Loved the J2k, its sweet spot is massive and swing weight makes it perfect, resets are amazing. Sometimes it felt too soft for pops on put aways, but im also learning and my form isnt great. The plush ess made adapting to putaways and drives and took alot of practice to control the power shots right. Got the j7k pro and i really liked the extra power, serves and drives felt more comfortable when I felt like I struggled with controlling them on the j2k but there was a big adjustment to avoid pop ups. Let the J7K paddle do the work for you. My wife now uses the j2k and loves it. Great rankings.

Great review for those not seeking to spend a pretty penny for a paddle unnecessarily. I have the J2k and totally enjoy its all around versatility especially its control with drops and resets. I've demoed the Hudef Gen 3 and its a power paddle for sure but unfortunately it is a much higher swingweight paddle that fatigued my arm after playing it for a few games.

I am enjoying the Apollo. I have to say that it has a lot more pop than I expected. This has been a bit of a drawback because it doesn't really benefit from the plush feel from Kevlar. I'm adjusting but was hoping for more control. What I love about it is the spin, the hand speed, and the giant sweet spot. As I get used to it, I'm enjoying that pop for speed ups and counters. My serves have improved most with this paddle so far. The dinking is the only area I'm still struggling with vs. my old paddle.

After a ton of “spin” on my decision making, I went with Viva G 3. Only because of your video. Dang nice seeing that price drop with your code. I bought it. U should mention this… P ball is beyond cheaper than golf. I can go to a public court and play top players. Friends spend a ton on golf. One racket is close to a day on the course plus lost balls. Anyway, I started last year. My first real paddle is the Franklin STK 17 mm. I still love this paddle. With 200 hour range of playing, it feels like it got even harder w the hits. Paid $40 at sierra (marshals). I got V G 3 just for the curiosity and love of the game. So, super excited to try this out. Yes, I was going to do the J2 but once I found out a few things on the logo and words on the paddle, I changed my mind.

If price wasn't a consideration I would tie the Ruby with the J2K and move the Azul up to number 3 in place of the Viva Pro Gen 3 as I feel the Azul is a more premium power oriented experience. Main reason the Ruby isn't on here is because the J2K plays so similar to the Ruby and has relative spin / power / pop but just for a far better price. But overall they play extremely similar in practice.

I’m a J2K user. I can hit drips, drops with zero problem. But coupled with the natural power I have, I can really plow through a drive and hit absolute missiles with it. Based on performance and price, Honolulu Pickleball Company struck gold with the J2K in my opinion. Also best customer support of any company I’ve ever bought from. Refreshing when a company has a superior product and you can tell they “just get it” as a whole.

I have a beautiful blue J2K based on your recommendation, but I keep going back to my BALLR Heat which was also a purchase I made after you raved about it. My question is about break in with the Kevlar paddles. So far, the J2K is definitely a more rigid paddle then the Heat. In general, are you finding Kevlar faced paddles need a longer break in period before you really start to see the playing characteristics to stand out?
@stspickleball
@stspickleball 16 дней назад
Mmm I wouldn't say so no but they will definitely break in just like carbon fiber a bit. I think what it feels like stock is pretty consistent to what it will feel like generally just like carbon fiber :)

@stspickleball
@stspickleball 22 дня назад
Honestly everything from Honolulu Pickleball is just top tier. J7K will have more power and is elongated, I pull that one out often. New J3K is going to be quicker in the hands, larger sweet spot, and have a bit more control to it. All top tier paddles from a top tier company. Can’t go wrong.

I ordered a J2K, but returned without trying it because the handle was too short. I know it's listed at 5.5", but it measured less than that and it felt really short. Not as poppy. Much more manageable when comparing to those kinds of paddles. When comparing to those paddles I’d put the J7K in the ball court category leaning towards power. Whereas Joola Gen 3 and TKO-CX are top in the power game right now.

Awesome review, STS! Regarding the 100% Kevlar faced paddles, have you noticed that they tend to collect more debris from the ball quicker than carbon fiber faced paddles? My CRBN 1 16mm paddle that I used for months without using a paddle eraser looked cleaner than a couple of my 100% aramid fiber (Kevlar) faced paddles looked that I only have a few hours of playing time each on. I hope it's ok to use the paddle erasers that were originally made for carbon fiber on the Kevlar paddles as well. I know that Kevlar is very durable, so I'm thinking the paddle erasers wouldn't damage them.
@stspickleball
@stspickleball 22 дня назад
Honestly a lot of that comes down to more advanced peel ply these days resulting in a more texturized surface which picks up ball dust when struck. The material won't matter as much as the grit / peel ply method utilized. I use a paddle eraser too I just do it very gently on the kevlar in comparison to carbon fiber. You should be good to go!
@RC-tm8jo

Do you find the J3K to be much different than the J2K?

It's a pretty firm wide body I would say they are similar it just has a better sweet spot.

So you used to be Ruby all the way, can you describe why you retired it, what was it it lacked comparatively?
@stspickleball
@stspickleball 20 дней назад
Honestly I just used it so much it wore down. After trying out the J2K it’s the same experience if not better for a much better price. So I didn’t purchase a new Ruby. The Ruby is basically as good as the J2K don’t get me wrong but you can save a bunch of money and just get a J2K.

Surprised the Hurache x Kevlar 14 or 16 isn’t on here. Especially the 14. It’s unlike any other 14 I’ve played before. Very controllable.
@stspickleball

It's a solid paddle but nothing really wowed me about it. Same with the original Hurache. Just below top tier spin and just good. Nothing great.

I own Azul and x14 and would say the Azul is certainly better in all facets

@@jimenglebrecht1579 there also different paddles lol. Azul is marketed as a “power” Kevlar paddle. k14 isn’t. And no 14 is a power paddle. It’s pop with control. But whatever. They really are all so similar anyway. High level players can play with just about anything. Lol

Why pros have not been using Kevlar paddles?
@kimjaesung5938
@kimjaesung5938 23 дня назад
Because big companies like Joola, Selkirk, Paddletek, and Engage never made Kevlar for their contracted pros.

Because pros are sponsored and play with whatever they are comfortable with not what is the objectively better paddle. If you’re sponsored by Selkirk you have to play with a Selkirk paddle. If Selkirk chooses not to make a Kevlar paddle in their line up then you won’t see any pros playing with it. Now an even more important question is why aren’t more major companies innovating new paddles if they really cared about giving player the best experience like they say they do? Selkirk makes a gen 1 paddle and markets it like something new in 2024. Joola makes a trampoline paddle and their number 1 player didn’t even use it. So they painted his old one to look like the new ones 😂 these major companies don’t care about us they just want to make money by all means. The sooner you realize this the sooner you’ll come to appreciate smaller brands.

@stspickleball 20 дней назад
The Ruby is top tier don’t get me wrong. But when you can get a paddle that’s as good if not slightly better than the Ruby at a much better price (J2K) I’d rather showcase that paddle and save you money. I didn’t get a new Ruby after mine wore out because I love my J2K so much and it’s lasted longer.

Why J2k vs J2k Pro??
@stspickleball
@stspickleball 21 день назад
If you can hang with the rigidity and the insane power of the J2K pro then it's top tier for sure, but for most people I think the J2K is a much better fit :)

No honestly it just takes the place of the Ruby for the price. Don't worry the Ruby is a really great paddle and worthy of top 3 if the price was lower. Plays VERY similar to the J2K
