@@gicking3898 Thats where the show went down and stayed shaky from season 5 - 8...and I liked how it did go don, because it shows the role and importance of a father in every man's life. AS much as it wasn't intentional on the part of the show runners, it just shows that everybody reacted to it subconsciously without knowing that was one of the bigger reasons season 5-7 were not so loved. The show runners were even crippled on how to properly keep the magic and opted to draw out the relationship of Clark and Lana which also failed and didn't sit well with a lot of viewers as many saw a glimpse of an example of a relationship doomed to fail. Then comes in season 8-10, thing get more mature and soulful, the writers get their fire back, the main actors are older and more experienced and there is a fresh story that could have honestly been a series called "METROPOLIS " lol. Season 8-10 has got to be some of the best rebounds and saves I've ever seen in a series. The icing on the cake was the Clark and Lois relationship which every couple can take some lessons from. The season finally really solidified the show as one of the best of all time despite its flaws. If this show ever makes it way to Netflix, it probably will cause a crazy wave from old and new fans alike
I want to see like when he was young. Like I wonder when his parents actually saw that he was something different. ( Except for finding him near a spaceship ). It's kinda sweet that he didn't understand at first. Clark is a good character. I really like him.
Oh please. This movie really was a foreshadowing of the way our society will be today. Everyone seemingly wants to adopt the victim mentality and blame others for everything, When instead we can be victors and choose our destinies. The so called victims you reference chose to be reactive rather than Proactive. Now Clark does have some fault, but no one controls anyone's destiny except themselves.
Michael Rosenbaum is by far the best Lex Luthor. I grew up watching this and loved the bromance between the two until it started going toward well the current scene we see at #1.
in real life, Michael is actually really goofy and plays around alot, his personality is all over the place, but when he focuses on his acting skills, he made a great Lex Luthor
@@koulor315 Yeah, he's a tremendous dramatic actor which he shown in Smallville. It's sad he didn't have opportunity to show this side of him in different projects. Although even in the scene provided in this vid he has a comedic line; "This is a big step up from the barn" rofl
@@ansem6167 while I do admit season 1-4 was good, season 8-10 was far even more soulful, mature and magical. Clana is like smoldering fire, but CLOIS!!..CLOIS is like the raging flames of intimate desires
Best line from these clips: "I must admit, Clark. This is a big step up from the barn." What's funny about the Chloe clip is that she THOUGHT she already knew his secret when she witnessed him catch her car, but the revelation went beyond even what SHE was able to fathom. Thanks for posting.
Wow.. thanks for that... need subtitles cuz the clear and precise dialogue in this video is too good and easy to understand... what would we do without people like you commenting shit we can hear ourselves?.. well I guess we would have less attention whores for starters..
@@jeremiasvasquez8892 the actress that plays Chloe is part of a sex cult and has been involved with human sex trafficking and I can't remember if she tried to recruit Lana or Lana was also a member of the same cult
One of the best parts of this whole series was John Schneider’s amazing husband & father portrayals anywhere. Topped off with the great father & son relationship between him & Clark
6:17 -- Clark: "I'm not your enemy. I never did anything to hurt you." Lex: "You didn't trust me. With everything you had, with everything you can do, did you ever think about what we could have accomplished together? I would've helped you become a hero!" That hit me harder than I expected. The idea that Clark keeping that secret from Lex, and Lex thinking Clark was the one person he could really trust, might have been the mistake that created Superman's greatest enemy. The world's smartest man and the world's most powerful hero working together: that would've been something to see.
Exactly I so wished he’d told him sooner but I get it, lex might not have been his greatest enemy and that was the point of the show. But there was never any trust in their relationship from the start so when Lex says he should have trusted him I get why Clark didn’t but I wish he had. Canonically Clark was 14 when they met so a 14 year old telling a sketchy billionaire playboy adult who experimented on “freaks” and was obsessed with him probably wouldn’t have been in the cards. But I wish he had found out sooner they could have done so much good and Clark could’ve helped Lex become a better person if he’d been honest in my opinion anyways.
