@@johnlau8461 basically hamilton slowed down to let alonso cross the DRS detection line first so HAM will get the DRS down the straight, but alonso wasn't having any of it
4:45 Love this - Hamilton lifts off to try and let Alonso edge ahead before the DRS line. Alonso spots it immediately and also backs off to make sure he gets the DRS instead. These two never miss a trick.
@@allthekingshorses7178 Two the best in F1 history! The fact that they touched wheels, ever so slightly, in 2 of these encounters shows their unparalleled precision 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Absolutely. Sadly the big differences between Mercedes and the rest of the world had stolen us the spectacle of seeing Alonso, Kimi, and other epic drives fighting with HAM. Verstapen,Vettel or Leclerc just know to push the rivals out of the track and make them crash. What a pity
@Marcus Summers Bruh, Hamilton was racing him everytime he had duels with Fernando in this video. He did nothing illegal. He is fully allowed to be the minister of defense. I can smell that you are a Hamilton fan.
@Marcus Summers You’re just salty Alonso cost Hamilton the win with his master defence. I doubt you’ve watched F1 for a long time because if you had you’d know every driver which has something to lose if they get overtaken (in Alonso’s case Alpine’s first win) will defend, it’s not a motorway, it’s an f1 race, if someone is faster, you do everything possible to keep them behind. Simple as that 🙂. Hope this helps you understand!
@@ScottOrd Yep! There's a detection line, where they detect who's where and what the gaps are, and then an activation line, where drivers can push the button to activate DRS.
@@vb917 you mean defending on the slimmest track on the calendar ?? Lol I think you’re insulting Alonso by saying that’s his best drive ever. Where was this defence when Lewis blew past him in one lap in Brazil ?? Lol silly

I speak Spanish so I thought I’d help you out, Google translate might give you a weird translation but check it anyway just in case :)
That 2007 McLaren line-up of Hamilton and Alonso was crazy. In terms of sheer driver quality, it was the best F1 driver line-up since Prost and Senna. The car was absolutely gorgeous, as well.
True man... I can't even think of seeing f1 without lewis Hamilton... If Vettel, alonso, lewis retires I'm sure i never gonna watch f1 again... I can't watch it
@@muhammedsamil2891 so true. It's ince seeing new drivers but unless someone is a new fan, the day Lewis, seb, Kimi and Alonso aren't in the sport will be a sad day. They have been icons and faces of the sport for so long and have shown that even with age, they are incredibly capable
This is gonna happen in motogp without valentino...i canmot imagine sport without such incredible legends but time flies and sadly on day we wont see lewis nando seb and kimi on grid
@@tombardsley3081 Hamilton had the same or better cars and he didn't won either... Maybe we had to point the dominance of RB and Mercedes, not the talent.
@@mindujiman cos a team and driver did a better job in those seasons. Hamilton took himself out of the 2010 championship with the incidents he had in Italy and Singapore. 2011, Hamilton had a bad year whilst Vettel and Red bull were pretty much perfect (which red bull/Vettel don’t get enough credit for given how much praise Mercedes/Hamilton got for 2020) . 2012 was where McLaren dropped the ball and sealed Hamilton’s decision to move to Mercedes. F1 has always been about the best driver car combination
Yup, exactly. Ham and Alo race each other very fairly but super hard at the same time. Unfortunately, Max likes to push the other driver if he is on the inside. Instead of getting a long drawn out multiple corner racing, we end up getting Ham pushed to another zip code. Come on Max, think about us fans bro
@@maazahmed2336 Really starting to get tired of Max's "Wheel to wheel" racing skill that the F1 Commentators keep speaking of... It's not craftmanship it's just barrelling in and hoping the other driver avoids a crash

@@mozzaplaysgames7897 Well it's given him 20 wins and has made sure drivers are afraid to be aggressive with him so it works. He's like F1's Dale Earnhardt
@Combat Mania yes. Look how Hamilton brakes just in front of DRS detection line to get DRS and Alonso in a instant reaction did the same to mantain DRS for next straight. Its awesome how fast he saw the trick and reacts to defend himself. This is why he is a legend.

