@@MichaelJohnson-dt5zr That's why he's targeting women; because, he knows most fisherman know how to make a rig from household material. He's just assuming women aren't into DIY; which is incredibly sexist and a terrible way to appeal to your target market. Really, he could have talked about the quality of the product, the reflectors, the ease of use, and the durability, and how it could appeal to the avid pro or beginner looking to improve their fishing experience.
I feel like the fish guy just panicked and tried to say something about his product but all he could think of was that 12% fun fact he read on the back of a wrapper.
Honestly the lady in the blue dress got offended and just let her emotions talk, its apparent she doesnt understand most momen dont care about fishing but if you make it easier then it may entice em
ie. "Men know that a bucket on a string, or similar items you can get either around your house or cheaper than his product, will suffice, but he can get women, who know less about fishing, (in his admitted opinion) to buy a gimmicky thingamumbob for burleying up." It's like the Big Bang scene with Wolowitz wearing an insane amount of gimmicky bullshit to go fishing with Bernadette's dad. That store saw him coming a mile away.
On Top Gear they showed some early 1900s car ads, with a special Ford model after the T that was specifically made for women, because "it's easier to start and breaks down less." Because of course men don't want a car that's easy to start & more reliable.
Long eye lashes are so important to success and happiness in life. Seriously, if a girl doesn't look like she has a daddy long legs on her eye, I know she isn't gonna be successful.
I respect these people for putting themselves out there and trying and taking a risk.... but dammnnnn they come in so overwhelmingly under prepared its astounding
I think when they look through submissions they look for some good ones, and then instead of choosing sorta crappy ones they choose the ones that’ll be entertaining.
The interesting part about this video is how I look at some of the comments down here and think "That's really sexist" but as I watched the vid I got the context and I'm like... "I may have misjudged someone"
The guy has the same surname as me, he's an immigrant from South Africa. He probably moved when the racist Apartheid government went down. There are many South Africans like him who still have an outdated world view
Yeah, I only just got into this show for the first time, but so far the cringiest thing I've noticed is people trying to force out obviously-rehearsed nonsensical hype like that, ESPECIALLY when it's clearly purposefully vague. I wouldn't trust or want to work with anyone who tries to come out the gate sprinkling glitter in everyone's eyes instead of talking business. Practically all of these were guilty of it at some point. Like the "risk-free" bs. This ain't a commercial, idk why people are saying these dumb abstract claims instead of specifics ... Do they think the sharks are gonna be as easy to romance as average shopping-channel customers? Sheesh XD
@@jasoncross7819 your comment is so under-appreciated 🤣 I have been searching the comments for someone to mention this dudes infomercial vibe he's got going there.
I cringed a few minutes after when he said that he spent $800k to secure worldwide patents... for the past nearly 10 years. And yet he hasn't sold a single one of them.
“It will win the Tour de France” “You can’t enter that in the Tour de France” “There’s some problems I need to work around” How do you work around the rules of one of the most well known sporting events in the world
I love how immediately when asked to clarify he just insults the women by saying men know everything about fishing. Insulting half of your potential investors because of their gender is a bold ass move.
I think what he was trying to say is the men think they have everything figured out and trying to say men think they know it all but this is something new and a game changer but he worded it terribly.
The first one he talks about how it's hard for people to blow dry and brush their hair simultaneously. Yet he didn't create a blow dryer and a brush. He created a blow dryer and a straightener...
I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. The brush is used in assisting the blow-dry process. The brush is just a tool in the blow drying process. A tool that you wouldn't really need with his product... the design of his product is intended to replace the need of using a brush.
@@louloulouthoughts Not enough. 😂 I'm just saying this original comment doesn't make all that much sense. It's like if I created a swiffer because a mop and bucket is too inconvenient. Then somebody said "so you created a mop and a broom? What about the BUCKET?!" I have a feeling this person really thought using a brush and blow dryer together was a way to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. 😂 As if someone said "why brush your hair and dry it in 2 separate steps when you could it together" and came up with that method.
The first guys idea is great if it works but the pitch was that it makes it easy to do it yourself....why in the demonstration was he doing her hair!..?
All he had to say is it helps attract fish and those that are less skilled may find fishing more enjoyable with this product attracting more fish to the area.
Actually, he should just have added that it is situated near the hook - the place you need to attract fish to - I think it is a bit of a gimmick but can work? I am not sure if it is worth millions and can be easily copied. Hopefully we are just seeing the sharks being sanctimonious prats for television ratings and they are not just crushing ideas without providing some useful guidance to these product designers, product designers are not always the best marketeers for there own products or necessary have good business acumen, that's what the sharks should be for ? - real crappy television show.
@@bvdnolimit2007 The thing is, I'm fairly sure that thing already exists. My mom has this hairdryer that is also like a comb which you can easily use to straighten your hair... And this is Brazil, tech takes a while to get here. (I could also be wrong, I know fuck all about hair stuff)
The first guy was just sad. If he was on the US shark tank then he would have been insulted soooo bad that he probably would have curled up on the floor and cried
I love that the Australian investors are concerned about the business employees take home pay as part of their consideration. American investors should do that as well.
