Got my Gen 3 G17, 10 Day waiting period only took 19 days. First upgrade was the extended slide release/stop. Next will be the sights. Thanks Reno, as a new gun owner, I find your videos informative and entertaining. First channel I’ve ever subscribed to. Keep up the great work.
Love this video, which really helped me. The mag extender button is a must for me. The sights and hand grip and second extender is a win. And flashlight since... mine isn't a ccw but home defense. For a new gun owner...tank you, so glad I landed on your channel.
I'm pretty much went from race glock back to getting stuck with a "factory setting" glock 17 because I got my hands on 90k small rifle primers years ago. Long story short...the most effective way to ignite those thicker primers is with heavy striker spring...then one balance of a spring leads to another you all glock owners know what I mean.
If you want a light that gives you visibility without broadcasting your presence, I personally would go with the Red light used by the military. It also does not effect your normal night vision, which is A+. This light type is sold commercially for hunting/outdoor use. Someone breaks into your home or business, odds are they will not expect this kind of light nor recognize it
I grabbed the OEM extended slide stop and mag release based on your first rendition of this video. 10/10 would buy again. Thanks a ton for all the great content you put out.
That was a subtle but completely unwarranted jab at Olight 😂.... I personally have had nothing but great experiences but I can agree the holster market is very narrow for them. All other mods were on point 👍🏼 nice video sir
My Gen 3 19 has 3 mods: XS Big Dot (I'd rather have a blacked out rear and fiber or some bright front), a extended slide release, and 3lb Ghost disconnect. My light is either a Streamlight TLR-1 HL or TLR-7A. Holsters are Tenicor Sagax lux or Darkstar Rigel tlr-1.
Thinking about getting a glock gen 3 or 4, quite honestly whatever’s available on the used market, and I found this very informative for my future purchase. Another great video Reno!
On my Glock 19 Gen 5 I bought a few months ago, I simply got extended controls (i.e. slide release/stop, slide lock, mag release), a tactical flashlight, and a set of Ameriglo Night Sights. My sights glow in low light, but are blacked out during day with a red ring around the front sight and they are the Agent Ameriglo sights so they have a "U" for the rear sights. I also have some grip tape strips on the top and sides for gripping the slide (since my model doesn't have front serrations and I don't feel like spending the 150+ dollars on front serrations). I believe in being tactical not "tacticool" so I think anyone who wants to accessorize their guns should first prioritize practicality over aesthetics.
@@epocholypse8638 yeah and your fingers work fine when it comes to pulling the trigger but the moment you need to send the slide forward it goofs? Yeah okay haha.
Nicely put, agree with everything. One thing I'd mention is that I recommend some practice under stress with the extended slide stop/release. When I switcehd everything seemed fine with dry fire practice, but I found out in some USPSA matches that my thumb would interfer with the extended release enough to cause it to not lock back on last round. I switched back to the normal release for a while and that fixed it, but then just sucked it up and fixed my grip. I suppose that goes for everything, whatever changes you make, get out and practice with it to make sure everything works as expected.
If your broke and want something nice for grip, Wrap it with Coban(The tacky textured surgical wrap) i use it on axe/tomahawk handles, Crossbows, etc. It makes any hard grip feel so much better, Easy to replace, and its cheap as well as it comes in a lot of colors
Most people won’t take training so I think a olight is great for the house I haven’t had any problems with it in 2 classes that I have taken night sights are a must everything else is pleasure you can get used to it
Speaking of Olight they're going to have a sale on the 8th where the PL-2 Valkyrie will be only $73. A good option for people who maybe can't afford a TLR-1 or Surefire.
@@Questionable_Talent I understand if people don't want to support a Chinese company. But the lights themselves are good quality, they've been tortured tested and recommended by RU-vidrs like Iraqveteran8888 and Mrgunsngear.
First thing that has to go is those horrific sights. It's a joke that they still even make them like that. Are they usable, yeah. But they could at least make them steel, come on Glock!
I’m digging the TLR-7A. The TLR-1HL was too thick and long for my comfort and the X300U I’ve got is for OWB purposes for the same reason of being too long for AIWB.
If you haven’t already proven that the extended slide stop doesn’t get under your thumbs, and you have size L or larger hands, I don’t think I’d put one on a Glock in quarantine times without practice. Those with bigger hands often have the slide either not lock back on empty mag, or randomly lock back when it shouldn’t, from thumbs pushing it up or holding it down, especially with a really high grip.
I would personally also add Talon grips...the rubber ones for me. lol But that is a personal preference. Cheap add on that has improved the grip on my Glock. Agree on the extended mag release....although for those of us with REALLY tiny hands, you are still going to have to switch your grip to release the mag. I am now on the hunt for a mag release I like with the same extension with possibly a much larger plate. Not sure, but there has to be something I can reach a bit easier without the grip change.
Amazon has a gun magnet with a trigger guard. I ordered it and am waiting for it to arrive. Waiting to see if it is a viable option to keep my firearm next to the bed at night without the holster.
I’ve considered bolting a piece of old belt to my bed frame so I can take the holster off and attach the whole thing to the nightstand or belt. But would have to have the right amount of tension and slack to be able to pull the gun out easy but not have the whole thing come out without intentionally removing the holster.