@@alexislambert8039 Alotta that distrust was that Lionel had lied to Lex thruout his life and so many minions and others had lied, Lex was thinking, for good reason, that everybody lies. In the comics, there are realities where they are partners. Heck, in ones where Lex muscels his way onto the JLA, they are this, though a bit adversarial. Think Kal El just voted "no" as a prefunctory to have Lex on the defensive, but Clark was obeying that old thing about keeping friends close and enemies closer, soz you can keep an eye on them more.
"I must admit Clark....this is a big step up from the barn." - GREAT WRITING !! Excellent confrontation between Lex and Clark. Still not sure how the Witches found out about the stones in the 1,600's if Jor-El and others had only visited in the 20th Century.
Don't you remember? Kryptonians have the ability to time travel. Which still doesn't explain why they couldn't go back in time and stop their planet from being destroyed.
@@DerekThomasLirio I guess it could be resolved by the following thoughts: 1) The Kryptonians who could time-travel or had the tech to time-travel, were dead. 2) The last Kryptonian, Kal-el, did not really know that stuff until he became an adult. As Superman, he has done many things in the comics. Somewhere along the way, I am sure he had to learn some lesson about time-travelling, same as the reasons why he doesn't try to exact his own ideas of justice on *every* country but lets them do their own thing. So that's why he doesn't do any time travelling himself to fix that kind of problem. Of course, some tech still survives in Argo City and even in Fortress of Solitude, but usually only stuff that is needed to get through the current crisis or comic story arc. The idea of going back in time is usually visited by having some kind of hologram plot playing out the stories but not really as much about Kal-el himself going back in time.
years and years late lmao but iirc there was an episode that had Jor-El come to earth before Jonathan was even born or when he was just a 1yr old baby. He met Jonathan's dad and mom and that's what made him send clarke to earth. he knew the planet was safe and he would be happy.
I suppose it would have been too much for Clark to guess that something was different when he realized at age nine that he could effortlessly lift 8,000,000 tons, or casually run at Mach 4, or put his hand over a blowtorch for an hour with no pain or damage.
I dont see what Clarks problem is. If my dad told me i was a super powered alien from another planet i wud be like HELL YEAH!!! My life aint so boring after all. Thumbs up if you agree.
@@Dan-uf2vh First reaction: Oh no, that can't be true ! Dad: You come from another planet and you can fly, you are invencible ultra fast ultra strong can shoot lasers from you eyes etc etc Seccond reaction : You said lasers ??!!
Or perhaps they were a little behind on their post-shooting schedule or budget for that scene. Actually I prefer the disappearing version, but not when they blow toward Chloe's face, rather than away from it.
@@JCAH1 No that was definitely deliberate. We were seeing there for the only time (I think) what the superspeed would actually look like to a normal person. Bc that scene is thru Lana's eyes.
Honestly, Smallville was good, but it had a LOT of crappy episodes. Although I was only watching it for a superhero show, and that really wasnt what it was about, they used powers to get out of situations quickly. Plus 90% of the episodes were the writers finding ways to knock out the people Clark was with just so he could use his abilities lol. Oh and lots of shipping.
I think watch Season 1-4, then Season 9-10. First 4 seasons were really good and last 2 seasons are about adult Clark doing some stuff in Metropolis, as well as the alternate universe episodes which are kind of fun and nice. 9 - 10 also begin the story plot of Clark and Lois so you get a few nice scenes from them also.
@@pershop4950 Seasons 1 to 4 are my absolute favorites. I am now at season 6 and it just isn't the same, but I like Oliver and I like Tess, who comes later in season 8 I believe, so they make up for it.