Working in tech, I'd have to say I love working with Aussies or New Zealanders more than most other cultures. They're so chill, but always seem to care more about people rather than being cold business. I['ve legit had to tell them they have a massive issue on their hands and have gone to bat for stuff that they're just trying to be nonchalant about.
but what if you could.. Just use your IMAGINATION ! What it you enter Tour de France with the bike, what if it wins, what if you start selling millions of them worldwide, what if you make billions !!??
@@lmfaoisawesome616 no its a terrible idea, i can make that same basic thing at home for 3 dollars and 15 minutes, not that i would ever chum because I actually have skill as a fisherman. Plus the guy was an absolute moron trying to play on women to buy a terribly made product? "9-12% of fisherwomen want the edge!" ?????? wat
Pvc pipe with caps and a hook screw, drill holes, and you have a more durable and customizable poduct then the chum salesman. The most efficient way to get fish, is either using a simple hand grenade, or rob a fishery.
@@MW2bklyn you can make your own lead sinkers at home. You can make your own ROD at home. You can make almost everything you need to catch a fish at home. Women desperately need that edge to compensate for the handicap of having breasts, which scare the fish away u see, but with my product they can finally fish almost as well as men do. It helps build their confidence so they don’t struggle so much and embarrass their husbands while they are doing real fishing.
When the hairdryer guy tried redirecting the conversation from not knowing numbers to talking about the blow dryer can be used by itself lmao the immediate awkward silence was hilarious!!
I love how Glen is the richest shark on this show by a long shot, yet he's normally the most polite and the most willing to try and see the silver lining in someone's business.
I like how he attempts to distract them from all the awful problems with his pitch and business "But look.. a hair dryer vroooom... how fun is it when you use it like this!" It's like a kids toy commercial.
I love how, after offering 20% in the Australian market for 1mill, he thinks that the deal breaker is: "BUT would you like to see it work on wet hair???"
I will forever remember, when the days get tough, “there are 12% of women fisherman who want the edge” what the hell is that supposed to mean and what does it have to do with anything about your presentation?
here to update: ive looked into him, he is still paying for the patent. He got it in 2005 and renewed it in 2015, he just had the expiration date adjusted to 2028. Not to mention, the thing isnt even for sale. You have to preorder it, and the website has been up for 3 years.
The bicycle one sounded interesting. Until he mentioned the price of the cycle itself. As a consumer I can say that he is insane for thinking anyone would spend that much on a bike that you still have to pedal. I'd pay that much for an electric bike MAYBE. If the battery life was long and took you far enough on a charge and such. But wow.. insane.
I thought his idea was ridiculous but high quality bikes are very expensive, spending $10k+ is pretty normal. I just spent $6,000 on an ok mountain bike and am not even that good.
What he's done there is mechanically sound. He's basically extended the pedals to use leverage and some gearing to multiply the rider's effort. Fine. But his financial claims are outlandish in the extreme.
As a French, I was like: Dude, why so offendeded? They have to take PED to achieve good scores in le tour de France, do you think a bike even harder to ride will do it for them ? XD
I feel the lash tech guy would do great in America cause Rn it’s the most common thing to get you lashes done every two weeks he just needed to get more organized with his numbers
I agree lashes are big, & ppl get them done/maintained regularly, but do we really need an app to have a lash tech come to our homes? Most ppl I know get their lashes, nails & pedicures done at the same time. Plus only a 25,000/yr profit for the entire franchise. My son just finished high-school & makes more than that.
Yeah, those numbers are awful. The business itself isn't an awful concept, but his numbers are... bad. 24k take home in LA is monstrously below poverty.
@Fact Speech Is Not Hate Speech some of us do. Im an Indigenous American so I kinda have to appreciate this place by default though, so Im probably the exception to the rule🤣🤣 As an American who lives in a capitalist society, that guy is forgetting about competition...TONS of competition. I know lash specialists that make $60 to $80k a year, so he would never in a million years sell those numbers to someone here looking to get into the trade. They would never work for him for $25k a year (which is pretty much considered to be poverty level for anyone with a child here) knowing they could make 3 times the income doing the same job without a middle man. This is a service economy. In this environment, knowing people and who you’re marketing too is important. A personal touch is important to surviving in this service based economy where everyone knows everyone. This guy is an outsider trying to break in. He would HAVE to hang his hat his relationship with the celebrities. BTW, you have the absolute best username in recent memory!!!
The fish lure was an interesting product, but the guy behind it really messed his pitch up… I’m a woman who enjoys fishing, and I’ve never heard about any of what that guy said regarding “fishing social norms”. 😓 Fishing in general is a solo/two-person thing, so I know most people (usually guys but women too) who like it aren’t the best with people.
- “How much do you sell them for?” - “$2,600.” - “How much does it cost to make them?” - “About the same.” How was the business ever going to have any revenue at all
@@samueldownie2187 you're misusing terms , the revenue is 2,600 usd. No profit though . This business is still good because in order to manufacture the products or materials they need to employee a series of people operating on a market of scale which in turn contributes to economic flow of goods and services.
That guy seemed so delusional that I’m a bit surprised he didn’t try to claim that equals a 100% profit margin. On the grounds that 2700 dollars is 100% of 2700 dollars.
I felt bad for the generator guy. He was simply intimidated - he's probably the life of the party normally and a great salesman in the shop. He was just SO nervous because of who he was standing in front of. He seemed like a salt of the Earth guy to me, genuine, and I hope he really continues to grow and do well. Good product too.

