I find a lot of weird hosta sports at big box stores. 💖🌱 It's given me an irreplaceable collection. 💖🌾 Also antique varieties no longer found, from neighborhood giveaways. 💖🍀 And fragrant hostas should be more widely sold; their flowers smell like heaven. 💖🌿
SLUG CONTROL: Saucers of beer at the base of the hosta. Copper strips to electrocute the slugs. Diatomaceous earth, or ground outsert shells, and thing shark will tear the undersides if the slugs and kill them.
🌱 "Fragrant Hostas" sometimes found at Lowe's or Home Depot, smell like heaven. 🍀 You have to read the label on the pot. 🌿 All other hostas don't really have a perfume.

Hi Lola, you can hand pick them off and drop them into soapy water to kill. Some like to put wet newspaper down over the soil beneath the plants being affected and pick up the papers and see where the slugs congregate and remove them. There are also chemicals and baits that can also help if so desired. It will depend on how many and how much damage there is but persistence in your quest is required. ;-)
Nature Hills Nursery Hi thank you for replying..Can I put slug pellets on top of the soil..or will it damage my beautiful Hostas ? I look underneath and round the rims of the pots every day..and there’s one or two tiny slugs..which I heard are the most likely culprits, rather than the bigger ones.
Many of the newer Hosta varieties are slug resistant so look for those. We recommend following all directions carefully. Just be sure to use the treatments that are labeled for use on hosta plants and follow directions.
Nature Hills Nursery okay, will do..All my Hosta’s are in large Pots..as I only have a small garden here in Liverpool 🇬🇧 I haven’t any more room to buy more..So can I lay a few pellets on top of the soil ?
