Cars, Costs and Technology I will never drive a corvette because my friend died in a 2016 stingray because of poor traction control rip #tj he died 18 years old rented a corvette for prom and died that same night 💔
Cars, Costs and Technology It would be hard to do but I likely wouldn't drive it a lot in the winter. I'd probably take it out to get it up to temp but only short drives near my house. It would rarely see salt, if ever. If it were summer I'd daily drive the hell out of one. I swear I would teabag a set mousetrap if it meant I could own one, especially the ZR1. The Grand Sport is more my style though. This is coming from a Ford(mostly) guy.
@@justincarrillo12626 Actually if you spend time in Europe you find the Corvette these days are considered special, along with Harley's and American Bourbon.

Justin Carrillo No american cars are seen in europe as exotics, i drive a corvette c3 and i get a lot of thumbs up and people on the sidewalk are making photos lol
I kept my vette parked in the garage but almost died of pneumonia. I realized tomorrow is not promised you. I sold my second car and enjoy my corvette everyday. I still feel the thrill everytime I start up that LS3. I live in sunny Southern California.
C6 daily here - I love driving mine to work and back every day too. I explained it to someone like this: Driving home used to be the end of my work day. Now it's what I do when I get off work.
How nostalgic, I remember watching this video back then and wondering how it would feel to drive one, well update update I now own a 2015 c7 z51🤙🏼 dreams come true
I have a 2016 black stingray convertible, LOVE IT, and its my everyday car. I'm a great grandmother, and my thinking is, what the heck am I saving it for!! I have 2 Vetts, one in Fla and one in NJ. Never sees snow, and not much rain, both garaged. But to your points: Rides like a dream, no rough at all. Shoppinh, get creative, on a Costco run, just strap those 24 rolls of toilet paper in the passenger seat, and buckle up baby! Not crazy about not having a gas cap, but "deal with it"!! Geezz!! No CD player, but Best Buy has a small portable one that plugs into AUX, sits in cup holder if you remove spacer. All in, under $30. A bit nervous about NOT having a spare tires, so get roadside assistance coverage and have it towed, not a big deal. We all have cell phones, and Sirius call for help button. Get a grip folks, ifz not the end of the world. In my humble opinion, its the best "fill in the blank" car I've ever driven. I love it, other Vett ownerz always gjve you tbe secret handshake, so much fun. From a Motown girl, and GM family, also a military family, NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING smacks of Made in tbe USA like a Corvette, especially red ones. Start your engines, give it a rev, what else is there to say!! Nonna
I drive my C6 every day. I have had brand new C4's and C5's and a new C6. I let them sit in the garage and go wow. I have a new corvette. To heck with that. We are not promised tomorrow, and I learned that the hard way when I became ill and couldn't afford such cars anymore. I could of enjoyed those cars, but I was scared something would happen to them. I never put over 3, 000 Miles on any of them. Now, this 09 C6 gets the heck driven out of it. I thank the good Lord I am able to own another one. Use your vehicles people. These Vettes were made to enjoy. (And tick Mustang driver's off. Let em go. The cops will get em, trust me. See it daily)
I don't fear snow...It's the salt. I got winter tires on my Z06 to help it drive in the cold, and grip in the snow, but the next day when they throw salt down, she's staying at home. Especially with all the undertray's we have with the tiny gaps, salt can sneak up, and then get stuck and rust it from inside out, even underbody washes can't save you from that. I'm considering unbolting them for winter, so I can spray the underbody easier.
My friend had a 2015 Stingray Z51 purchased in April of 2015 and put almost 30k miles on it before he passed away in January 2017. He pretty much daily drove it (in Colorado), and took a few road trips and averaged right around 29 MPG, with no breakdowns or failures.
Sorry to hear that you lost your friend. It sounds like he really enjoyed his Corvette and I'm sure he never regretted driving it so often 👍 Thank you for sharing this.
I have a 2011 C6 Grand Sport that I drive daily unless it's leg day at the gym. Made that mistake once and learned real quick that it's a bad idea with a clutch.
Living in Orange County Southern California where Ferrari, Porsche, Lambos are fairly common, seldom any of that class of cars. Get a fair number of Subbies, Mustangs, Chargers and occasionally Tesla's.
I had a '65 convertible as my daily driver when I was in the military from 1972 through 1976. Driving from Illinois to Pennsylvania and back every weekend, I learned a lot about that car. While I felt every crack in the road, the 565 mile one way trip left me feeling just fine at the end of it. When I eventually had a Ford Galaxy, it was more "comfortable" to sit in and go 5 miles, but after the aforementioned 565 mile trip I was physically exhausted. Then, the parts availability is another good point. I once had a fuel pump fail in Indiana and all I had to do was go to a normal parts store and get one. Had I been driving a contemporary Jaguar, Mercedes, Lotus or Porsche, I might still be waiting for the part. Damn, I wish I had that car back now.