THAT PART MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD like I rly thought he was gonna have a rebuttal and instead he just said that as if his last two brain cells had left 😩😂
As an avid fisherman #2's product is really not that bad, it looks like you can rig it to a pole with a float and sinker and cast or troll it away from the boat putting it exactly where you want it depth and distance wise. I would definitely give it it try if I saw it for 5 bucks in a bait shop.

The bike guy is an engineer who doesnt understand how numbers actually translate into the real world. If he had gone in there with a level headed pitch and conservative valuation he may have been able to make a deal.
It was a scam. He was most likely going to pocket the investment and get a grant from the government to pay the investors back. In the end he gets 5mil without doing anything or selling anything.
The first clip with hair straightener/blower combo. Something tells me his wife is gonna leave him for wasting 800k and not recouping it. And that's even if that was his actual wife and not some high priced escort he hired and claimed was his wife

Bike guy was so confident it the bike would be winning races even though it seems totally obvious that you cant just show up to a race with any wacky bike design you want? If the equipment wasnt standardized then it really wouldnt be a fair competition.
The linear pedal motion is honestly not a bad concept, but I see all of those extra components, and I just think about mud and rain... That's without even getting to the insane valuation and promises of astronomical returns that scream "Ponzi scheme."
His plan was to take that 5 mil, put that in a bank and get a government loan for a 1:1 match, so then the investor gets their money back ... it's 100% a ponzi scheme.
Why are the dudes so clueless about how women think. Lmao the one dude is straight up like "we want women to make more so they have things to do besides entertaining their husband " lol
The generator guy is right about the demand in the US. Stores cannot keep them in stock in Houston. These people who have inventions/products are not particularly sharp business people, not everyone has business acronym like The Sharks. I think most of the Sharks were kind to these people regardless. I think they would of been much shrewder on the American version.

To be fair, when the first guy said between $25-35, what I think he meant was his raw cost from his OEM partner overseas. When he said "landed in Australia for $45-50", that's his price after shipping+taxes+tarrifs and getting it through customs. If that is the case, he should have either stated $45-50 from the beginning or broken down the pricing for them.

People who don’t fish often may not know this, but the fact is that fisherwomen are, unfortunately, at a major disadvantage to fishermen, due to their natural lack of fishing knowledge, obviously, but also their lack of skill. Because of this huge, unfair disadvantage, female fisherpeople have always dreamed of finding themselves an edge, in hopes that someday the playing field may be leveled, once and for all, and, finally, they may have the ability to compete with the men, who are superior to them in talent and intelligence. I don’t know if this is the right product to give them that edge or not, but I truly hope that they will soon find whatever it is that they need, because women deserve a fair opportunity, and equality and stuff.
