter, know they can't afford a proper one, go for one within their budget, and ultimately be stuck with a bad product that they can't maintain.

Well I have a Dualtron Eagle Pro let me give a shout out to the Emove cruiser. They are headed in the right direction in terms of ipx rating as their scooters are water resistant. If they ever make a hyper scooter that does 60 mph and sports dual motors I will be first in line to buy. They actually listen to their customers so just go look at the 2022 Emove scooter.

Yeah, but with smaller wheels you get better torque and quicker acceleration. With a larger wheel you need more powerful motors to achieve the same effect, which adds weight and cost. Weekly flats must have been terrible.

Riders might use air blow straw from air compressor to blow scooters dry up after riding in wet weather.