I daily a c7 stingray. Drive about 25k a year in a year in it. It’s so easy to daily. Comfy, decent gas mileage, and maintenance is pretty acceptable. Tires are pricey but other than that it’s an easy car to daily.
I have driven all my corvettes as daily driver since 2001. The only time I don't drive them is when salt is put down on the road. These are built to be driven not sit in a garage and be look at. I gave my son a 99 with about 140k on it and it now has 175k and still going strong. Right now I have 3 vettes (including my son's) and I drive them as much as I can rain or shine, after all they are cars.
onelegorg I have had a corvette as a daily driver since 1979. I feel so lucky! My daily driver now is a 2015 base 1 LT 7 spd... Fiberglass runs in my veins....
great video man! I haven't had my z06 long enough, nor do I daily drive it, but I think I could definitely daily it :D some great info for anyone with looking to explore the option. Keep up the great work
I got a c63s that car started misfiring on the way home when i picked up from the dealer lol. Its been 9 months now and the car was at the dealer fixing issues for 3 months all together
Totally agree about foreign cars and their “prestige”. Personally, I prefer good old American muscle. Parts aren’t as proprietary or expensive as say on a Mercedes for example. Interior is also usually more spacious on American vehicles versus foreign cars. To be quite honest, I think when I see a Corvette, Hellcat, Shelby GT350, or ZL1 I feel more excited than when I see an AMG Benz, M series Bimmer, or Audi S Series.
I have extensive experience teaching performance driving in both Ferrari's and Lambo's and certainly I wouldn't mind having either but even though I could, I wouldn't buy one, I much prefer my Corvette. Now I am biassed as I have won SCCA autocross championships with the car, which was built out by Dick Gulstrand. I will say that there is not beating the sound of a Ferrari at full song. I have a manual transmission, the Corvette paddle shifters are horrid.
Totally agree, there has never been a Mercedes ,BMW or Audi that has ever turned my head and i went WOW LOOK! However, when i saw my first 2019 ZR-1 on the road i was yelling the whole time lol.
I drove my corvettes 7 to 8 months a year in Michigan and tried not to drive in rainy weather. I liked to keep it nice, while still driving it. Not sure why people buy corvettes and barely use them.
I'm in SC too (though you must be upstate if you got snow!) and I daily drive a C7 Z06, so I'm right there with you. I get the lack of space remark all the time. So much in fact, that after making a particularly heavy Costco run, I took a pic and I show it to people and that shuts them up. Thanks for making this video!
I drove my C6 (2013) in Southern California and drove it as a daily driver for 5 years. It was never a problem for me. Since we only get the occasional rain storm, it was never a problem.
I’m daily driving a 1987, great car, great visibility. Ever get some idiot try to stop you from being able to change lanes or get on the highway? Doesn’t matter to something that accelerates or decelerates as fast as any Corvette. It’s also pretty good on gas when you drive it slowly (or even if you just keep up with traffic, which is not fast for the vette, but everyone else is flooring it) Problems with my car would be ride height, noise level (not really the exhaust, but the wind is really loud on this car) and the occasional 30+ year old car issue, old wires, old vacuum lines and such.
Great video. 👍 I needed the back seat with a kiddo to haul around, so I bought the SS sedan... LS3 and a Tremec 6-speed manual in a decent chassis with some Corvette tricks like the magnetorheological dampers. Mine gets daily driven except in active snow. I have a Silverado farm truck for those duties. But yeah, if you’re worried about keeping the car in nice shape, go for the full paint protection film treatment. My whole car is wrapped in Xpel, and 3M and a couple others also make great products for that. It’s pricey to do the whole car, but when you’ve got $50k tied up in a car, it brings great peace of mind. It’s a relief every time I hear gravel ping off the bodywork to know the paint is protected and all I have to do is give the car a bath and it’s immaculately shiny again. Winter driving: lots of RWD European cars get DD’d in winter and do just fine. BMWs and Mercs were almost exclusively RWD for decades, and people all over Northern Europe drove those in winter conditions just fine. Driver training and proper tires are really all that’s needed. People are so poorly trained nowadays and very few pursue additional training beyond the pathetically minimal state licensing requirements. Hence people now seem to think they need AWD and an automatic to get through winter. BS. I drove a stick-shift, 2WD Golf GTI VR6 on all-season tires through Iowa winters. Never had a problem. Saw more people in 4x4 SUVs sideways in the ditch or median than any other kind of car. The SS gets driven in winter just fine by many owners on the forum... proper rubber and sensible driving tactics are all it takes. RWD is not some dealbreaker in winter, despite what many seem to think. If you really don’t have the skill, go find a local performance driving school and/or seek out a car control and inclement weather driving course. Best $200 you will ever spend. Before balking at the price, realize that’s less than the cost of TWO winter tires, not even a full set. And the driving course will help you in EVERY car you climb into. But yeah, great practical approach to DDing a sports car. It IS doable! Glad to see you out enjoying a fun car. Sounds like budget was a consideration here, so this is even more applicable to the guys thinking they can’t afford multiple cars. Keep up the good work.
