Like Saddam or Khaddafi. Did U know that there are many special Saddam watches? Often presented as gifts to Bath Party Members. Some American vets brought these home as souvenirs.
I agree Mass Murderer Rodrigo Duterte is a known watch lover, having visited the Jaeger Le Coultre store in Manila recently. And rumored to favor Panerais.
One interesting exception is Tony Accardo, who headed the Chicago Outfit after Capone. He was the polar opposite of Capone; he spent almost no time in jail, never went to prison, and died at age 86 of natural causes. He wasn't flashy like Capone, so I think he wore an Elgin, or maybe a Hamilton.
My Rolex Submariner Replica is 6 years old. I wear it every day since I bought it from submariner(dot)store It never loses even second a day, Miyota movement but looks 1:1 i compare it to real one. Never serviced.
This is an outstanding piece of research into history's most infamous gangsters and their watches. Apparently, infamous gangsters had amazingly good taste in watches. Thank you for the insight, TGV.
Dear Urban Gentry, thank you for such generous effort in research and video production. You are reaching documentary level quality content in a youtube video production. Much appreciated, looking forward for much more to come.
Bulova peak was in the 1960's when they sold millions of Accutron watches around the would, maybe you might remember "The World Runs On Bulova Time" ???
The Bugsey watch is a Bulova "Knicerbocker". They were made in the mid to late 40s, 17j 8AH mvmnt. I have a 1947 manufactured Knickerbocker in my collection. The watch head was also paired with other bracelets and were known by other names. It has been seen as the Clinton and the Chief...both with different bracelets.
Absolutely fascinating. When you can tie together mobster lore, some personality snippets, and top it off with horology I could watch this stuff all day. Thanks TGV.
The picture for Capone's cell is actually his cell at Eastern State Penitentiary. In 1929 he was stopped in Philadelphia on his way back to Chicago and was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, He served 8 months of a one year sentence.
@@DANTHETUBEMAN That's what happens when you're a violent criminal. The occupational death rate is slightly higher than for, say, accountants and clerks.
all that ice kills the value though. my first rolex was a datejust that had been fitted with a diamond bezel, it dropped the value considerably. after buying it i had an original bezel installed and when i sold it i got 1000 more than i paid for it. my current watch and all time favorite is the rolex explorer in stainless steel.
An excellent Mini Documentary TGV! Absolutely fascinating to learn about what watches they wore. Gangsters...Like them or loathe them, they're part of history. Love to see some more documentaries.
I like Rolex but they are very overpriced and overhyped . Bulova makes an excellent watch that is not terribly terribly overpriced . The Bulova Sutton model is quite beautiful and worth every penny IMHO .
Amazing video as always TGV I'm an American crime buff not to mention watch addict and huge fan and supporter of your channel I can't thank you enough for your insight and wisdom many thanks.
Some great Iconic guys there even if they did stand for some of the most unforgiving crimes😢 aleast they didnt support fake watch crime😅good video TGV.
I’d have to say, Capone’s Rolex is the pic of the bunch for me. I’m not much of a dress watch type person, but that Prince was very alluring. I agree with GuitAural’s suggestion for you to maybe do a piece on Film Stars of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s era TGV. Exellent idea👌🏻.
Man, I'm 21 years old and Everytime I watch a video of yours it just gets me more and more into them . My lady thinks it's the most boring thing lol. But it brings the most genuine smile when I put on a casio , timex or a bulova. Please keep it up.
Was watching one of your earlier videos today which discussed gift ideas. I know you’re a big fan of stones etc and was wondering if there’s a certain type of stone which is blood red colour or similar to that of the burgundy black bay bezel? Thanks Also, I put down a deposit of my first Rolex today. Yachtmaster 116622 with rhodium dial, I pick it up Wednesday! Over the moon, your video review from awhile back defo helped me make my decision! Cheers tgv, keep up the great work. Regards, Oli
Congrats on your first step to getting that yachty, cracking choice. With regards to stones, I would deffo look at garnet, maybe even blood stone, it has flicks of red in it, check out red jasper too. That is just off the top of the head, but plenty more I suspect. Happy hunting. Thank you, Best regards,, TGV
I don't know if it's the same watch but a couple years ago a Rolex owned by pablo Escobar fetched only 20 thousand dollars at an auction in Colombia,Gandhi his eye glasses sold for 8 million
It's very interesting that of all the things a person possesses a timepiece can define you.the reasons behind the choice and what it says about your individuality. A personal choice that others judge you by.good work fella.
HEY, great video. You are truly inspiring and entertaining. I am working on my own watch collection, and your videos and channel have inspired me to create a RU-vid channel to share my watch collecting journey. I'm going to be posting my first video in 30 minutes so if anyone that want to lend any support and provide any feedback, it's greatly appreciated. Thanks again for being so inspiring.
Bull-a-va it is pronounced Bulova no long o look up the commercials on RU-vid and 'faces of 1983' one of Muhammad Ali with a watch on either wrist long before the general.
TGV - The shot up car in the Dillinger segment is actually the car Bonnie and Clyde were shredded in. Not related to Dillenger at all, although the end result was very similar. This was a most interesting video!. More videos along these lines would be greatly appreciated.
