the w8 Passat
First brought in 2003 the W8 Passat boasted 270hp. This was 100hp more than the 1.8t. The w8 was the first In the us to have Xenons and had a price tag around 40k. The w8 engine is such a cool engine which took its cues from the W12 engine introduced first in 1991 with the Audi Avus Quattro Concept. The awesome engine design is both its biggest cool factor and draw back. With so many repairs on the w8 engine requiring the engine to come out of the car the cost to fix this car can be astronomical. Couple that with the timing chain issues especially on the now high mileage 2003 model year car this car should be avoided for the average person.

V10 TDI Touareg
The V10 TDI was really an awesome truck. With 553 lbft of torque it was never in short supply of pulling power. Not only was this thing powerful but it was a luxury suv with a the nice touches you would expect. The V10 TDI came with a price tag around 70-80k and while they were not know to be extremely failure prone, the cost of the parts due to the rarity of the model makes this a pretty expensive car to maintain. Not to mention the 11 qts of specialized oil needed.

B6 and B7 Audi S4
We are putting the these models together as they are mechanically pretty similar. The b6 and b7 s4 models used a 4.2liter V8 that put out 340hp which made for a really fun car to drive. With a little exhaust work these 4.2 v8s sound spectacular. Now that we talked about all the good now here's the bad. Timing chains.... The 4.2 that came in the b6 and b7 s4s used timing chains which had issues with the timing chain adjusters that control the variable valve timing and the guides. Sounds bad but not too bad right well you have to take the engine out to access the chains so you're looking at an overhaul costing around 5-8k. VW Corrado
The Corrado is probably one of the VW models that all people VW owners and otherwise would look and an think it's a cool car. The Corrado followed the scirocco and was made from 89 to 94 in the US they had 2 engines the G60 which was a 1.8l supercharged engine and the VR6. The Corrado was an expensive car for its time

B5 Audi S4
The B5 s4 in my eyes is the a really awesome and fun car. The b5 s4 had a 2.7l V6 twin turbo engine. This engine in the factory form put out 251 hp but with a simple software tune you would be at 320hp. And for the guys who upgraded their turbos they could get over 400hp. The major issues that plagued the 2.7t was turbo failures. Turbos are expensive and there are 2 of them. Since you have to take the engine out to replace your turbos it often makes sense to replace them together with new or quality rebuilt ones. The B5 s4 also used a 4 link front suspension which I is really great as far as handling but it means that the aged b5 s4 you have will almost certainly need 8 new control arms and if you live in a place where there is snow better plan on breaking out a blow torch to get the rusted suspension components apart. Add the fact that you will likely need a clutch and timing belt to your newly purchased used S4 and I think we can see that the costs pilling up.
Keep in mind something all of the cars mentioned in this list are awesome fun and exciting vehicles. I'm not saying you shouldn't own them. In fact I own a Corrado which happens to be a thorn in my side and number 2 on this list. I'm saying if you want to own one of the cars you should know what you're getting into....