Tritium isn't "radioactive," it's by-god-no-finger-quotes radioactive. It's an isotope (same number of protons, two extra neutrons) of Hydrogen, and it emits Beta particles as it decays. It is those Beta particles that strike a phosphorescent compound causing it to glow. The half-life of Tritium is about twelve and one-third years, which is why Tritium sights get too dim to use after about a decade. Tritium sights are safe because the Beta particles that are emitted as it decays can only pass through about six millimeters of air, and can't penetrate our outer layer of dead skin cells at all, from any distance. That said, don't ingest Tritium sights, or otherwise take them inside your body (Tritium butt plugs are right out).
I made a couple videos on Glock upgrades as well. I'm a huge fan of O-light. The PL Valkyrie line and PL-mini 2 lights are fantastic options. I've never had an issue with their reliability which is why I keep buying them. Also, doing the 25 cent trigger job is one of the best upgrades you can do to your Glock that is very inexpensive. Lastly, trigger spring kits are a great option that are also very affordable and give you a great bang for your buck.
Only thing i would watch out for is on the tfx pros if your drawing from a holster theres a higher chance of breaking the front sight. We've had a few come back to the shop from Cops and Comp shooters
I found something cool, and not expensive that feels good. Coban, the surgical wrap that has the tacky texture. I use it on all kinds of grips: Axe handles, Crossbows, etc.
Reno my place is rather small. I have a green laser.. it provides a little more light than a red laser. So a flash lite is not that necessary for me. At my folks house ya need a light. Also works much better in the day time( green) Unless your in the woods.lol
Glock upgrade No. 1: Throw it away and buy a 1911. The only worthwhile upgrade. I'm just joking, of course. While I'm not much of a Glock fan, the most common upgrade I see missing I think every new pistol owner should get is a flared magwell to help make reloading a little easier. You would not be surprised how many times I've seen someone at a range fumble their reload without any pressure whatsoever.
The phalanx defends holster is one I can safely recommend. It claims to hold 100+ diff firearms and they also make holsters that comes with light bearing capabilities. It's a hard kydex type material that is form fitted with that positive click. I've tried all double stack glock, p80, g2c, 1911, Sig 229 & 250, s&w m&p and sd40 and each one fit and held gun in place. The 1911 wasn't as snug fit but it didn't fall out when held upside down and shaken. I think it was 30$ at academy sports but AIM surplus sales them with light bearing capabilities. to have 1 holster for a 17,19,and 26 that keeps gun tucked close to your side and is safe to carry is a pretty nice option.
Got my gen 4 Glock 34 MOS, the stock trigger on it isn’t bad at all compared to let’s say a G19 or G26. You also can buy a rmr for around the cost of a set of GOOD aftermarket sites for your Glock. Just food for your thoughts before you pick up another Glock😄
To all you dweebs only thing you need to upgrade is night sights and get a good weapon light thats it, nothing more nothing less, i would also recommend a talon grip or hogue grip for you know extra grip on your firearm.
I would respectfully submit that if you are in your own home, you can definitely point your weapon-mounted light (and therefore your weapon) at a perceived threat provided you have a reasonable basis for perceiving a threat (i.e. you just heard glass shatter). If that makes you uncomfortable, hold your gun at a low ready and just bounce the light off the ground. No need to use a separate light in your own home when investigating a threat provided you have a reasonable basis for your actions. Also, remember that California law has a presumption of lawfulness when defending your home against forcible entry (PC 198.5). Just my $0.02.
I am a mother of a teenager. Kids do stupid shit. I am reminded of a law enforcement officer that accidentally shot his own teenager to death as she snuck in through a window one night after breaking curfew. I need to know who/what I am pointing my firearm at in my home before I point it. I would rather die than put a round in one of my kids friends who decided that climbing in the window to hang out at 3am was a good idea and then got spooked and came at me when they saw a gun pointed at them. Things happen in the heat of the moment when firearms are involved. That is why even in your own home it can sometimes be a good idea to identify who/what is in your house before you aim a firearm at it. But that is MY situation. Everyone has to make those determinations themselves based on their own living situations.
I do have a question about holsters. I will pick up my Glock 17 on Monday, and I’m also in California. Is there any practical use for holsters outside of the home? You can’t holster at most ranges, and I can’t get a CCW, so is it really worth getting a holster? Do you carry outside of your home?
After carrying a 1911 Commander for years i finally got tired of the heavy pistol so i bought a 3rd Gen Glock 19. I never liked Glock and even had a Gen 1 M&P 9mm that i sold before i ever shot it. But Glock has proven to shoot well so i pulled the trigger and bought one over a year ago. Still havent shot it. But the trigger is awful compared to the 1911 and the mag release is near impossible to work, even two handed. Damned if you do and damned if you dont.
Glock perfection was a marketing plan ... it wasn't a brag, but a humble boast.... this pistol is going to be easier to make your perfect pistol ... in my opinion
Whats wrong with an olight with a laser combo just asking because I heard you say its not a quality part,so what laser/light do i use for my glock 19 gen 5 ??? Im a new gun owner,I appreciate the insight....
Glock Perfection - Glock 44 All jokes aside... or is it... anyways... I have term for Glock user called "Glock Trap" where people make their Glocks so Gucci that the return is SOOOOO low.
Hey reno i am excited to get my custom glock 17 but the waiting period is more than 10 days right now it’s like 17 days here in southern california I don’t know what’s going on but it sucks!!!
I live in California and have a Glock 23 with an apex trigger with apex connector. Do you think i should not use the apex connector and use the oem connector on the apex trigger instead to be on the safe side? Ps: This is not a ccw gun, just a range and home defense gun.