We have a 2001 Z06, since new, has 150+k on the clock, and had been driven in all conditions. Remember the body is plastic (dose not rust), if driven regularly the the under side stays cleaner then you would think, even after three season at Bonneville on the salt there is no ill effect (yes driving 500 miles home through Thunder storms will clean out most of the salt) About the only thing that showsdamage is trailing inside of the fender openings (we have an unusually large amount of road sand/gravel), still after 17 years and 150k its expected.
Good video, I have a 2019 stingray but I do have a second car and usually only drive my Vette twice a week. I believe it is a good vehicle for everyday driving. I live in Arizona so I don't have the snow to worry about and I never drive my Vette in the rain. If the red Vette in your video is yours then did that blade spoiler come stock on your car? I just ordered the high wing spoiler for mine as mine had no type of spoiler on it.
You should do a comparison with a new 911 because Porsche is one of the most reliable brands out there. Granted, the parts will be more expensive, but the cars are very well made.
@@stantorren4400 Never understood that...Just because it takes me to 50 to afford one due to raising kids and college, doesn't mean I'm having a mid-life anything.
*thousands And yes, I can't fathom that. It's always funny seeing near mint condition Corvettes STILL depreciate. Like damn, you lost value, AND you lost out on the opportunity to enjoy it. Some people are just weird I guess. They love garage queening :\
DJT2020 : I'd encourage you to check what the fuel economy specs are, try 30+ MPG. This is due to how slippery the aerodynamics are and lighter wieght that the V8 doesn't have to work too hard to move down the road.
I Daily drive a 2006 C6. +it feels good to drive all the time +comfortable +decent gas mileage +roof pops off in nice weather -center console gets very hot -people have no patients for you on the road (get mad when you aren't driving like a grandmother) All in all, decent car but only other vette drivers will like your car.
Not 100% accurate for my 454 swapped 77 😂 could have better tires for rain, not much room behind the seats, 6mpg city 18mpg hwy, big block's reliable but 6 u-joints and mostly 40yo parts can be a pain in the ass, and have mono leaf suspension so it rides like a shopping cart but the seat's comfy
I plan a corvette to be my daily driver for my next car, so I thank all the guys who buy it and sell it 4 years used with less than 20k miles on it making it half the price for me more or less 👍
Dude, thank you so much for your content. This along with your other videos about the pricing, trims, performance packages, have been SO helpful to me as I’m doing my research to see if I can make the c7 happen! Keep up the great work.
I got a nice clean used 2016 C7 a week ago now. Drove it to work everyday and was great. I did a C5 as well for over 8 years. Glad to be back in a vette. Holycow do it, you will not regret it one bit. Only thing i am worried about is low water areas. Getting home from work is quite a few spots for me. But i imagine it would be ok in less then a few inches. I might get a truck sooner or later.
I've been looking at a C6 Grand Sport and wanted to know if anyone here has had any issues with them if driven daily? Plus, I live in the Chicago area where winter is a pain to go through.
If you are worried about salt just put some corrosion protection on your car especially on such an expensive one as the Corvette. I live in Germany where in the area i live in we can have snow that lasts a few days or just slush where they use a lot of salt and i had my Mustang treated with Mike Sanders because i daily drive it.
Enforcer1975 - I had my GMC truck fully under coated in 2012, the frame and box is showing heavy rust as of last year. That salt gets everywhere and starts rotting GM metal immediately.
Wow then the metal must be really bad. My car has a fingernail size spot of corrosion on the edge of the hood but that's it. The importer where i had my car maintained just last month said it was in very good condition despite being 8yo now and me getting the protection done when i got it when it was 3yo. Was lucky the previous owners used it in summer only. I was also lucky the last winters, i can count on one hand how often salt was used in those 5 years and i gave the car a full wash and wax after that every time.
