I have a naturnest all blacked out hard shell, I bought in January of this year and have some trips planned for next month and the rest of the year, can’t wait to use it soon!
in case nobody else did- i wanted to mention that a portable power solution like a Bluetti, Jackery or other brand would also be a reasonable option for powering accessories off-grid.
You have some great equipment and observations. While RTTs are convenient in certain ways, if you spend multiple days in one location and go out to explore every day, you do have to pack up your tent and related items/hookups (like heat or A/C) instead of just leaving it. As far as security from critters, squirrels, bears and everything in between can climb. So, you're stuck, which, depending on the animal, could be a very bad thing, especially since they can jump far better, faster and farther than you. Then there's taking a leak in the middle of the night...
Haha, RTT's definitely aren't perfect, but it works for my set up. Taking a leak is definitely not as much fun, but thanks to a pee bottle, that's solved pretty easily. But everybody has different preferences for sure!
I joined the 21st Century and recently bought a dual zone fridge. Ran a Coleman 40 quart 12v thermoelectric cooler for years, and by using low profile freeze bricks for transporting medicines I’d gotten from the local pharmacy and meal planning- anything that could be frozen pre-trip and thaw as time went on, everything else cooled in the fridge before packing. We’d run it during the day while traveling, and if we were base camping in the mornings and evenings we’d run it for a time before the outside air temp got over 80°. Never had an issue over 4-5 days keeping things cool. As prices have dropped and we could have more capacity while staying in the same basic footprint of our Coleman, figured why not. It will alleviate a little of the preplanning for longer trips and make spur of the moment trips freer.
Fletcher, quick question. I was looking through your videos, I see you have the rckilla lift, do you also have the rear breather mod and a skid plate for the transmission?
@@AllThingsOverlanding thanks for the reply. I was thinking about the rear breather but also heard some dealers denied warranty bc of it. I have 100k warranty
I sold my RTT. Used it once and my wife didn't care for having to climb up and down at night to pee. Our Gazelle opens and closes quicker anyway but I want to try and get a clam shell type for when I finish my trailer build for the kids
Gazelle's are great too. It definitely comes down to personal preference, but I just love how quick and easy it is to set up and tear down and I'm solo most of the time, so it works. Trailer for kids is a great idea.
Planning to go to an enclosed cap soon. But yes and no. The fridge slide won’t come out with the tailgate up (and it’s lockable). The tolerances are fairly tight so you’d have to work to get it out. It’s also hard wired so you’d have to get a replacement cord. I keep the majority of other stuff out unless I’m on a trip but the fridge is in their 24/7.