+geekedoutturtlesfan35  Chloe, was just as whiney in the first three seasons as anyone else.  It's just that she loved Clark before anyone else and she stuck with him despite all the "Wall of Weirdness" she would eventually come to learn was attributed to Clark's arrival on Earth-- so of all of his friends, it would seem she is the most empathetic towards him and admiring, thereby the pre-mature leap to form a romantic association between them.  It's easy to attempt to translate that kind of genuine friendship into some sort of romantic connection, but with Chloe, that would be an error-- Chloe is easily swayed by her emotions and could be a HIGH vulnerability to Clark, later on as Superman, if anyone discovered that association between them.  Lois is more withstanding and resisting to the pressures of that relationship with Clark; it comes from a place of greater tenacity.  Chloe likes to retreat into her emotions anytime things get too tough on her and becomes a mental basket case-- Lois does not, hence, why Lois is perfect for Clark, Chloe is not.  Chloe would be by far a runner-up, but still far behind Lois!
+A G I disagree. ... look at how both reacted to finding out about Clark's powers. in one episode where Chloe had found out about his abilities and Clark had amnesia, she tried to help him rediscovered them....in fact after Clark did discover Chloe New.... who was there to sacrifice her own feelings and push her own feelings aside to direct him towards Lana then eventually Chloe. While Lana helped Clark discover what human love is.... Chloe proved to Clark that there is people he could eventually trust with his secret.... which would help him eventually tell Lois. to me..... that's more of a hero than anyone could ask for...
I never spoke against Chloe as a hero. Chloe was monumental in Clark's becoming a hero, eventually Superman, but she was not and is not his sole inspiration-- neither the biggest part. I'm watching the series from start to finish on DVD now and am seeing the quirks of Chloe closer now than ever before and all the reasons why she would not be the ideal mate to Clark.
+A G Well we all unfortunately know it's supposed to be Lois but if I had to choose between Chloe and Lana I'd pick Chloe. She was already prepared to deal with the different and unusual ( she did try to help the meteor infected), she was strong and not as inconsistent in what she wanted. Lana wasn't ever sure. .... which is why she bounced around after Whitney. Sure Chloe wasn't perfect but compared to Lana I seen her as a stronger character
geekedoutturtlesfan35 With that I can definitely agree! Chloe had far more strength of character than Lana; therein lied her beauty as well, despite Lana winning in the physical department, Chloe had a heart of GOLD-- riches above and beyond anything Lana could offer! If I were Clark, and the choice were between Chloe or Lana-- CHLOE wins hands down!
i don't read the comics but from what I can tell he hears everything and he learns to filter it out at an early age so his trained to ignore everything and must focus to use his senses properly, if he could hear and see everything technically wouldn't that mean he would NEVER fall for traps? it has nothing to do with writers
If Clark had just trusted LEX enough to tell him, then the whole series would have gone a completely different direction. I was rather pleased how well the writers did on making Lex a sympathetic anti-hero. Betrayed by Clark's incessant lies, it is completely understandable how he turned out the way he did.
Horkslair, OH STOP! Lex Luthor had WAY more secrets before he ever met Clark. This is not a saint we are talking about. Clark’s incessant lies?!!! No, Clark was betrayed by Lex first because he was obessed with power, corruption, meteor rocks, and look at the shady characters he always dealt with. Clark did everything to try to change Lex, to see the good side of him, but Lex just kept going to the dark side. But Clark was the one person who believed in him, and he was spying on Clark, he broke into his own fiancées office to steal his blood; like Really?!!! And you wonder why he didn’t tell him about his secret? He didn’t even tell Pete, Lois, Chloe, Jimmy, and eventually Lana. He told Pete, he eventually told Lois, but Lois figured it out. She let Clark come to her in his own time. Chloe figured it out too, then Clark told her the rest. And he told Lana in Reckoning, but she died, and he had to go back in time to save her, and his father got killed. Eventually Lana was on to Clark too about his secret, and she saw it because she trapped Chloe in that place on purpose; once she figured out his powers, then was hell bent on leaving Lex until Lionel Luthor got involved. And Lionel is no fool, he knows that Lana doesn’t love his son, I mean truly love his son. He knows she truly loves Clark, and he used that love for Clark so she could stay close to Lex. She didn’t even know about the kyronite thing until he told her that was Clark’s weakness. And then when she was in the barn, she slipped up, and said, you have a weakness. Then he figured out the rest. Lex even used brainwashing and mind-manipulation to break up Clark and Lana’s relationship?!!! Yeah some friend he turned out to be. You don’t do things like that, and then get mad when somebody doesn’t trust you.