Enforcer1975 - well my mom says if you don’t have anything good to say, then don’t say nothing. GM’s metal quality is ...... I also have a 2009 Toyota Rav 4, it never gets washed, no undercoating, same conditions, Zero, and I mean ZERO rust. Hmmmm
Rusty Zipper Toyota has always been notorious for having the worst metal. Especially on their older vehicles. I can remember for the longest time seeing Toyota trucks with missing beds due to rot.
@@RustyZipper did you use regular undercoating or something like Liquid Film? If the coating trapped moisture underneath it, the treatment may have been worse than leaving it alone.
I put my C5 in the garage too & just drive my truck. But i've actually had to replace my exhaust system 3 times on my 2002 F-150 in the last 16 yrs becuz of road salt. Nasty stuff.
If it wasn't for the insurance, I would have a 2004 C5 with a T56 as a seasonal driver. Was about to pull the trigger on one (so to speak), but no fault under 25 insurance is stupidly expensive. Thanks, Michigan.
ANDREW GRAY I don’t think anything is wrong with it. I get 19-20 on a freeway. So I suppose its within normal range when running 8 cyl all the time. I just have lead foot when city driving 😬
Holy.. Why so low? Are you flooring it at every green light and youre on the line? I mean, I do that too. Full track mode and just vroom it amd Ill sit at 9 to 11 but not when Im regular driving.
My girlfriend and I both daily drive Corvettes...we started this channel to get some content out, with a bunch of great visuals and editing mixed in! Great video...nothing like good Corvette content. We are going to start producing some carbon parts for C5 and C6, solely for our subs so...if ya own one, check us out!
I have the 2019 Corvette ZR1 Coupe that I have bought for as a weekend car (Note: me and my wife’s car are both paid off). So the money that would be going to financing our daily drivers are going into the new car. And I would have to say it’s pretty fun to take out on the weekend and go to the track.
Just want to mention to people watching this and considering it I daily drove my c5 through a winter in South Dakota on winter tires it is possible as long as you drive responsibly
Don't drive my '82 everyday in Chicago. Its usually in garage and afraid of fiberglass cracking in the sub zero and not a smooth ride like yours. I either drive my Benz or Magnum daily. The thing that bugs me about driving my vette is everyone wanting to talk about it. Thats fine for awhile, then I just get sick and tired of people just coming up to talk about the car when I have things to go do. I have never driven it without someone coming up to me or talk to me about car at lights. My neighbor asked why I don't drive it more and I tell him, it like every guy wants to talk to me. A newer one like yours , I am sure attracts more women the my '82...mines a guy attracting car or the girls are like...my dad would love your car...lol..... When guys come up and ask what year, Ill act stupid and say its a 1954 and then they think I know nothing about cars and dont bother to try and keep talking !
My dad is fortunate enough to get a company vehicle... Because of this, we are thankfully able to keep our recently purchased C6 convertible warm and dry during Michigan winters.
You have the exact same model, year, and colour that I will have by the end of June 2025! I will also use it as daily driver, but only between late spring and early fall, because during the rest of the time the roads are full of snow and/ or sand. To what extent do you think installing a transparent film will protect the car from the stones? Also, if I will be looking for a car that is in good condition, but another requirement would be that it’s red. So, if I find a black 2016 corvette with not more than 30.000 km and every thing is fine, I can just wrap it in red. Would that be a good idea or not?
I have a C5 and a C7. The 5 is a modified manual trans 50th anniversary convertible. 450 hp at the rear tires is a blast to drive. Shutting down new Mustangs, Camaros and Mopars with a 21 yo vette never gets old. It is my daily ride. The c7 is a 2014 z51 Lime Rock Green automatic convertible. Unlike my C5, it is very civilized. I love both vettes for different reasons and uses. As a young man I had a C3 1969 convertible. I still appreciate the simplicity of the C3's. However the C5, 6 and 7 are my favorites. The progression of heritage in the body lines is so evident and gracefully beautiful in my opinion.
I finally got my '79 back on the road after 3 years of worrying about a bad rear bearing. I eventually had someone do the job for me since my I didn't want to invest in specialty tools. Gonna do some touring this year now that I'm retired (or retarded as my wife says).
Buy one ...Drive the shit out of it...keep it clean ..inside and out..take care of the engine....and most importantly....ENJOY LIFE AND ENJOY THE VETTE....LIFES SHORT , LIVE IT...DONT JUST EXIST
I DRIVE CARS TRANSPORT STYLE FOR A LOCAL CHEVY DEALER, HV DRIVEN BOUT ALL THE CORVETTES, THEY ARE INSANELY COMFORTABLE, I WAS TRULY IMPRESSED, OWNED A 79 VETTE, N THT IT WASNT THAT BAD EITHER, THIS NEW STUFF IS AB AMAZING! :)