Well spotted, it was indeed. You hit the nail on the head with what I was trying to show there via the bonnie and clyde car. Hopefully more soon, time permitting as always! Thank you :D Best regards, TGV
Wow! Such an amazing Sunday eve surprise, mamma mia! Awww and incredibly weird part of the criminology and chronology in the same time. At least they had good taste at watches, lol. Very interesting subject! Rolex Princess is very pretty, my favourite from the whole selection. :) Thanks for sharing. Regards, Robert ;)
This was an interesting a fun one. Can't really add to real gangsters, but fictional ones, I have to say Tony Montana's Omega La Magique from "Scarface" always stood out to me. It was the perfect watch for the character. An 80s luxury quartz watch. The design was innovative and unique and in some ways exotic for its time with its cold case and floating hands and transparent dial which you could see clear through the center of the watch. The unusual thing about it in the movie was it appears to have been worn upside down.. Or rather inside out (backside up, front down) for most, if not, all of the movie. Not sure why that was, but a cool and proper watch for the times for one of the greatest gangster movies of all time. This may be a topic for another video in the future, fictional gangster watches.
So I take back the comment that this video is quite similar... and thank you for your great comment on my video and subscription to my channel!! I'm honoured!!! :)
Please upload your pc wallpaper collection again! A few of us missed it and want it so badly. Big fan of your work and can’t call it a day without watching atleast one video or two from you, keep being great!
you missed the biggest gangsters in the world! I saw the title and thought this was going to be a special edition on the watches of American presidents.
Piaget 18 kt was in voque with LA/Vegas/NYC mobsters in the 70's/80's. Then it was 18kt slim pieces with integrated bracelets, like the Piaget Polo. Check your mail this week for two individual wrist watch checks, one of which you particularly may find of interest along with the accompanying article. Both men featured are good guys, one a dignitary and the other an Urban Gentry who has been around. Cheers, JP
Fantastic well researched video TGV! Gangsters can be a touchy subject for some, but history is full of uncomfortable subjects, doesn't mean people can't learn from them. Great video full of knowledge without "glorifying" the subject. 👍
Hey TGV greetings from Colombia. The story on Pablo Escobar’s iced out Day Date is fake although it continues to come up on different watch accounts on Instagram. The watch never belonged to Escobar, there is not a single picture of him wearing that watch. Instead he wore a blue dial watch with a leather strap that is currently displayed in Colombia’s National Police Museum in Bogotá, you can find pictures of it if you google “reloj Pablo Escobar”. Escobar used to gift Cartier watches to the many women that he had over the years.
I'm not a big fan of Rolex but; the design for the Prince is something that I may consider adding to my collection. (FULL DISCLOSURE: I own two {2} Rolexes.) as an American I am drawn to US brands. I have seventeen (17) in my collection. Fourteen (14) are wrist watches. The other three (3) are; "Railroad Grade", pocket watches. I'm a lack of space to list Swiss brands that I love in my collection in detail. Short list: Vacheron, Patek, Audimars, Cartier, Baume; and, JL.
From this we can assume that to become a crime boss, you either need a mechanical watch that sports sub second dial or a Rolex. Or both (as Capone had). 😄
love this kind of video, what about if the next would be cumunist watches? The che Guevara and Fidel Castro had some really cool watches, i dont know much about the iron curtain time pieces, but im sure they had some great ones too.
*Do Frank "Drug Kingpin" Lucas (Who Mobster where getting their drugs from because he was getting pure uncut heroin), Bumpy Johnson, Nicky Barnes, Frank Matthews and "Freeway" Rick Ross these guys knew how to flex gold and diamonds!*
Most interesting video. Bravo. I liked the Siegal watch best. Whoever got Escobar`s watch got a good deal. Talk to us about the Hamilton Ventura sometime.
The irony of TGV being Italian himself is entertaining me more than the fine taste of watches! How much did it help with research, may i ask with the utmost respect and humor?
What can be more "gangster" than wearing an Invicta's Hydromax? It can be used as a defensive shield to deflect a f**king bullet or even better, a weapon that will surpass Thor's hammer itself. Period
Haha, I think it just comes naturally to him, he has very littler regards for any kind of authority other than him own :D A lovable rotter in other words. Thank you Kevin, Best regards, TGV
Good video. But the name 'gangster' is pejorative and disrespectful. These men were powerful leaders of their respective communities. They lived outside of conventional morality, much like soldiers. They are deservant of respect.
Hi, I noticed at the 12:40 mark you have a photo of Al Capone’s cell at Alcatraz. But that is actually Al Capone‘s cell at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. It is a very historic prison and it’s designs I’ve been copied in prisons around the world, and is now open for tours.
Top notch as always! Nasty rumor about Hugo's forthcoming Jurassic Gentry channel...keep your friends close and Hugo closer TGV... This needs a part 2 : ) Film Stars of the 30's / 40's / 50's, etc...TV Stars of same period, etc.
Haha, great idea! I love it, thank you. As for Hugo, he is far too lazy to start a channel, besides, I think he would consider it beneath him LOL Best regards, TGV
Respect to these legends in this video, any man from the street's should look back at how these men conducted themselves and their business... true gangsters. Rarely will you find honor amongst thieves these days, its every man for himself, you resemble a rat scurrying for ANY way out.. I wonder what gangsters back then wore a Lord Elgin, love those watches