Horkslair, Lex turned out the way he did because of Lex, not Clark. And Lionel had a hand in it too. Lionel was a terrible father to Lex, he never encouraged him, loved him, and so on. Everybody loved Clark, and everybody hated Lex Luthor. HOW DARE YOU put all that on Clark.
Don't forget near the end of the show where Lex brings back Lana, puts a meteor rock time bomb in her, only to later use her against Clark to destroy the world. Lex was twisted since child hood, when he tried to kill his baby brother. There's where your jealousy, rage, and anger comes from. Right there. I mean when your father is a wealthy man, you usually have a spoiled brat as a child. What Lex did to Lana and Clark is just unacceptable. Lex was so cunning in figuring out Clark's secret that he even used Lana in doing so. The man was so obsessed in figuring out who Clark was, that he smear lies to Clark in every scene they have. Lex plays dumb in every scene and Clark has to fall for it every time. Thee only person that knew Clark from inside and out during the whole show was Chloe. So realistically speaking, Lex made himself into a monster a long time ago. It's his own doing and nobody else's.
Sammie Vander Veen, EXACTLY! FACTS, FACTS, and FACTS! I’m so tired of hearing people blame Clark for how Lex Luthor turned out. How about blaming Lex Luthor for how Lex Luthor turned out? And the fact is Clark just didn’t know everything about Lex Luthor, but Lex Luthor wanted to know everything about Clark Kent. Clark basically had everything Lex wanted: the good parents, the loyal girlfriend, the loyal friends; everybody loved Clark Kent. Everybody TRUSTED Clark Kent. But everybody hated Lex, and Lionel Luthor. Their twisted relationship is one way Lex turned out so bad. And anybody who would kill his brother has serious issues. Lex has done messed up things to people he claims to love: Lana, Clark, his ex-wife Helen. Stealing Clark’s blood from her office?!!! Seriously?!!! Then he hires a private investigator to track her, and his meetings with his father. Only an insecure and an untrustworthy man would do something like that to his future wife. You know, if Lex had stopped obsessing over Clark’s secret, who he was, where he came from, and been an honest decent person, he might have done really good for himself. And he always went out of his way to mess up people’s life’s. It’s very sad to me.
Super super late but I jus realized what Lex said to Clark in the Fortress about the “Mild-mannered farm boy” being the perfect disguise and not needing a mask. Later in the series Clark actually doesn’t want to wear a mask, and says that “Clark Kent” will be the disguise.
I love the 2nd clip where Clark just disappears from the screen. Personally I never liked the idea that people could see a "blur" when Clark (as well as the Flash) are running. They are supposed to be so fast that the eye can't even see them. They don't leave colored trails behind them.
It's sad that the girl who played Chloe turned out to be a trafficker of women. I tried to find out more about since I'm an American writing from Taiwan. I always thought in the series Chloe and Clark should have been together
Not me. I thought Lana had better chemistry. I know the story of Superman says Lois ends up with him, but when Tom and Kristin go at it, that was better than her sex tape in some respects. I mean, all 3 women that take it from Clark had hot sex scenes, but I thought Lana's was the best.
Never understood how Clark never found the spaceship in the cellar after over 13 or however many years of living on that farm. Lol he never went in the cellar that whole time?
Man i cannot wait for the new animated show! The only thing i have in the mean time is a podcast "Somebody Save Me" just came out and now i am reliving my childhood.
should have included "pariah", when chloe sees clark catch a car. also, that one episode where the kid could see a persons future by touching them. seeing supermans cape was bad-ass and when lex is president (i think that's the same episode). but hey, that's me.