The thing about career choices is that they're always made in hindsight. The logical thing to do back then was to join Ferrari. Who could've predicted that Brawn would win in their first ever season?
@@youraveragepasser-by7367 It certainly wasn’t logical to join McLaren, who were on a downward trend. Although Ferrari weren’t doing better, with McLaren leaving Mercedes power it was more obvious to stay w Ferrari, who became competitive in 2017/18. But Alonso was already frustrated of 5 seasons without a truly fast car that could win a championship.
@@daniel6323 and he couldn't even be mad at McLaren for doing so bad since it was mostly down to the Honda engines braking down and under performing badly. We saw what Alonso can do in a car thats slower then a Mercedes last week (granted overtaking isn't easy in Hungary) but with that car holding Lewis off for as long as he did. I hope we get to see more of his Wide car defending, and hopefully some pole positions as well.
his timing was always off...leaving mcleran the first time, leaving ferrari ... ferrari's own people said that if it had been him in that car instead of seb, he would have won at least 2 more championships! and lewis hamilton himself says that alonso is the best driver he has ever raced against. i think most people who understand racing would concur.
This shows why imo Alonso is one of the all time greatest, even without the high number of championships. His skills and ability is unrivaled. Even MSC himself struggles more after his comeback. And Fernando has always been able to outdrive a car. Sooo great that newer fans also get to see his talent live!
@@kundakaps Well, when had Lewis won races in far inferior cars? Like Alonso did in his Ferrari days? It’s easy to pick one moment that contradicts my statement and I know I’m probably factually wrong, but based on an average that spans decades, I think we can all agree Fernando is able to far outperform his cars, and that’s (almost) unrivaled. I don’t think Max nor Lewis not any other driver, at least from since I was following the sport (2nd half of ‘90s), has been as consistent as Fernando in grossly overachieving with their cars.
@@maverickm497 I didnt want to talk about his racecraft just about the hability to "close doors". After Silverstone 2010 and Abu Dhabi 2010 Mark accepted that RedBull wanted a number two not a number one and i think this affected his performance forever.
Alonso in the McLaren and Alpine holding Lewis back in a Mercedes shows us who the better driver is between them. One was always a car champion and the other one takes so much more out the cars that he has in the years.
Not a Hamilton fan, but in 2007 Hamilton 6 poles vs Alonso's 2 poles. Sure the team might have favored Lewis but he was still a rookie. In qualifying pace, Hamilton is incredibly quick, maybe the fastest in history (if you perhaps exclude Senna or maybe Schumacher). Alonso is the better racer, he is a masterful tactician, you saw that in Qatar 2021 and many times in 2023.
F1 Liberty have been reading the fans comments since their Hungary duel, and blessed us with this video of these 2 legends. Let's hope Alpine give Fernando a better car for the 22 regs
If Alonso had a competitive car as long as Lewis had, there would be another name on those 7 world title cups (in fact, Alonso would probably have 9 by now).
It’s sad that the f1 Community won’t appreciate these drivers until their gone. Regardless of if you like them or not you can’t deny talent when you see it.
This is frigging spectacular. These two date back from decades ago. Both starting at age 8. Beautiful, priceless racing Legends. Love these two individuals so much.
@@dinho5174 no, he was, for sure. He did not take all the risks (ex : attack in T4), but in general, he was giving everything in T1-T3 and wanted to take as much points as possible
Hamilton's car was damaged in Mexico. He got hit by Vettel and also picked up floor damage going off track avoiding the other cars on lap 1. That's the reason he ended up fighting back from last in the first place.
he eases on the gas.. he's not braking! that's 100% needed in order to get some space and have the edge for the next corner. mercs are waaay faster if you start from pretty much the same speed up to the next corner!
A lot of it was Hamilton not wanting to wreck the car being risky. It’s a thin track so he was patient. although it was great, I can think of better duels that gave me goosebumps.
I think that you should've added their fight in Australia 2010. Hamilton was much faster and on a much fresher rubber, but Alonso was making 0 mistakes.
Current f1 is amazing in giving the fans all the content they want. Understanding the power of social media and RU-vid/Netflix. Combine that with plans of going more green, spending less money overall and changing up the tracks, with this year alone multiple tracks that hasn't seen f1 in a while. Makes for great viewing pleasure off and on track for the fans. And i am loving it.
Hamilton have been the guy to beat in F1 for over 14 years. Some people will say "well it's the car" that's a cheap cheap argument. He was in the same car with Alonso at McLaren, he was in the same car with Rosberg and Rosberg managed to beat him to the championship in 2016 after trying for 3 years and then he retires. All the guys that have fought Lewis have all given up and teenagers have grown up (Max) to start fighting him again. What a stellar longevity. What a talent. What a hard worker.
14 years? Are you dumb or what? As far as I know, in the 2014-2020, mercedes were the team to beat and not only hamilton but they had the fastest car. The other years, it was different drivers, especially vettel in the 2010-2013 era. Use ur brain next time
The only guy on the grid who can make hamilton sweating even in a MERC is Freaking ALONSO even in an inferior car.i don't think even max can hold hamilton off for that much time even in redbull in hungaroring. 4:44 - Wow the reaction time from Fernando here is immaculate. Lewis tried to brake just before the drs detection point so he would be behind and thus get the drs for the following straight. Fernando, while going 200+ kph and while trying to overtake Lewis, realises this and manages to react to this in such a short amount of time to get the drs so he can try and overtake on the straight. That’s insane!
I remember Mexico 2017 was the last time they really raced hard, when Alonso still says "we have the best chassis". Few month afterwards, they use Renault engine, and exposed their chassis weakness...
the 2018 McLaren was a different car compared to 2017. Their 2017 chassis was great but the Honda a disaster. 2018 chassis got outdeveloped pretty early
Despite being a big Alonso fan, that 2007 Indianapolis fight is the prove of how talented Hamilton is. Rookie driver, defending against the 2 time defending world champion at the time, Alonso at the top of his game just pure master class. How fortunate we are to see this kinda battles.
Has nothing to do with that here. Fernando couldn't pass lewis here period. Fernando had preferential treatment in qualifyings and the races for the first 6 Gps by getting lighter fuel load thank lewis. Canada Was the first race they both had equal fuel loads and lewis put it on pole and won the race emphatically. Let's stop the lies. @@truth4reel dude these cars has lots and lots of adjustments not only fuel. Drivers can only give feedback about the car then engineers will adjust the wings and stuff. So If a team decide to slow down a driver they can do it sooo easily. I'm not saying they did this to Alonso but it's doable.