There was also the scene after Clark rescued Lex from being run over by a car (was it?). Then Lex wound up in a mental hospital and begged Clark to help him escape, he said he knew Clark could do it after he witnessed the rescue from the speeding car. I think that was early on in season 3 or 4.
Kevin Pogue there was also another episode with a kid who could touch someone and see their death, not their future. He touched Clark and just saw the Superman cape. However the Lex scene is with the elderly woman from season 1
still the best show CW has had superhero wise, and while i miss it I am glade it went off the air before CW started getting gross & creepy with the comic book shows. or turn superman into a jobber can't stand supergirl now.
The writers were so hung up on love triangles and shoving Lois down our throat that they missed out on opportunities to catapult this show to the levels it deserved. I do have to commend the dedication and maturity Tom lead Clark towards, not only was I captivated by the Smallville story but I also wanted to discover more of the Superman myth :)
I agree with the top 4, however, my favorite scene for number 1 would've been switched to the episode Reckoning from season 5, after the initial car crash that kills Lana, and Clark runs at super speed to the accident site to try and save her, not caring that Lex is there and sees him get there in a matter of seconds. Even though there was no dialogue in the scene between them, this was one of the most powerful Lex/Clark moments of the series.
Lex was the best character. He always tried doing the right thing. And really did love Lana and did the best that he could to take care of her and keep her around. I love Clark but he always belonged with Lois they have way more in common and more chemistry. Clark was always unintentionally messing with Lanas head only cuz he never trusted her
Every time I see that wine cellar/wedding day scene… I get pissed that one “line” is left out. “And Chloe, I told her, the day I proposed, I told her. And she died. I don’t know how but Lex figured out that I had come clean with her and she died. She died Chloe, and i had one chance and in reversing it, I paid for it with Dad’s life.. so you don’t know how difficult it is, giving her up.” I soooo wanted him to say something like that.
The Jonathan in this show was the perfect way to portray a father worried about his superpowered son without making him overly protective and callous like Snyder's Man of Steel did. This Jonathan was able to understand that his son had to find his own way in the world, and allowed Clark to do what he was destined for instead of constantly holding him back.
What the hell are you talking about. Snyder Jon was far more noble & realistic. I think you just like Smallville's Jon. In reality he was a terrible & weak father. Using Clark to keep his indebt family farm. Hahahaha
There's quite a lot of stuff he didnt die in, but he wasnt the reason the show "went down" imo. The universe building took priority over the story, thats when it started to go down hill, but at the same time it was the first real occasion where you saw the show as a superhero show. It's a shame he never became Superman, he did everything Superman did, fought all of his villains, formed a Justice League etc, everything apart from fly and wear the suit.
did anyone notice the spoiler for Zod? The last clip with Lex and Clark, when Clark tells Lex no one is controlling him ,they zoom out and in the crystals a small Z appears... I never noticed it..
I stumbled onto this by looking through my recommended videos. Ironically enough I have the the complete series boxset and I'm on the Cyborg episode of season 5 right now.
If anyone remembers the episode where Jeremiah, the graduate student for the Kiwatche leader dude, gets powers from the dagger, you'll notice the connection between the last scene of that episode and the last moment in this video. Lex talks about how Naman may likely be the villain in the story where as Sigeeth is the true hero.
+CHASEMARC YES!! It is not that I hate Lois, but Chloe and Clark's relationship was the deepest in the show. In fact the producers said that she was to fill the Lois void until Lois could be brought into the show. So in my mind Chloe is Lois. I hated that they denied their chemistry because they were afraid of possibly upsetting comic book fans.
+CHASEMARC originally they had intended to kill lois off at the season 5 finale making chloe the honorary lois lane which wouldve been much better but they decided against it and the comic book fans who wouldve been upset by chloe ending up with clark are instead upset that chloe ended up with oliver queen in a show that has the black canary present
You're looking for the episode called Asylum. I found a clip that ends right before he says that line and that's it. RU-vid does have the episode for sale for $2 though.
